Es un cantante melódico. Una opera verista como Andrea Chenier le queda muy grande . Su material no es tan hermoso y esa afectación que intenta parecer un "vuelco" de la voz suena amanerado . Horrible

DIOS MIO... Hasta cuando? El que piense que voces como la de Marcelo Alvarez pueden cantar este rol, NO SABEN DE OPERA. Dios mio... No es comparandolo con Del Monaco o con Corelli... Es que simplemente NO ES SU REPERTORIO. Esta y otras obras no se hicieron para tenores ligeros ni liricos, sino para tenores dramaticos, o liricos-spintos.

Non si arrabbi!!! ho scritto quel commento perché ho visto e ascoltato Alvarez in Luisa Miller al Regio di Parma...è stato meraviglioso! poi lo vedo su youtube a cantare l'Andrea Chenier--anche se è un fuoriclasse del canto non è detto che possa cantare qualsiasi opera--questa è un'opera per lirico-spinto e drammatico un lirico puro si "scassa" e basta..a meno che non si chiami (Gigli)-cordiali saluti

Lei dice:"Comunque non è male,c'è molto peggio".E una constatazione(amara)che rischia però di abbassare ancora di più il livello qualitativo.Certo che mancano i tenori adeguati,ma un tempo il ruolo era cantato da Pertile-Gigli-Martinelli-Merli-Masini.Gli ultimi veri Chenier sono stati Del Monaco e Corelli e poi voci"spinte"non ne ho più sentite(a parte Giacomini che però aveva alti e bassi).Quindi conviene rassegnarsi o sperare nel miracolo che spunti una voce di vero tenore"spinto".Cordialità

Está bien cantada, sólo que su voz no da la talla para el rol. Su voz no evoluciona será siempre un lírico, jamás spinto.

Obvio, él es lírico, no un spinto, ni un dramático...A pesar de eso su interpretación es buena. Corelli y del Monaco ya están muertos, al igual que muchos otros grandes. Tenemos a las estrellas modernas de la lírica pero son justamente tenores lírico e incluso lírico ligeros. Ya no quedan Spintos y mucho menos dramáticos

Apreciable Victoria, no sé de dónde saca semejante comentario venenoso. Marcelo Álvarez es uno de los mejores cantantes actuales. Tristemente poco reconocido y menos apreciado por no poseer el perfil simpático y populachero de Pavarotti, la estatura y trayectoria de Domingo. No sé cuánto sabe de ópera. ¿Será que aprendió escuchando a Nirvana, los Jonas Brothers o Justin Beiber? De todas formas le comento que esta ópera no fue necesariamente escrita para voces heróicas como la de Corelli ni voces dramáticas como la de Del Mónaco pero si Pavarotti, como tenor lírico ligero y Carreras, siendo lírico spint,o la cantaron exitosamente, ¿qué le impide a Álvarez que es spinto el cantarla también? Por último, si le molesta la interpretación, quizá deba buscar el vídeo de Del Mónaco en Japón y encontrarlo cantando esta aria con tres voces distintas. Me uno a otras personas que están comentando aquí para preguntarle: ¿Cuáles son sus razones para objetar la interpretación de Álvarez?

He has a good voice. Although he's really shouting a lot... and at some points you can actually see his body shaking all over the place and you hear a grinding in his voice. I think his acting could use a little feedback from a talented acting coach, as it was actually a little distracting because of how hammy it was. But there's no question he's a good talent, and audiences really do seem to like him a lot. So maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. :)

Very good vocal interpretation, more Italianate phrasing than Kaufmann et al. I would have preferred less histrionics and a more restrained stage attitude, which would afford him longer breath control. He is good without of course coming anywhere near Mario del Monaco, who still has no rival as Chenier. If he loses 10kg he will also have the "physique du role". Interesting-looking production and costumes.
