Sorry but this man is a corporatist plutocrat. His UBI plan is the final takeover. Any idiot knows that the poor spend and the rich save. Spending creates inflation. Inflation helps those who have risk assets and eats away at those that dont. The poor doesnt have risk assets... the rich do... And the most inflation will come in necessities. Seriously this is econ 101. need proof.. What has the Fed done for 10 years. QE1,2,3 Operation Twist ZIRP etc.... to create inflation and its not a coincidence that the wealth divide exploded over the last 10 years. This is the same thing, dont be so naive. And if you are going to argue this point than you need provide just one instance in all of history that shows inflation helps the poor more than it does the rich and also proof that spending via adding more liquidity into the system is deflationary. Other than the UBI, the explanation he gave on the human-centered capitalism is what gets me most excited. I don't think a lot of people understand how important this idea is. Imagine this: When he becomes president, he gets us these new sets of measurements and goals every year and shows us the numbers, our debates and ways of problem solving will be much more coherent , productive and efficient. And not just that, this will literally be his legacy as a president and I think that's the biggest contribution any president can give: that they can still affect American lives even when they have left office. Like can you imagine the next president coming up to the state of the union and saying they want to forgo measuring mental health of the American people? that we shouldn't care about life expectancy anymore? Once Yang becomes president I can literally see him setting a legacy where upcoming presidents have to do things based on research, numbers, evidence and not just simple populist rhetoric.

That means tenants have mobility to leave whenever they want, security deposit be damned. Because of that, the Freedom Dividend would give tenants MORE negotiating power, not less. The landlords will figure that out very quick, and try to keep the rent reasonable. If they don't, there's probably another perfectly good reason they insist on raising it... like trying to raise funds to repair/maintain the structure. In that case, they weren't charging enough rent and well within their rights to raise it. On the plus side, that perfectly good reason would be putting someone to work to repair the building.
@neverdown2225 жыл бұрын
Anya Ehrim I disagree, the tenant gets $1000 so does the landlord. The tenant will have added competition from the market. Roomates will separate and hit the market. Over 3 million Americans turn 18 each year, 750,000 will gain US citizenship each year year. Birthrate outpaces death rate 3-2. Land is becoming scarce. Their is no negogiating with landlords because they can get another tenant, who also has the same $1000. With $1000 covering most their mortgage in the meantime they can play the waiting game longer. This may be oversimplification but changing the amount from $200 to $300 when you pass "GO" will change the dynamics quickly by accelerating the end outcome in Monopoly. Do Section 8 people have negogiating power with their rent voucher? Most landlords will avoid them like a plague, only the lowest quality of housing is rented out to these tenants. It will serve as a disadvantage not an advantage for the renters. Fortunately I am on the receiving end of the housing market. I can not believe the average American believes they can beat the landlord by renting. In Andrew Yangs book, he avoids the housing inflation problem alltogether. He only addresses Medicare and college. He will tiptoe around the housing issue and inflation and never answer it directly or gives the generic response of, UBI won't fix all problems. Housing inflation will offset most of the gains from UBI and place people back at square one!

Yang is right that we don't produce most of the CO2 anymore, but one thing he misses about the GND is that the USA can't pressure or influence the rest of the world unless we are the leader in fighting climate change. Being out of the Paris agreement means we are taking no leadership.

@John Lambie There's a lot of research being done on lots of different aspects of green tech. Some of it is a long way from being very profitable to even dive into. The government can do things there that industry can't, like through DARPA or university research funding. Basic research is a pretty important government function, because it rarely has a direct commercial application, but it can go on to fuel millions of them.

$1000 bucks a month is a buffer for humanity against the brutality of the economic machine. There are obvious benefits to the economic machine (efficiency, spreading out risk, etc...) but humanity has been increasingly marginalized by this system. That trend will only continue. Yang is the only candidate with a real solution to this. It's not a complete solution, but it would get us going in a much better direction, and quickly.

And Rew I am an investor that owns a bunch of rental properties. Rent rises yearly. In my world people complain about rent increases not rent decreases. Rent increases is a Myth because a mediocre comedian/ ufc fighter/ former host of a show were people ate cow dicks and worms told you so. Wow I will continue investing in properties now and make a killing off of their sales when UBI passes. The only thing I support is the american dollar and soon Andrew Zangs face will be on the $1000 bill because it will be the new $100. Andrew Zyang 2020 & 2024!

And Rew you are in for a rude awakening when your "Bigshot" landlord laughs his way to the bank. Land is a limited, you can't build more of them. I am addressing a serious concern, and you would rather make fun of me than offer a valid augument and perspective.
@neverdown2225 жыл бұрын
And Rew I am curious to know the sentiment and thinking of people who are voting for Andrew Yang. I only see selfish short sightedness of people only considering the immediate benefits of $1000 but not the long term economics failings of this policy. The only policy that should have passed that would have benefited folks was 40 Acres and a mule that would have greatly enriched black peoples live for generations. The government new damn well that policy would have elevated that black folks to exponential wealth so they killed it quick. So while we are at it with UBI lets do reparations for black folks who were enslaved by white privelaged people for hundreds of years next, I suggest after UBI the goverment should charged a White Privelage Tax on white people and using that money to pay reparations to black folks for suffering slavery for hundreds of years!
