I dont like to take anything from Nina Simone. Her voice and her impact on music is undeniable. I literally have all her live and studio albums on wax. However, I do believe in musical credibility. I know that a lot of musicians used to cover others on their albums and their rendition of the song becomes the more famous one. Therefore, I will enlighten those who do not know the original artist behind the song itself in hopes that he gets recognition and credibility as well. His name was Jalacy Hawkins, also known by his stage name as Screamin Jay Hawkins. His version of the song is different and weird in a good way. I hope that people give it a listen and see where it came from first. Regardless of this, I am so overjoyed to see Nina Simone recognized in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Music would not have been the same without her.
