Polanski was not guilty of 'rape-rape', says Whoopi Goldberg 'We're a different kind of society, we see things differently, in Hollywood' actor says in defence of Roman Polanski Hollywood has rallied behind Roman Polanski after his arrest in Switzerland over the weekend for the rape of a 14 year old, with the actor Whoopi Goldberg suggesting that whatever he was guilty of it wasn't "rape-rape". As a speaker on The View chatshow on US television, she said: "I know it wasn't rape-rape. It was something else but I don't believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and when they let him out he was like, 'You know what, this guy's going to give me a hundred years in jail. I'm not staying.' So that's why he left." Later in the programme, she added: "We're a different kind of society in Hollywood, we see things differently ... would I want my 14-year-old having sex with somebody? Not necessarily, no." This was the response from many female and some male bloggers was swift and furious. On the Jezebel celebrity website , Lindsay wrote: "We learned about Whoopi's strange and fascinating moral universe, which includes the concept of "rape-rape." This is not the first time she has gone into bat for a Pedophile and she is still allowed to work. Then they turned left on 7th Ave, and I turned right.

@KrisBryant996 ай бұрын
@debbiedoodiedandi its when YOU'RE in their shoes it feels differently because that is what you're FORCED to become unconsciously and that's why Andrew did that documentary. It's so he can undo any wrongdoing that the Brat Pack had on himself and others because he wasn't the only one who hated the term or the group. Hence why someone did that article. It was to probably save everyone but Andrew and the others might very took it the wrong way being so young.

From my memory, starting with Timothy Hutton in "Ordinary People," then expanding to include the John Hughes movies and St. Elm's Fire, this was the first time mainstream Hollywood took seriously the state of mental health of young adults. The actors were main characters honestly telling stories dealing with death, parental abandonment, depression, loneliness, peer pressure, etc. Before it seems that role belonged to the supporting characters, the oddballs, the loners or it was covered in Indie films.

At 1:42 it is interesting that they say the journalist was trying to be rude or mean by naming them "the Brat pack" because in Art history the Impressionnism movement took the name from a critic who originally intended to make fun of the painters (we know now were geniuses !) after he saw "Impression, soleil levant" by Claude Monet, with this mockery comment with a pun : "Oh, impression, hmmm ? I was an Engineering Major at Georgia Tech at the time but my H.S. sweetheart was at George Town for Pre Law and I would make the 10 hour drive up to DC any chance I had and the clubs and the coeds and the male students could have been taken right out of the movie.

After watching the documentary, I don’t feel the writer was trying to be mean. He thought he was funny. And if you saw them carrying on at that restaurant as a group, like young people do, you probably would call them brats. But it didn’t make people dislike them. And I think they all had lucrative careers. Andrew brings up that it was insinuated that the actors didn’t pay their dues, but in documentary they admit they were all young and just beginning.
