I'm in full support of Andrew through this new era of DGD and everyone needs to show some respect to this very talented human! 🖤Now that we're in the post-Tilian era (my favorite era thus far), I love the concept of seeing DGD as more of a "collective" than a traditional single-person fronted band. I agree with Andrew that I think that perspective shift will make this all easier to swallow for the fans tuned in! Like Andrew said in the podcast, if we think of this new era like a "Secret Band PLUS" then we'll probably be very happy 🤘🏼

DGD's always been Will, Matt, and Jon (Andrew said that just as I was typing this lol). As long as they're here, I'm here. Andrew is a wonderful addition and he has a rock solid mindset. Take that adversity and turn it into energy. Yeah we like to say it's all about the art, but at the end of the day art doesn't pay the bills. I'm glad Andrew stepped up and did what he felt like he needed to do for the good of the band. I hope he comes to enjoy being the lead vocalist more than he thought he would previously. Love this band

I honestly think this is the best case scenario in transition of vocals and I’m all in for it. When I heard new Eidola I thought man this would be crazy to hear on the DGD side of things.

" None of the other internet bullshit (Rape allegations) stalled us at all, from a professional standpoint. Like, People should know that. I'm not afraid to fucking say that. We had our most successful tours, our most successful numbers, AFTER all of that shit happened. That's the reality, its inarguable, it's hard data. That shit didn't stall us at all, the Rape allegations only made us bigger. "

nah. DGD as it exists is completely different. New age group coming to listen, new sociopolitical environment affecting the music, new vocalists/guitarists, and last but not least the band has been dragging out its existence waaaaaaaaaaaaaay past their golden era. DBM absolutely obliterates anything that came after. Its not even close. The music doesn't even sound similar enough to make a comparison lol. The muse came out for DBM. It will never happen like that again for this group. BUT im glad you guys enjoy the new stuff. Personally, first time i heard Eidola, funny enough, i thought "this sounds like generic DGD with a mediocre singer"

My issue with the 2 new songs is that Andrew's vocals are mixed too low, he sounds too good to be muffled out by the rest of the instrumentation!

I feel the same. To add, maybe they held back on production because of Tillian. He is an incredible vocalist and very hard shoes to fill. However, Andrew is the guy. These new songs sound amazing. Andrew kinda sounds like Tillian, Kurt and Jonny all combined. I'll miss Tillian, but it's refreshing to hear something new. Can't quit for upcoming DGD!

Andrews parts in songs like Nothing Shameful and No Man's Cringe are some of my favorite vocals in any music I listen to. In my opinion he's going to fill the "role" perfectly fine and I'm looking forward to having him on cleans more often. Speed Demon and Straight from the Heart are great, his hooks are catchy. I'd love to hear a Jackpot Juicer length album with this style of music. He seems to have an amazing attitude and it makes me appreciate the music even more. Hope they come to Canada :)

I love how he puts it as room for collaborations! There doesnt have to be one position or member locked in permanently! Also I LOVE how he says Jon is the front man BECAUSE HE IS!! He has been in it and overshadowed by the audience this whole time! I also like how Will Jon and Matt have been pulling the strings the whole time. They are the backbone of this band

First off, I love Andrew's voice, I. Excited to see / hear what's next for these guys, doesn't matter who's lead they are always killing it. Also, I was at swanfest right after Tim died, and it was such a heartbreaking yet beautiful experience and anyone who is a fan knew what had just happened and didnt judge the sound thay night, we were just happy they were playing and we sung extra hard to help when tillian was choked up and couldn't sing. It was the most moving and memorable concert ill probably ever experience. Mad respect for those guys

Andrew Wells is the best thing to happen to DGD in a long time. I have been a fan since 2007 and I have been here through Jonny, Kurt, back to Jonny, and then to Tilian... and I am so excited for the future of this band. Andrew is so right that the core of DGD has always been Jon, Matt, and Will. I had the pleasure of seeing Eidola over the weekend and I met Andrew and he was an absolute class act. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does and it's so inspiring to me.

DGD has felt like different flavors ever since Kurt took up the mic. The guitars, drum work and screams are so specific to them that anything else just changes it but not enough to change the band from being DGD. It's good. Speed Demon has been bumping in my brain for three days now. The band will go forward and holy crap does it have a legacy.

Fantastic interview, so glad I listened to this. I’m an even bigger fan of Andrew after hearing this. 1. opinions are like assholes everyone’s got one. The band will continue to do their thing as they always did and continue to set a certain standard because in my eyes there’s no other band like them. 2. The idea of Jon Mess as the front man and continue rotating vocalist for the diversity of music, insanely incredible idea. Absolutely love it. 3. As an original listener from when they first appeared on Purevolume, myself, and close friends included immediately think of Johnny Craig when you say the name Dance Gavin Dance. I don’t think it’s a toxic viewpoint, but if everyone can get along and put the past behind them, we need to get Johnny back on some songs. Johnny, Andrew and Jon together will absolutely melt faces!!

IMO I’ve always loved the contrast between the vocals. Heaven and hell in a good way. I feel like the new songs did not showcase that. Were Andrew’s vocals purposely drowned out because it’s interim? DGD fans are no strangers to having rotating “clean” vocals. Hope the band makes a decisive decision. Love the nitpicking nerds making an appearance too haha

I personally don't want anyone else to take the role of clean vocals other than Andrew. I know he has mentioned about not wanting to give up having Eidola be his main focus, but I think he is the perfect person to fill that spot. I am also WAY okay with Jon taking more of a lead role as his vocals have been my favorite part since I got into them with Mothership.

I always enjoy listening to Andrew, he's extremely insightful and on point! His take on the hate/negative comments he got after filling in for Tillian's temporary departure was very eye-opening as well, I thought that it was subpar when I listened to some youtube clips of them performing live. Now, given the backstory of his personal struggles during that time, I understand 100% how challenging that was for him. I'm all for the new direction of DGD and I think it will be amazing (especially Speed Demon is great!). Many of my favorite DGD songs are songs that feature Andrew, and the latest Eidola album is just slapping 🤘

It's okay if it was said more in a slogan way or something, but if that's what he really feels I think it's not really right. I personally didn't really like two new DGD songs, cause they're too Eidola-ish for me (I like Eidola by the way) and it doesn't really work for me, but I respect the band especially taking into consideration all the Andrew's words about trying to make it work, and because of that I don't think like "fuck that band", sooo yeah. Well he did say something like they didn't agree on what songs to play live so clearly there were at least some creative differences. I think tilian really enjoyed the poppier side of his music. But the only ones who really know why they needed to split is the band themselves, I'm sure they had their reasons. You said it yourself, why change unless it was necessary? In their eyes it must have been necessary especially if they see it as their way to make a living. They wouldn't take that risk for no reason

When noone wants to tour with your band because your lead vocalist has valid sexual assault allegations that even the heroin addicted scammer you had as a first singer never had, you likely realize adjustments HAVE to be made whether you want to or not.

Because at a certain point, as you grow you have different ideas where that next direction is. Tilian is very obviously leaning more and more into the groove and pop. After increasingly having that flavor over several albums and that span nearly a decade and hitting its peak with Afterburner and especially Jackpot Juicer. it wouldn't surprise me that Will, Jon and Matt (as well as Andrew though more so on the last two albums) likely have tons of other material that didn't fit that bill for groove and pop. So they say "Tilian, we have had enough of a groove era, let's lean away from that to a new direction" and Tilian thinks "But that's where I want to go". These two directions become irreconcilable and they just all say "we have very different ideas, Tilian, DGD is going the new direction and you can pursue the groove and pop but it won't be with us because the greater majority here agree". Other personal issues can play into it but I do believe this is the core of the issue with the other interpersonal stuff being added pressure to decision.

It's a good interview and Andrew is certainly one of the more forward-facing members of the band in that he goes on podcasts regularly and gives good insight. That said, I wish they would just address why Tillian left/was asked to leave/chose to leave or whatever the mechanism for his departure was. It's hard to just let it go when Andrew himself in this interview says they just had their most successful album and tour EVER, even with what occurred with Tillian and the domestic violence allegation. So what changed? What happened? Why on a random April Monday poof Tillian is gone?

seriously and tilian is a part of the reason this was their most successful album\tour, all these fans and even the band members thinking they're better off without tilian are mistaken. Tilian fit with this band soooo well i dont even think people understand.

@@flexxn6770 I agree on all. I think it was financial. Andrew made a point to go straight into the money and this is a business at the beginning. My bet is Tillian wanted more money after that last album and/or he was getting too big for the band/core 3 members. If it was the domestic abuse thing, they would have fired him two years ago. If it was because he got married they would kick Will out too since he has a baby on the way. So that's why I think it's financially driven. They'll rotate singers and become one of those "DGD feat. insert singer name" on a lot of their songs going forward and have core songs that Andrew can sing on tour.

The triplet of Jackpot juicer was so good, the universe could not let it have a sequel. I sincerely wish to hear Strawberry swisher pt.4 by Andrew 🍓 even more inspiring to hear Tree city Sessions 3 ❤

One of the things that really sets DGD apart is the next level singers. Not that Andrew isn't great he just isn't on the same level as past leads. Bring Jonny back! =)

They should've gotten a lady singer. Hear me out. Tilian's range would fit easier in her vocal register (ensuring the continuation of the Tilian Era songs) while allowing them to create unique stuff in the future.
