Andrew Prine - "General Garnett" - with His Wife Heather Lowe

The late Andrew Prine's wife, actress/producer/director Heather Lowe, was kind enough to sit down with me for an open interview about her late husband, who played "General Garnett" in the movie "Gettysburg."
Andrew had a long and respectable career in theater, film and television spanning five decades.

Loved listening to Heather talk about Andrew and their life together. I got to meet them both in 2016 at the Memphis Film Festival, which was held in Tunica, Ms. They were delightful and obviously devoted to each other, so I was saddened when I heard about his death a couple of years ago. I stumbled upon this interview after a random picture of that meeting from 2016 appeared on my iPad. So glad to see Heather again.

What a delightful interview. I grew up in the 1970s, and Andrew was in just about every made-for-TV movie of that era. My impression was that he was the consummate character actor of the time. I mean, we're talking Clu Gulager / Mony Markham territory here. He was just in everything! He even had a guest spot on Star Trek: The Next Generation (episode: "Frame of Mind") about 6 months before Gettysburg was released. So, when I first saw Gettysburg and I saw his name pop-up on the opening credits, I thought, "Oh, wow, I've seen this guy on a lot of stuff." I actually recognized his name over Jeff Daniels at the time. 🤩

@@addressinggettysburg -Knowing the history of my former profession, I can tell you she is spot on about the DOJ during that time frame. The agency I worked for would play a major part in the Civil Rights Era, but it took time for the duties to evolve.

@@richsnyder8015 Never thought I'd hear the name Fred Shuttlesworth on AG!!! MLK said (paraphrase) "Fred set the table for us to come to dinner in Birmingham". It's interesting when she talks about the DOJ, during the same time the FBI had Stokely Carmicheal under surveillance while he led SNCC because they were afraid of what he was going to become. My point is how the government seemed to work at cross purposes and most likely still does. Great interview though!

So weird to be listening to the John Wayne discussion today after watching THE SEARCHERS last night. I SWEAR (while suffering through the viewing of that shockingly lame movie) I noticed how small his cowboy boots looked when walking out of a house (using that walk), as well as two scenes where he tosses or hands his 6-shooter to someone else and the Colt .45 suddenly looked like a .38 Special. 😮 Kudo's to Beau for the "Oh, that was his fake hand" for handshakes. Spit-take worthy comment!

Ok, that “shockingly lame” movie inspired a generation or two of filmmakers who, no doubt, entertained you and the rest of us for decades. But you’re right. It has its lame moments, as most 1950s movies do. The fake hand was funny.
