Amazingly presented, and he was so young. Of course, he won the scholarship to the Royal Ballet Academy, where I've watched him ever since.

That makes me so emotional! It makes me want to get better at ballet. I think his drive and passion and precision is what I appreciate about him as a dancer. He is a true artist. It is nice to see him at a younger age.

sopranosd You've noticed he's a redhead (?) & without eye make-up, his eyes would essentially disappear. Such a cute boy who has matured into a really fine dancer (and easy to find in a stage) it's a great deal more than his coloring that makes Steven distinctive! A big fan!

Off to begin at the Royal Ballet School the next day with only his costumes in his suitcase. Did he win at Lausanne?

He sure did. I might add too, that he was the only competitor at the Lausanne who was there without his teacher. He was also the only Australian competitor. Steven's mum accompanied him on the lengthy flight from Australia as he was a minor, but otherwise he faced the daunting Lausanne competition completely on his own.

@@casteretpollux Yes, his teacher was Hilary Kaplan of Alegria Dance. The ABC network here in Australia recently broadcast a documentary on Steven's life titled Leap of Faith - he really has had a remarkable life. Not only did he have a very good teacher but a supportive family too. Even though his dad is a motorcross driver, which is a field about as far removed from ballet as you can get, he encouraged Steven in his dance career and even used to boast to the other drivers at the racetrack about how good Steven was and they ought to come watch him perform. It is like the polar opposite of the Billy Elliott story. Great to see.
