As a composer and classical guitarist, I doubt that it was by his understanding of the human mind that he wrote this piece. It's more likely that he was in a peaceful state of mind (for me this is often before I go to sleep at night) and playing around on guitar when he found something interesting. Writing music is a lot like cooking in that you find an ingredient that appeals to you, and then add complementary ingredients by taste until you're satisfied.
