Notice how Warwick refers to the Lancastrian King Henry VI as not entitled to the throne because his ancestor Henry IV was a usurper, but as soon as he hears of Edward IV's treachery towards him, he starts questioning why he (Warwick) put Henry VI from his "native right". Superb example of "reverse ferret".

Warwick didn't have a beard, few important men did at the time. They didn't really come into fashion in a big way until the Tudor era
@G1NZOU
@G1NZOU 4 жыл бұрын
That's not quite true. When King Henry VIII came into power he introduced a tax against them. Growing a beard or wearing a fake one, was a taxable offense in England during the Renaissance if you were not of a suitable social class, Elizabeth I maintained this beard tax. William the Conqueror, Richard the Lionheart, Edward II, The Black Prince, John of Gaunt, Richard II (sometimes) and Henry IV all have paintings depicting them with beards, although beards fell out of fashion a little with Henry V, who liked to be clean shaven to display his facial arrow wound, so his courtiers copied him. So it's more accurate to say beards were less in vogue in this period but they were before, then they came back into fashion later, as is the cycle of style. Back in the previous centuries it was fashionable for knights to have beards, they'd take pride in them.

Louis XI was more occupied by destroying the Burgundians than meddling in English politics. He certainly fanned the flames to feed the war of the roses. But when he got rid of the Burgundians, his daughter Anne regent of France got rid of the Yorks.

@@NapoleonAquila you confuse Anne regent of France with Margaret Queen of England. It is Anne who supported the Tudors to get rid of the York's. And it is exactly what happened. Richard III was killed and Henry Tudor a Lancaster , grand son of Catherine of Valois ( this is why he has the Fleur de lys in in blason) replaced him. Chess and mate.

Set in the Wars of the Roses involving the House of York fighting the House of Lancaster for the throne, in this scene, Warwick the Kingmaker (kneeling) who claims credit for putting Edward IV (of York) on the throne and ousting Henry VI (of Lancaster) from the throne, is aiming to arrange a marriage between the French King's sister and King Edward. Henry's queen Margaret who has sought refuge with the King of France is dismayed by the thought of an alliance between France and the Yorkist King Edward and speaks against it. However the King of France agrees to it. Then the King of France gets a message that Edward has already married someone else. Warwick is outraged at Edward for acting independently of him and making him look a fool in front of the King of France. He immediately offers to change sides (from York to Lancaster). His former deadly enemy, Queen Margaret is pleased to have his support and the King of France agrees to support them both in the bid to gain the throne back for Henry VI (House of Lancaster). It's a key turning point in the story for Warwick and leads up to more battles.

For a second I thought there was a historical black European queen that I somehow went my whole life without learning of... Lol
@sanaa94
@sanaa94 7 жыл бұрын
Well, in case you never heard of her, there was Charlotte of Mecklenburg who was the wife of King George III. She of a very mixed race European noble family. Indeed, throughout European history you can find many instances of "black" people who married into royal and noble families and so their decendants had mixed origins. Take Alessandro de' Medici, a mixed man born into a prominent Italian noble family and many surviving Italian noble families today trace their ancestry to him.

But France and the HRE were constantly at war which gave space for middle powers like England to take advantage and gain great prizes. The constant French follies in Italy weakened them just as it bankrupted poor old Charlie V. To call Shakespeare ‘Goebles’ is filthy even for a frog.

@izzieandavadanuggets9325
@izzieandavadanuggets9325 8 жыл бұрын
I actually think she is a good actress but she still takes away from the character because she is black. Margaret of Anjou was a stunning red head. Still she plays the part well although she is to much the focus at the end. Her ghost appears to Richard III the night before the battle of Bosworth but I do not recall her on the battle field in a ghostly spectre. On a historical side note I always believed it to be George Plantagenet that murdered Edward of Westminster and not Richard III but some sources claim it may have been Thomas Grey.
