Jody Watley and Andre Cymone collaborated as songwriters on 4 albums including her breakthrough Grammy winning solo debut with Andre on production on many of the songs including singles - "Looking For A New Love" (released January 6, 1987) "Still A Thrill" "Some Kind Of Lover" "Real Love" "Everything" "Friends" I Want You" "Precious Love". The eponymous self-titled debut "JODY WATLEY" went multi-platinum around the world, spawned several must-chart Top Ten Hits and Number 1's, and nominations for American Music Awards, Soul Train and NAACP in fields dominated by King of Pop Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston in many instances.

Jodys debut album is a CLASSIC...so many gems. I like all of them...but Do It To Beat is a musical masterpiece and Andre Cymone is a one man band. Many don't know he is Princes CHILDHOOD friend who got into music around the same time. So obviously he is musically gifted.

Ms. Watley was sooooo trendsetting… in music, beauty AND fashion!!! While other entertainers were wearing hokey stage outfits, she was rocking Vivienne Westwood, Gaultier, Chanel and so many couture designers before designers used entertainers as “paid advertisements”. Further, my favorite Watley video is “Real Love” the EXTENDED VERSION. Pure fashion, cinematography, and everything rolled up into one. And it was directed by the same director who directed the Madonna’s music video for “Vogue”. Well “Real Love” came out first, and you can see that this video paved the way for so many other of this Director’s future music videos.

I’m more of a artist, singer-songwriter-performer actually. I was a dancer when I was 14-17. I continue to make a living as an artist, singer-songwriter, performer..producer as well. Dancing doesn’t pay my bills, didn’t send my kids to college or give me flexibility to pick and choose what I want to do - I also own my label and music publishing. Andre was speaking to my songwriting and my style influence on other female artists and in pop culture- he said nothing about dancing. Some try to put me in a box of limited expectation- I exceeded LONG ago. Much love! I’m blessed to be able to hire dancers!

Wrong. Not true- I cowrote every song with Andre over course of the 4 albums we collaborated on AND I wrote with and continue to. I conceptualized the songs with Andre (and all of my songs past present) came up with the lyrics AND melodies for your information. I also co-wrote “Don’t You Want Me” from my debut with legendary songwriter Franne Golde -Produced by Bernard Edwards. I have co-written or written 98 percent of ALL of my songs then AND NOW. So please don’t come on my channel with your stupidity, disrespectful nonsense and lies. Andre himself is speaking on our collaborations. It’s hard for small minds or narrow minded sexist minds to assume women don’t write. I’m in the Women’s Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as a Medal of Honor Reception from BMI a writers / publishers organization. I have also and continue to produce a lot of my music. In addition my songwriting credits go back to my Shalamar days where I co-wrote songs like Full of Fire, Playing to Win, Work It Out. Help Me and a few others..even Destiny’s Child re-record one of my compositions titled “16” to further how ignorant your comment is.
