Simply amazing! Andrew IMHO is the best contemporary classical guitar composer and performer.

Really awesome dude, I met him at a college here locally last night as well! My friend got to play a song for him. Even though this song is a tribute to bob marley... it does remind me of pirates too!
@ChrisW2134115 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with you. Andrew York doesnt get enough recognition as he should. No disregard to andy, antoine, or don ross...they are brilliant guitarists and make amazing music but York is way more in depth and deserves the same amount possibly more recognition than todays acoustic guitar icons
@thatswhatshesaidtome15 жыл бұрын
This guy, is very underrated, especially when everyone talks about andy mckee and antoine dufour, despite they can play their own style flawlessly. This stuff is way more in-depth to me atleast.

I still have this on VHS somewhere. The original studio recording is on the cd 'Into Dark'. The title is a play on a reggae beat (Bob Marley) and then the 'Scrooge ghost' idea/theme. It gives a whole new meaning to the idea of a hauntingly groovy tune.

@thatswhatshesaidtome Haha another add on to your point. Even if not all of the biggest guitar players in the world play Yorks pieces, they certainly still teach them to their students. This is important music!

Wonderful. I would love to hear this played by a Reggae band or even an orchestral arrangement. It sounds like a perfect song for a movie soundtrack (possibly minus some of the adornments and flourishes).

@thatswhatshesaidtome In my opinion, he's not underrated, he comes from another generation (I didn't write "belong"). I may be wrong, but what brought Andy and Antoine to "our" attention was KZbin. I first discovered them thanks to it anyway, and I went deeper: and I found Andrew York. If I hadn't seen Andy's videos, I would have never discovered Andrew's marvelous pieces.

@alpha.gamma.dingdong12 жыл бұрын
The difference is that York is ten times the composer that Dufour and McKee are (especially McKee). This song actually sounds like something meaningful, not just 3 minutes of impressive guitar.
@lprath446317 жыл бұрын
Actually, I think that the title has something to do with a character from a Christmas Carol. I don't know. According to my guitar instructor, Andy york can be a bit enigmatic when it comes to his titles. My instructor's guitar orchestra commissioned Ask The Sphinx and my instructor was unable to get the meaning of the title out of him. Haha

I think Andrew is the Chopin of classical guitar: the perfect marriage between technique and deep musical expression. I think that guitarists like Mckee, Dufour, etc. are truly amazing but they are below Andrew because of this: their music "weights" less than the technique; it is too determined by the "physics" of the guitar. Andrew´s music is thought for the guitar (like Chopin´s was for piano) but still would have a lot of entity and depht when performed in another instrument or arrange.
@Auxon16 жыл бұрын
Umm, classical. That's a classical guitar. However, all classical guitar is fingerstyle ... unless you play it with a pick Iike I did when I was a kid ... and it pissed off my dad because I was wrecking it.
