This unfortunately can lead to relativism of religion and make Christianity, a sign of Truth (Jesus said I am the Truth) seem like something to be skeptical about

You should be skeptical of religion. Even if it's what you believe to be true, you should still question "Is it actually truth?" and if the teachings are actually something you want to live by. Not questioning any type of authority is how things like genocide happen.

@Moiraine_damodred I mean, i don't disagree with you, but i don't agree with you either. Doubt is a good thing because it causes people to truly dig down into their beliefs and figure out what their beliefs are and why they truly do believe it. It's great that Garfield views himself in this manner, but He is not talking about Christianity. He believes in the teachings of Jesus but not Who Jesus was. Christianity is a Theistic religion. Garfield is a Pantheist. 2 different things. It's great to question things, but if something has been questioned enough, one needs to hold to something otherwise, you'll fall for anything
@fragwagon

gingy23ben5 well said! I would go further and say that doubts can be useful, as long as it leads to more Trust. Every time the word faith is in the Bible, the Greek word means trust. You can never know perfectly, but every child can trust.

@@gabzdt Both can be true. Both are displayed in Hacksaw Ridge and Silence to be honest. Silence does a good job of what you commented on with pride and greed. To Rodrigues, his pride stopped him from apostatizing because to him he was Christ like and the simple act of stepping on a painting was too much to bear so people suffered (until they didn’t of course and he came to his senses, thanks to Liam Neeson, on putting pride away to save others like Jesus did) Idk that was just a rant but both certainty and pride, greed, etc start war

Xi Jinping Xi Jinping I'm not from USA and I've never lived there. I think everyone should have some amount of the right kind, philosophical, life knowledge, that would help us all, in living better lives, moraly.. We can't know everything, but there are things we should know, from young age, that would help us, to live our lives better or at least, give us an opportunity of doing that. Simple moral logical truths about life and our societies. Simple things like - i don't know - racism, for example. It's a product of misguidance and ignorance; a cultural "assumption" that grown trough time and still exists, cause no one really thinks about it logically. Ignorance is the problem, here. Racism for example, is simply illogical, stupid and it's mainly a synonym of blind hate/fear. There is many of this kind of stuff, that we should go trough life, simply knowing.

Ou8y2k2 Ps. Those are problems. Problems created by people, but by changing a way of thinking, a mentality, in that society, is to make other problems, being easier to be fixed, as well. By thinking bigger, we can eliminate problems, that many of us, are not even aware of, at this moment. I know it sounds idealistic, but it's not as much as it seems. It's doable..

Don't we see young boys playing with train sets, girls playing nurse, or other young children playing like a fireman? Why is spiritual life supposed to be for old people? We are not sure and certain we will reach old age, on the contrary, death happens at any moment.

Great conversation. Andrew is so deep, I should have noticed this virtue of him sooner. I think the reason why many people often say that Stephen is a terrible interviewer is because, I notice it many times, he tries to trigger conversations like this one with other people, but the interviewees either just do not get it, not interested, or too shy in direct communication as to disable them to converse deeply in a talk show (by this, I mean that not everyone is a good speaker, many people find it hard to find the right words when speaking and thus are better at writing).

I converted from Atheism to Roman Catholicism a few years back. I can totally relate to what he's saying...The faith is so deep it's unreal. I wasnt prepared and I'm still contemplating on the mysteries of Christ. I get to use my intellect in my faith and I love that aspect of it...glad I converted, truly.

There is a pseudo-Polytheist argument when you bring up the Catholic 'Saint culture', actually.. many Theologians have made the connection. Smart God talk from two guys who just had a sopping wet kiss in the previous segment!

Definitely. Actual conversations between people who have studied theology is way better than your generic Christian vs Capital A atheist argument on twitter.

That would be more like polytheism and anthropomorphism (the personification of (natural) concepts and phenomena) than pantheism, because pantheist see God (or Nature) in everything, in every particle of matter and in energy, not in people per se.

Yes, Andrew is amazing!!! His next movie will be Breathe. Based on the true story of Robin (Garfield), a handsome, brilliant and adventurous man whose life takes a dramatic turn when polio leaves him paralyzed. You can see Andrew Garfield in 99 homes, Never let me go, Boy A, The social Network, The red riding, Hacksaw Ridge, Silence etc.
