Hey, Andrew. I know you always want things done correctly. The voltage at the alternator should be at or a couple tenths + or - of 14 volts. Your voltage to the battery with the engine running should be within .5 volts of the alternator reading. If not, you have connection/wire problems. No way that amount of voltage drop is normal or acceptable. Dirty/corroded electrical connections, especially at the ground points will cause endless headaches. I recommend ScannerDanner's channel. He has good videos on dropped voltages due to corroded connections.
@kinecty111
@kinecty111 Жыл бұрын
I replace lots of charge wires for this exact reason. Sometimes they get water runs down inside the insulation and rots a small spot deep inside the wire you can't see. Easiest way to check is to throw one jumper cable from the alternator to the battery and recheck your voltage. If it comes up to the alternator voltage you know that wire is bad. If you get good with the electrical tools it gets easier. With the engine running measure voltage between the alternator positive stud and the battery positive stud. You will measure the amount of voltage drop aka current loss in that wire. Shouldn't be more than .4v absolute maximum with all the lights and accessories on.
@Watchyn_Yarwood
@Watchyn_Yarwood Жыл бұрын
@@kinecty111 Great point on the corrosion internal to the insulation. Corrosion = resistance. Resistance where it's not supposed to be = bad.

Andrew makes it look easy and I got to say I have even more respect for him now. Just being able to load and unload these things is an achievement. For the gas drip out the overflow line, check that the tiny spring loaded plunger that is on one end of the needle valve. Make sure that it's still there and that it works properly ----- The float shuts off the flow from the tank when the float rises with the bowl level and moves the rubber end of the needle into it's seat...if the the tiny spring doesn't return the plunger to full extension or if it's missing, bent or is stuck while depressed in the needle it will allow the bowl level to rise too far, thus the excess gas flows out the overflow line.

It would be awesome to have another video maybe you and the dogs or jet skiing or anything. You spoiled us with several videos a week. Not blaming you. You’re just very interesting and it takes our minds off of this crazy world we’re living in.

Some voltage drop is to be expected if there's a large current draw. You could reduce the drop by using thicker wires, but it shouldn't be too problematic.

Thanks. Even though I will never fix an alternator, its good to know!
@LesNewell
@LesNewell Жыл бұрын
Ideally the alternator output wire should go directly to the battery. You get quite a bit of voltage drop through that long wire that goes up to the ammeter then back down to the battery. I'd guess that it originally had a dynamo. It will still charge, just more slowly than if the wire went directly to the battery.

Dear Mr. Camarata. 👍👌👏 Very well done again (video and work). You're definitely good with the drone. 2) Maybe putting some grease nipples on the pedal bases to lube the axle would help to handle the dozer. Unfortunately penetration oil doesn't last long as a lubricant. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you (including the wonderful dogs of course).

Hey Andrew I have a few vehicles that sit around away from available power and have found that solar panels & charge controllers work great to keep the batteries fresh for cheap. I couldn't imagine dealing with your many dozens of batteries.

Andrew, great video as always! Nothing better than waking up with a notification of a new video from you! Seriously you blow away 99.9% of everything produced by everyone IMHO. No fake drama, no BS. Question, in the start of the video you are working on the Honda ATV carb, were those harbor freight tools and if so, how do you like them? Then when you are vacuuming out the bulldozer it appears you have a shopvac and 5 gallon bucket as the collection base? What is this setup, I have never seen that done before. That is a fantastic idea for nasty stuff! Hope all is well.

Home depot has a vac called bucket head that uses the 5 gallon as the base. Simple and easy to use, but loud AF. $30. Good for messy jobs. If you want more functionality than that - look at the dust deputy for long time use.

Hi Andrew, another great vid. Daily viewer but I've been away from YT for a while (is that dog a Weimerreiner?) so CONGRATS ON A MILLION SUBS! Your "Fixing and Talking about Chainsaws" was my introduction to your channel and still one of my faves. You've really come along way and I want to sincerely THANK YOU for all you do and all you share. You'll be over 2 million before you know it!

It is another lab. I am not clear if Cody is the father but he was given one from a friend/breeder. The guy brought them over, and the other guy would keep blue. Blue fell in love with Andrew, and the dog AC was going to keep, Liked the breeder better... So blue kind of "Picked" AC to be his daddy! In the end, they switched dogs.
