You are the only one of all the reactors, that actually understood that Andor's friend, was the one that anchored the ship. Really like your commentary, it's hard to find reviewers that are observant enough to pick up small details on the spot and understand the value of letting the scene breath. Cassian has essentially drifting because all his life has been affected by circumstantial external factors, and it's just now, that he is starting to take control of his life. A show of decisions and unforeseen consequences for everyone, not just the main characters.

Agreed. Marie and I think that the test screenings they did on HOW to release these first three episodes showed that the audience (us), needed context on how the show would progress forward...but to get there (without losing viewers on Ep 1 and Ep...over two weeks, BEFORE the payoff Ep 3...they decided to show them back to back to back). Now, our expectations going forward are, setup, setup and then payoff. The musical score and sound design for this series is AMAZING...and this episode in particular was masterful. Loved how Maarva controlled the narrative, even though she was a prisoner in her own home. She got under the guard's skin...with her explaining was a reckoning is. Yep. Creepy, when there was NO sound at all. Luthen (Skellan Skarsgaard) wasn't there REALLY for the box, but he needed an operative that could further HIS plans against the Empire. He's got lots of things in motion, but he needs someone who knows HOW to do what MOST do not. To be BOLD enough to walk in like HE owns the place. That dialogue in the wharehouse was chilling...and powerful...and the tension kept building. Loved how he was already teaching him the STEPS on how to do things. Hopefully we'll get the next steps in succeeding episodes. Loved how Brasso had his friend's back, even though no one could tie him to what he did, he was part of the rebellion being build on Ferrix. Sad to lose Timm, but snitches get stitches. He jealousy got him killed. Just being honest. Also, this will probably help Bix become more proactive on her part in this growing rebellion. She doesn't seem the type to easily cower (though she may mourn the loss of someone she cared about), but it will fuel her anger to step up and be accounted for (within the Rebellion with a capital R). Looks like Cassian is a quick learner...for he was building his exit by using the big lumbering speeder as a decoy to allow Luthen and him to escape. Syril, standing in the street (not actually hearing what was going on...because he was in shock) reminded us of Saving Private Ryan (the beach scene with Tom Hank's character). This action that Syril has taken upon himself is either going to get him in DEEP trouble with his boss (which will propel him faster toward the Empire) OR his boss is going to have to try and save face and DOUBLE down with Syril for this fiasco. Wondering how this is going to play out. Yes, they should've killed Syril, but obviously we know that he is integral to the actual overall story...and killing him would neuter the show. You got to have a bad guy, though technically...he's just an over eager beaver. You understand him, but you also don't like them (especially in real life). A common comment when someone like this speaks up is, "Oh, just shut up!" He may be right, but for ALL the wrong reasons. Ugh. Since we know that there is a three episode structure to each arc, and we've seen Mon Mothma in the trailers...we are thinking there will be a small time jump...to another part of the galaxy...Coruscant...and the power struggle in the upper echelons. Still think we'll see Cassian, but his part will be the B narrative in this up coming arc (that's our thinking). Thank you for your reactions and thoughts. We got VERY emotional seeing Cassian being wisked away in TWO different time periods (playing side by side) against his will. We are ALL in on this grittier type of Star Wars. Bring it on. Talk to you, soon.
@Lannisen2 жыл бұрын
Just a small note on this great comment, but I wonder if the setup setup payoff structure is something they learned from Arcane? I can't remember seeing it before.
@grafffuller32652 жыл бұрын
@@Lannisen - Interesting. Well, I actually feel that Arcane did it better. There was MORE of an arc within each episode in Arcane than is being done in Andor (though we are loving both). Andor is being shot like they are four films per season. If we could, we'd love to watch them BINGE style, but for social media discourse and that water cooler moment at work (and online)...I really feel the week to week is the best model, BUT (and this is a BIG but), the way that they shot this show...if the current model moves forward to the second, third and fourth arc (setup, setup, payoff)...NOT sure. We're hoping that there is enough pacing to sustain the 6-7 days between viewings (like in Arcane). In Arcane, all new world, the characters are/were so dynamically rendered and revealed...we had NO idea of where they were going, but what a hellava ride it was (and hopefully continues in S2). The real test (for us, at least) is this second arc...which we'll watch Ep 4 at 3 AM tomorrow. How satisfied will we be with what they show us? Will we be frustrated/intrigued. We're thinking the episode length/pacing is a big deal. Hoping we are satisfied enough, but still hungry for more. That is our status as we approach each episode (for now). And for those who don't think there are Easter Eggs within those first three episodes were NOT paying attention. Lots of things to dig into and discuss and theorize about. Talk to you, later.

Seeing that it was because Syril disobeyed a direct order and decided to do things his way that led to the deaths of even more of his men (the people at the meeting place, the guy on the ship, the guys at the decoy speeder explosion... he probably lost half the men he came with), it was really his fault. And they all (because it's what the sergeant thought) came thinking this was on orders of the chief. But I expect this will be a case of him blaming it all on Cassian (all of it!), instead of putting at least some of the blame on himself. Because none of this would have happened if those 2 men weren't murdered... That's what he'll tell himself and he'll hold on to that real tight.

@funnylilgalreacts, 16:06 Timm wasn't turning Cassian in because he was a criminal, but because he thought Cassian was making moves on his woman. He knew how how Bix felt about him and that angered him. What Timm did wasn't about doing the right thing, but removing a threat, competition. Was Syril doing the right thing? He disobeyed his superior officer. Chief Hyne told him why he shouldn't investigate what had happened in an account that was fairly accurate to we viewers, but also because how it would bring trouble to everyone on that planet because they had something they weren't supposed to have, an expensive brothel--something Syril's boss likely isn't responsible for, but ignores because his own superiors want it there. I do agree that Syril wants justice for those killed, but he clearly sees himself as something different, better--he altered his uniform to set himself apart, and he see his ambition with his plan to investigate what happened the night before. 16:22 Why is Cassian a criminal though? Looking for his sister shouldn't be a crime. He's considered a criminal because two drunk off duty security officers got killed while trying to shake Cassian down =/ Did Syril run an autopsy? Did he read the toxicology report? Chief Hyne was already ahead of Syril! He knew the men had been drinking--he told Syril that they were drinking something they couldn't afford! I don't think Syril is looking for real justice. If he were, why wouldn't he investigate why two of his fellow officers were able to be clients at a brothel they shouldn't be able to afford? He's fine with his team breaking the rules, but not others. Chief Hyne at least wanted to hold his own men accountable for their misdeeds.

Never mind that they were drinking whatever it was (that was illegal)...and on duty, which the Chief Inspector pointed out, were all fireable offenses. Syril just breezes by that they were not good employees that were probably shaking down people to support whatever bad habits they had and not doing their duty.
@Ant-bm1qk2 жыл бұрын
@@artboymoy but that’s the thing though, it’s still a cover up which is corruption. The chief inspector or whatever his role is basically telling Syril that because these two men were in a brothel they weren’t supposed to be in, that’s the main reason for not investigating the murder because it will make their department look bad due to violations. However, the chief inspector says “I suspect” and then describes how he died. Followed by making the two men look like hero’s but not over the top. So really, the only thing the chief inspector knows for sure is that the two officers were some place they shouldn’t have been but the actual murder itself is an educated theory that just so happens to be correct. This is partially based on the fact the chief inspector has a history with the men involved so he would know what type of men they would be.

Syril is a butter bar - it's what the lowest rank of army officer is called because their rank insignia looks kind of like a bar of butter. They're also responsible for nearly every terrible idea ever. They're really impressed with their rank and love to make everyone salute them. They usually get an experienced sergeant to follow them around. It's the sergeant's job to keep the butter bar from doing anything too stupid and to advise them on the best course of action. That sergeant is just the right mix of competency and pomposity. They're also not military. They're essentially corporate police, so they aren't really interested in justice. Think of them as guards that have the contract for corporate properties in a third world country. They're the law in that they ensure the work keeps being done without disruption. Corporate thugs, essentially. So we have Syril the butter bar who ignores a direct order from his superior, a sergeant who likes to push the inexperienced Syril towards rash actions, and their uniformed thugs who think they're on a fully sanctioned mission. I'm surprised they even managed to find Maarva, let alone got so close to getting Cassian.

Hey, Angela! This series is starting off great! The three episodes need to be seen back-to-back-to-back. Loaded with grit, maturity, realism and character. Tony Gilroy, the screenwriter, has a Pulitzer and specializes in films about spycraft and statecraft which is what this show is all about. Cassian's bio states he dies at 26. Therefore, he's 21 now. In "Rogue One", he said he's been fighting since the age of six. Assuming he's 6 when we see him on Kenari, that puts the flashback at 20 BBY which is during the Clone Wars! I loved Chief Hynes' world-weary pragmatism and cynicism in his handling of the double murder. I don't see how you found Syril appealing in the slightest. He's NOT A CONSCIENTIOUS COP. He's presented as a detestable COMPANY STOOGE right from the start! He's a self-important, control-obsessed, tightly-wound budding fascist! He finds in Mosk a pugnacious bully who dresses up his lust for thuggery behind a badge. The perfect wingman to execute his overzealous commands. Syril has no life experience evinced by his empty, meaningless speech so he has no empathy for people who live a hardscrabble, hand-to-mouth existence. His ambitious play to get noticed for his diligence and doggedness blew up in his face and, rather than learning humility, he'll just be radicalized to exterminate undesirables who spoil his worldview. He's a cliche of pettiness and I loathe him. The Empire will adore him.

I don't think Cassian is 6 years old in the flashbacks. He looks older than that. Maybe 10 or 11 to me. I think the reference number of 6 years old is when the Empire or Republic killed nearly everyone on Kenari to cover up what they were doing with the materials they were mining for. All that were left were the children they managed to hide away from the massacre or "mining accident". That's why there's no adults and the kids have been on their own for 5 or 6 years. Ok so I feel like you missed something the empire said kenari was an imperial mining disaster and uninhabitable, but being a show about rebels it teaches us the empire isnt to be trusted and that Marva said it would be open season after they found one of theirs dead by locals, so therefore the empire killed everyone a d just classified it as a mining disaster, an excuse they use frequently to cover up insane loss of life at their hands, so if she had not taken him he would have been dead. At least thats what I think the show was trying to show us.

Why wouldn't luthen want syril dead? Hes a brownshirt for the empire, and a true believer at that. Also b2 kept pointing out that a republic frigate was on its way, he probably would have just been killed when they got there.

I'm hoping that the bigger story is just starting. With the promise of many seasons, I'm ok with the long set-up.

There’s only gonna be 2 seasons of 12 episodes each, so wouldn’t get your hopes up for “many” seasons, but it feels very properly paced so far

Cyril will have hell to pay from the chief inspector. He's likely to get fired and wind up joining the Imperial forces.

Timm turned Cassian in out of pure jealously and I cant see trying to justify his actions just cause Cassian was a 'wanted' man. While Cassian did kill the two guards in many regards they had it coming to them for trying to extort Cassian. In my opinion Timm got what he deserved.

Death is never justified. Ever. Defending oneself is extremely appropriate. Only life matters

"I don't know if that guy is short or if Stellan is really tall". Stellan Skarsgård and his sons are all around 6'4, so yes they are pretty tall. The average height of a man here in Sweden is 5'11 😀.
