Believe it or not, Frank's family lived over the road from us in Aranda, Canberra, Australia. His bro' Nunzio was in my class at school; we were mates. I still remember with fondness and sheer bloody amazement, Nunz saying come over and have a listen to what Frank's doing now. He was 6 years old and played the Dead's 'Dark Star' with perfection. No surprises he's a global guitar alien; and god bless him that he nurtured the incredible gift he was born with.

I have a book with various arpeggio licks from monster players. Gambale's section is one of the most eye-opening. So much leading with upstrokes and sweeping with an upward pick slant, totally alien to me but it's getting more fluid. To me having that facility of leading with downstrokes/DWPS and comfortably switching to UWPS feels similar in concept to comfortably switching between drum patterns leading with the right or left hand.

It’s been about 34 years since I first heard Frank’s solo to Please Don’t Feel Bad on the Vital Information, and I’m so close to being able to play it all the way through. Quietness and pauses are just as important as quick notes.
