I like how he maintained eye contact with the audience member who had been on a silent retreat, and then just started talking to them directly like they were having a casual conversation and he wasn’t literally in the middle of an interview. Just thought that was kind of endearing

I have never been more at peace with myself and the world than during those days. There are no words to describe it. I’ve been on Jesuit silent retreats, actually called Spiritual Exercises, two times in my life, 3 days the first time and 8 days the second time and it’s an experience like no other. When you say “silent retreat” sounds like being bored and don’t talk for that time but they are called “spiritual exercises” for a reason. You are guided by a priest through several opportunities to look inside you and become a better human being. Those have been two of the most amazing experiences of my life! And actually you get to talk during the times you share with the rest of the participants what you’ve learned about yourself and about your relationship with God.

We had a task in school once where not allowed to communicate fit 24 hours before then having to write in it or something. & not just talking, but no tv, radio, reading news, eye contact - I mean like gestures as seen here - nothing. Though that almost impossible for teen-agers & so nearly nobody did it properly. We were given a week to do the first part, quite a few guys just picked a day they had work due or to avoid answering q's so other kids could back then up saying: oh no ma'am he can't talk today...
