I am so sorry you had to deal with this cruel blow. I hope this does not sound trite, but I think participating in the arts, regardless of outcome beyond our control, is a victory all its own. I have yet to successfully publish a full-length novel in any wide-based manner, but sharing my work (excerpts, plus poetry and non-fiction) with individuals, on-line, and at readings, and enjoying great works of art to me is a wonderful way to live. You are go gracious and such a beautiful spirit your joy and happiness for this gentleman. VERY best wishes to you!

A wonderful meditation on one of the premier ballet dancers of his generation. His speed, power and control are almost preternatural. So glad his work has been documented so clearly. Many generations of dancers will watch this.

Gorgeous legs, gorgeous feet, gorgeous technique, gorgeous dancer and is as limber as a woman. He is so splendid my jaw has dropped. The most gorgeous cabrioles I have ever seen in my life. Every step he performs is on such a high technical level.

Really really beautiful. No narration needed . . . It's a shame my father was such a typical macho prick, because as a child I had real talent and ability for ballet. My mother enrolled me in ballet classes but my father opposed. After about a year I dropped out because he made me feel embarrassed. I remember once we went to see the national ballet and clapping effusively and looking over at my father giving me the evil eye and long face. That shut me down completely. I sometimes wonder what I might have become if I had had the support of my father....

I’m an old lady now, so I’m allowed to give you all some of life’s wisdom; It is impossible to dance and be depressed simultaneously, I’ve tried it for 40 years, and it is not possible. This is reason good enough to start dancing. No age, gender or size can prevent you from dancing, only you can, and it is not a good life if you don’t dance some steps every day. So allow yourself to dance, and you will discover a new world, new emotions and pure happiness. I have danced while being morbidly obese, while being pregnant, while being underweight, and while being in bed for years with severe disabilities. Rhythm knows no limits. I danced with my hands and fingers for five years while being linked to a bed. I danced at age 40: 50 and 60. My friend is 80 and is still dancing every day. Although I had plenty of reasons to be depressed, it is physiological impossible to be depressed if you dance. Do not EVER let someone tell you that you are too fat or too thin, or too old or have the wrong gender to dance. Do not let anyone tell you that you have two left legs and no rhythm, that only means you have your own rhythm and funny feet. There are hundreds of different styles of dance out there, meaning there are a style for everyone, or you can invent your own. Dancing together is more fun than dancing alone so consider doing it with someone else. Happy dancing!!

This is just what I needed to hear. Am 66 and returned to ballet after 40 years. Still in love with it but have put weight on since stopping smoking ( now addicted to chocolate instead of nicotine) and hate my body. However you are right in that dancing outweighs the depression. Will continue doing what I love - albeit a bit more slowly with my metal knee and ankle.

I agree with @almostthere2516! I started dancing at 6 months old, while sitting on my mother's lap, whenever an Elvis song played on the radio - I'm old too. I danced semiprofessionally, got my degrees in dance and dance history, just retired from teaching elementary school where I volunteered after school to lead dance clubs or create school variety shows for almost every one of my 28 years working - and it's still not enough. At 66 years old, I grin throughout my classes at the gym where I'm learning new styles of dance and having a blast! I hate exercise but when you get to dance to your favorite music, your body releases endorphins and you can't help but feel happier than you would have otherwise.
