It is cheaper to convince people of a short idea like "I'm not crazy like my opponent" (basically the platform that Biden ran on) than to try to convince someone of a more complex argument like, "smart computers that don't exist yet are coming for your job in a few years". (Back when ChatGPT was not widespread knowledge.) Conveying a longer message costs more campaign dollars.

So sad more people didn't give Andrew Yang the attention he deserved during his run. One of the most down to earth, knowledgeable, and fair people to ever run. We had a huge opportunity to set some regulations on AI in place but people didn't think it would come this fast. If we don't start soon it will be so far gone we will have missed the chance to keep it in check. Best of luck Andrew. I'm still hoping your voice will make a difference.

There's stuff happening with regulations and people across industries fighting for it. I'm glad Yang has been talking about AI for a while but it's hard to write regulations before a new technology or new changes in society comes to pass. Courts are very reluctant to speculate for the future as there might be unintended consequences. We haven't missed the opportunity. The opportunity is now.

In the words of Donald Trump, "The media treats me so unfair" - In Yang's case, it is true, they set double standards for Yang and demonize him for things that they wouldn't do to his opponents. They cut his air time and limit his exposure to the public as well. In the presidential debates, he was given a few minutes to answer questions and debate while the other more popular candidates were given way more time, like Biden were given what seems like forever to barely answer anything. Even in the NYC mayoral election, Yang was vilified by progressives because of his political views of Israel while his opponents who share the same views got no heat for it at all.

Another bad idea with good intent by a man who has probably never read Adam Smith's Wealth of Nation or Milton Friedman's Freedom and & Capitalism. When you give everyone $1000, it basically raises the prices of things in the market, because people are an additional $1000 flush with cash. This is simple economics. In other words, the $1000 becomes the new zero. As an example, the covid era "stimulus" (which Yang himself mentions were basically tax credits and child care paychecks etc) was one of the factors in the inflation that soon followed. Also, there is a moral issue - the government will be coercing the high/middle income earners to chip in for the Basic Universal Income for the others who do not have income or have low incomes. What gives the government the moral right to force a benevolence for the low income group out of the rest of the citizens, with the tax collector's gun to their heads? I am sure this idea is well loved by all the moochers & looters in the crowd (which is the unfortunately majority of you Americans who do not have *any* knowledge of basic economics, history or civics). There is no such thing as a free lunch people! Basic Universal Income is merely wealth redistribution not wealth generation.

I would vote for this guy. Getting sick and tired of politicians being vague, beating around the bush, afraid of being wrong, being out of touch with the average American, and not laying out any vision or solution to problems we face everyday. It seems Yang was right about this 4th "industrial" revolution and our quality of living has gotten worse year after year with tech advances eliminating most entry to mid level jobs. Personally, I'm not even considering marriage or kids knowing the way things are now and where things are headed. I initially had a knee jerk reaction with UBI and was against it but I am totally for it after doing research on how it works to boost the economy from the bottom up.

UBI can be the next "land grants" that make generational wealth. Hopefully it won't be a racist handout like when colonists ordered a genocide against the native people. The Veterans Administration has been proven to show racial bias in benefits awards ( white / Caucasians received more overall, and sooner, compared to other races) . The additional danger is becoming "king maker" of political allies; help the friends of friends who will donate or help run political campaign events.

However, I think most people would agree that a teacher is very much a necessary profession in today’s world. Any necessary profession out to at least merit enough pay that people aren’t discouraged from taking that job due to the fact that they’ll likely need a second job to make ends meet. Shops will need to raise salaries to attract staff back to work. Shops therefore raise prices. End result: consumer is no better off - but now it's dependent on the government for $1000 extra each month just to buy the same quality of life that they had before UBI. This is a big problem, because when you don't have a problem, you don't need to look for a solution either... And the real tragedy is that to a lot of US problems, the solutions are well known and tried, if they could just get over the "humiliation" of learning from another country.... gasp! *USA is unique in that almost all of their problems are entirely self inflicted, most countries have problems they **_can't_** solve, USA has problems it **_won't_** solve.*

Thanks Mr Yang! I think a 4 day work week is necessary for health. To have one day for chores, one for relaxation or recreation, and one for food prep. The latter could lessen the reliance on fast junk food which causes health problems. Community centers could have cooking classes geared to educating on healthier food options and how to’s..I also agree on someone’s comment about education finances/money management in public schools. Universal income would be great, but considering wealthy corporations are good at dodging taxes..putting money overseas, how to pay for this? I do trust Mr. Yangs creative ideas and ability to work with others on this though.I agree the structure of most social programs can be an oppressive trap, and hard to navigate, possibly at least some of those jobs can be transferred to administrating the Universal income if that became a reality. Hopefully we will not hear the last of him, and I like that he is not polarizing- I’m tired of sound bites and cliche’s from politicians pitting one against another..Can’t wait to hear more from him.

I am sure this idea is well loved by all the moochers & looters in the crowd (which is the unfortunately majority of you Americans who do not have any knowledge of basic economics, history or civics). There is no such thing as a free lunch people! Basic Universal Income is merely wealth redistribution not wealth generation.

I agree, no one working should be poor. Andrew Yang has a really good idea, and I think covid proved it's feasible and it's good for the country. Money going directly to people is better than going through programs intended for people not to qualify. A big problem is corporate America will not only attack workers' wages, but they will also indiscriminately increase prices for goods, products and services, to scoop up the "extra money" to increase their already record profits. I think that too, was proven by the covid era.

But in reality if they accomplish even 25% of what they promised us we're lucky. Whether it's due to circumstances out of their control (not enough votes in the House\Senate or they were blowing smoke just to get elected, they won't deliver on the majority of their campaign talking points of hot air.

True. The reason why wages at the lower end have stayed low is because Democrats have been using nonstop immigration year after year, high taxes, over regulation and the phony global warming scam to put slack in the labor market and drive down wages at the bottom and increase housing prices at the same time. To the point tens of millions of Americans don't have any money left over at the end of the month. Which gives all the power to employers. And its the lack of power in the hands of employees that allows the excesses at the top, causing the wealth gap. Minimum wage makes the incomes zero for people that have low skills or bad work records. Raising the minimum wage is sadistic. Compare that with the conservative model of using low taxes, less immigration, and less regulation to tighten up the labor market. Which raises wages, allows mobility, allows for advancement, allows people with lousy work records or low skills to get decent jobs, and gives people dignity. If liberals were capable of empathy and compassion and cared about the little guy, they would be Kennedy/Reagan conservatives. "The ever expanding power of the federal government, the absorption of many of the functions that states and cities once considered to be responsibilities of their own, must now be a source of concern to all those who believe as did the great patriot, Henry Grattan that: “Control over local affairs is the essence of liberty.” Commencement Address, University of Notre Dame, January 29, 1950.....John F.Kennedy "You can’t be for big government, big taxes and big bureaucracy and still be for the little guy.”.......Ronald Reagan

The real cost of a new 1500 square foot 3-2-2 is one man year of labor to build it; one man year of labor to buy the materials; plus the land cost and building fees. At an average annual wage of $50,000 that means the house should cost $100,000 plus the land cost. That's it. The rest is builder price gouging. And that gouging is very real right now.

Mr Yang. When the government started requiring employers to sign on people full time after 90 days of employment, businesses responded by laying workers off at 89 days. The laborers responded to this with their own actions. They started looking for other companies to work for, but found all the businesses were doing that. So some workers looked for work just doing small jobs. Other workers just checked out entirely. They reasoned that if they werent important enough to hire, they might as well stay home and keep the kids and let the wife work. In short, if the American worker is not important to these businesses after brow beating them to discourage the worker from asking for a wage increase, then the men will let the business sector discover the truth about the imported workers. How they send 50% to 80% of their income overseas. And just so you will know, they have been doing this for decades. If the employers dont care for the American worker, eventually someone else will when those native born Americans decide to move overseas.

HUGE FAN. I'm a small retail business owner. The online businesses are killing the retail shops and we're barely making ends meet. If the hourly minimum wage gets raised, it's only the small business owners that will get hurt. If UBI gets implemented, it will help not only my workers, it will also help the homeless who dont have jobs. It will dramatically uplift the economy from the ground up. People having extra money will help the small businesses as well since people will shop more. I still remember when people got their stimulus checks, it definitely helped my business.

Minimum wage increases only hurt small business in the near term. You'd I'm sure rather start a business in a place that has higher income levels. The issue is the time frame, does cash flow increase in the localities as wages increase the answer is yes usually but It takes too long if the wage growth is to fast for the new money to circulate
@kchun5515

@@contemplativeidiot1 that is why UBI is a better solution. near future or later, UBI is a better solution. People who get paid minimum wage usually have trouble with not just purchasing producs but also with rents and utilities. raising the hourly wage will barely help the small businesses in the later future, because it doesnt really give more "buying power." just barely. plus with income tax and such, theyll still fall victim to taxation n still be under financial struggle. UBI is a way better solution for ALL because it give people "buying power," boosts up the economy in a dramatic fashion, even to the homeless. that's all I was saying.
