Can't you hear it? Can't you hear him singing his heart out through this piece? Phrasing is not what happened here that made this performance so well executed. There are many recordings on youtube of this song that are played correctly and with good phrasing. The reason why this performance was so great is because he had something that he wanted his audience to feel with him by listening to his performance.

That was the correct note at 3:35. You need to listen to other versions of this piece to know that it is a vital part of the music. Andrew is incredible. We saw him in person with the Detroit Symphony orchestra. He played the Grieg Piano concerto in A minor. A fabulous, moving performance. I would recommend any see Andrew in concert if you get the chance!

Can you elaborate as to why that was a vital part? it sounds like a mistake.
@zacharyteske9206
@zacharyteske9206 5 жыл бұрын
TROLL he played it a little louder than most but the reason it’s important is that it creates a lot of tension in that chord. So when the next notes are played they sound even better. It’s the same with the 4rd chord of the song, it’s create tension which is how Debussy wanted it to sound
@MaximilianBenedicto
@MaximilianBenedicto 4 жыл бұрын
@@zacharyteske9206 Yea, i thought that was a mistake when i first listened to the piece but when you think about it, it does make a lot of sense to have that tension there.
@dylanedwards9001
@dylanedwards9001 4 жыл бұрын
@@yeon723 It's the 7 of the V7. It adds tension to the dominant chord. The way he plays it just accents the note because he plays it loudly and slightly delayed, so it may seem out of place at first, to some.

What is it about this piece that is so singular, spare, economical, and heart-rending at the same time? Could this, along with perhaps Beethovan's "Moonlight" Sonata, be the most beautiful "Spare" keyboard piece ever written? No, it is not complicated. This one does not have thrilling arpeggios, runs, complexities. Yet, in its' spareness and concise structure, it speaks volumes. So understated, so pure of line and tone, so quiet, yet deep.....Clair de Lune"....is beauty incarnate, all in a short piece that thrills everytime it is played like this by Oeyen.... Bravo..

***** economical: "using no more of something than is necessary". I think that's a fantastic way to describe this short yet incredibly deep piece of music. Taking the time to let everyone know you are unable to understand a word unless it's used in a context you've seen it in before, now that's hilarious.

But i guess its not possible for most people to do it properly, most people lack the talent and the motivation and the money to pay for good teachers.
