At some points he says: "I'm glad he doesn't have his own show" That is a jab on how their respective careers took off. His support (the Japanese owner in this act); Frans van Dunsschoten first had he own show, but it wasn't working out, so they put in Andre to help him. That was such a success that they let Andre van Duin took over the show, and the show was now named after him. This naturally caused some friction between Andre and Frans but Frans soon recognized that working together in the preposed way would work out better for the both of them, and remained his sideskick ever since.

I was a little too young when this was popular. It held up pretty well! Van Duin started out at 17 I believe. He would do imitations and travelled around the Netherlands. He was picked up to do his own show. He was a staple of comedy from the 70s until the late 90s. He is an incredibly friendly kind-hearted man. A true cultural icon in the Netherlands!

For all non-Dutch speakers, there are several Japanese words which sound somewhat same as Dutch words (this is somewhat lost in the translation) and Andre van Duin is an expert in mishearing and turning it into a joke. He also often improvised and suddenly introduced a new joke. So everyone else had to be on their toes.

To bad the translation is not so good. Missing a joke, or doesn't translate Dutch language jokes but like the shoes (muiltjes) Its says don't slip in those in subs. But he says: oh bep wat een grote muil. The slippers shoes muiltjes and a grote muil is an insult. Muil is also a big mouth. So he says: oh Bep you have such a big mouth, and fred emmer was more anchorman than reporter Or the difference is 50 cents, yes 50 cents are 2 quarters but he says 2 quarters. Im willing to translate Andre van Duin for you, if someone teaches me how to make subtitles
