I absolutely loev Paul singing Baby Face - such joy and enthusiasm and why not? Paul always like different genres dating right back to the 1920's. John might have slagged it off as granny's music but Paul actually sings it really well with a lovely sort of loose fun. A roaring vocal with some nice brass element (real or keyboard). I think this is a ripper release - just so much fun with all that diversity. Packaging design is rather bland, maybe trying to look bootlegish - but the music is pure exuberant fun. I love the vibe of a band blasting it out having a ball. Brilliant.

I hope you're keeping well. Andrew. I've been watching your posts but just not commenting as much these days as I don't want to fall into the waffling trap that I can easily fall into. That's me waffling by the way - not you. Your videos remain very enjoyable, and I like the way you always maintain a positive but not over-the-top approach in all you do. Some other channels I find a bit sycophantic for me and others too critical, but you always seem to find that perfect middle ground. My goodness I love this release, even though I have heard most of it before, the production and song order is great. I've always played piano including a bit of swing jazz hence my love for Cole Porter, Gershwin etc... so I tend to like albums such as Kisses... more than most and I can relate to McCartney very much on that playing field such as Baby’s request, You Gave Me the Answer, and most of what John called Granny music. Everyone though seems to be loving this release. Takle care.

Paul has become notorious for these marketing schemes. Most people who want a physical release will buy this on CD. So he entices us to buy a second copy on vinyl - a limited edition from his web site - to get the exclusive "Backyard Tape" content. Most classic rock artists would take ALL of this material and put it on a 2 CD + 1 blu-ray package for a nice price and make everybody happy.

Great overview of the album, Andrew, and I share your enthusiasm for this release. Just absolutely stellar work by one of the best Wings lineups. And this might be my favorite version of Sally G, a tune which maddingly enough isn't in his Lyrics book nor in the lyrics section of his website. As for the Archive collection, I don't personally care if it's dead or not, but I do care a lot that London Town and Back to the Egg seem to be low priorities for MPL. I wish they had included "Suicide" (seen on the DVD with BOTR Archive) and a few more of the backyard songs, but I'm tickled with all the new stuff we do have. Hi Andrew, great review and upload. My comment for what it's worth I think your insightful comment about Paul thinking about being 32 and still playing rock is interesting, I guess my thought is who had done this before? If you look at Chuck Berry and Elvis they were not particularly cool at this time so maybe he was thinking is this still cool? I think after wings massive success playing the states proved he could and maybe like the Beatles Paul was the precedent that great artists could continue to be relevant. When he said who wants to hear from me to you when we are old men? Jagger said the same about satisfaction but if you can play and sing when you are old and love it and it sells tickets maybe they said what they said was true at the time but when they got to those ages thought so what? Who can argue with his record, great upload cheers Tim

Growing up in the 1970s any Wings release of anything is very welcome to me! Maybe Wings Over Europe should come out as a release now for those who missed out on the 71-73 box. Also, if Back To The Egg is dragging it's old feet I think a remix of the 1979 Wings Glasgow show should come out just like OHC. Baby Face leans very heavily and draws influence on the Kinks 'honky tonk' version that they performed with the Mike Cotton Sound, as the arrangement is very similar. The Kinks had a very music hall good time honky tonk based live show through the early to mid '70s (with Ray Davies taking on the persona of Max Miller) that included BF as a staple, which had been in the Kinks live act since 1971. So, its very likely MaCartney had come across the Kinks version/stage act which was very musical hall/variety based at the time. Keep at the good work.

So this is Jimmy McCulloch's album? No surprises there. He was brilliant. But even so, it makes sense that he never quite nailed the guitar solo on "My Love". Henry McCullough's solo on that is arguably the greatest guitar solo on any McCartney song. Not because it's difficult to play, but because it's so utterly unique and infused with McCullough's personal feel for music. Had Jimmy played it exactly the same way, it still wouldn't have sounded the same. He did better playing it his own way, even if it never quite hit the same heights, in my opinion.
