Modern day engineering/software geniuses who have shaped the field, like John Carmack, Jim Keller, Karpathy, Hotz, etc. have all talked about how much Musk is hands-on at work, dives deep, and knows his stuff, even describing him as "borderline superhuman." You can disagree with his politics and recent actions like I do, but the guy succeeded in his previous endeavours because he has high intellect. That said, his actions prove how there are no geniuses in public. I remember Sam Harris (of atheism fame with Christopher Hitchens and Dawkins) had a good talk about it on how there's lots of genius physicists, generals, and engineers. But none for politics, or basically public intellectualism or fields that intersect with lots of areas. Being a genius in one area doesnt translate to others. Musk is out of his element meddling in politics and the social media business.

9:01 Andrew is right. Whether advertisers are there or not, people are there...from public figures, corporate leaders, and the common man. The entire OpenAI fiasco happened on X. The public got to watch the happenings on X and were able to form their opinions from all the raw data. It is emerging as a digital representation of the real world, where anyone can share their opinion freely, make announcements, and have a pulse on the happenings around them. That stream of pure, raw, unfiltered data is the value of X. I think Elon must figure out a way to monetize access to that content. He definitely must push back on ads, and not let them run his company. The public does not care about ads. We care about the quality and trustworthiness of the content.

This keeps getting proven over and over, and is a big part of his point. Let's say we remove the business in politics. Biden and Trump both go away as a result. There would be a huge backlash with that. Neither are remotely near quality (the best candidate, in this instance) and neither are trustworthy. This is nearly an identical situation to that (while being tied intrinsically to it as well). There's also the issue of "truth" now being open to interpretation. Did anyone here watch the full interview??? It was a disaster. Not because of Elon, but because of Andrew Ross Sorkin. I have lost a lot of respect for him because of this interview. The first half of the interview was Andrew complaining to Musk about his tweet, because Andrew was obviously offended, that Musk repeatedly apologized for, then Andrew grilling him about "should a man like you be able to have this type of power and influence..." bla bla bla; says the guy who is in broadcasting, clawing for power and influence. I love what musk said about the advertisers, because he is doing what needs to be done... KEEPING FREE SPEECH!!! One of my favorite quotes from Musk: "Free speech is allowing someone you don't like to say things you don't like." So true, keep up the work Elon!
