It's important to be understanding of people and not jump to conclusions/judgments. With the complicated family stuff, I think calling that a red flag comes from a place of privilege that you grew up with a healthy and intact family, which isn't the case for many. And many are doing their best to heal from difficult pasts and shouldn't be judged for what they are bringing to the table.

I loved that you touched on family/in-laws. My husband does not have a relationship with much of his family, and at first I thought it was a red flag because I am so close with my family. BUT, as Shawn said, "that's not the person". We had a long conversation and I realized just how toxic of a family he had & why he chose to not have a relationship with his family. He gets along SO well with my family and I couldn't ask for a better man. He's a great husband and an even more wonderful father. I'm so glad I took the time to get to know why & to truly listen.

Thank you for giving "has a complicated relationship with your family" a yellow flag. I totally agree that it warrants considerable communication while a couple is dating. Definitely. But as a teacher who has seen many students try so hard to "break the cycle" of their home situation and have succeeded, I would urge a person to learn the person you are dating and not judge them by their parents. People can want and achieve something better than what they had growing up or maybe just want something very different from their childhood. Maybe they have become a Christian while their family is not, for example. It doesn't mean you should write their family off in all circumstances either just definitely don't judge an individual by who their family is and where they came from.

My husband and I are both introverted and we spend all out time together. We are each other's best friends. We don't really associate with people. We have a few core people in our small group we do things with. It makes you rely, understand and communicate with each other. We literally feel lost when we are part. We occasionally get on each others nerves but we laugh about everything.

@kaitlynmccollum28163 жыл бұрын
Absolutely love this!!! My fiancé and I are getting married in October and I could not agree with this more. Dating can be hard, especially now a days with covid and technology. We all have certain things that throw those little flags into our head and it could make or break the relationship. I try to have an open mind when meeting new people and building a new relationship, even in new friendships because I know we all aren’t to same. They even say sometimes they say the whole opposite attracts but theirs still some big red flags that it’s just like a “nope, go back to go and do not collect $100, bye bye!!!👋👋👋” but I do agree we all have certain criteria’s already wired into us that we may not even notice that we are like yeah that’s good or nope that’s a no go. Love listening to y’all’s podcasts and advice and cannot wait to see y’all when you come to Charlotte!!!😍😍😍

As per green flags- my fav green flag is when they go out of their way to do something to make your day better, not necessarily a big thing just to make you smile. When we had been dating a couple weeks, my now husband and I would end up on the phone late at night and one night I was falling asleep on the phone. The next morning he had sent me a gift card for coffee cause he knew I would need it to get through the day. Even now my fav thing he says is “would it help you if I do…” shows they care about your emotional well-being
