For me, this is perfect. This app is just as relevant as a sketch pad to put ideas down then move on to your main DAW. My workflow is creating my own samples, do a rough arrangement, done! Ready to port over to my MPC to flesh out. Okay minuses, 9 samples only, no midi, (yet) 4 bar limit, Pluses, decent fx, automation, decent mastering, brilliant eq, clear/fun user interface and a pretty much nonexistent learning curve. Sometimes I just need an app to do a few things well, rather than everything all at once, yeah, I understand some people might find it “lacking” but for me it’s a fantastic work tool.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Used properly, Flip can be a dope tool! And a fun one at that!

You can quantize to 1/16 and 1/32. You just gotta zoom in on the timeline before you press the Q

Thanks for the heads up! 👍🏽 Someone recently let me know the same thing

dude, straight phenomenal presentation. Came across this app last night and I honestly might cancel my sp-404 pre order..I mean seriously.. especially with midi in now..either way. Can't wait to check out more of your stuff.

I was chuckling at 04:11 when you said “…it’s kind of a limitation.” We are really spoilt. I always remind myself that people like Teddy Riley recorded whole songs on a 4 track recorder so I’m learning to embrace the “limitations”

very informative video! thanks for that. One of the biggest questions that I actually have is how well you can export the stems and further work on a real DAW, because to me the main function would be sketchin' out a beat on the go and then really finish it in my DAW on PC or Mac. Do you or anyone has experience in that? Thanks in advance
@MusicTechnologist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, I have exported the stems before! It's really quick and easy, and it bounces out a zip file. 👌🏽

Does it export to Ableton as Blocs Wave does? I find it quite awesome and helps the workflow. Nice video btw!

Trying this app. Works well as a sampler player and editor. Man need to add quantization values, I immediately missed that. Cool sampler for the iPad though and that works well.

They should make it a daw, and while we’re on the subject, why doesn’t the beathawk app let u chop samples and why does imaschine 2 only have 4 track and u can’t chop samples, korg gadget made is so u don’t have to buy a $2000.00 keyboard , cubasis gives u everything , like what’s the deal with these limits
@MusicTechnologist3 жыл бұрын
I would agree about them making it into a full DAW. I think Andrew has a keen eye for aesthetics, which is something iOS DAWs could use more of! As for the other apps you mentioned, I can’t say for sure because I haven’t used them, but it seems to be the same scenario. They don’t have full fledged DAW features because they are not full fledged DAWs. They’re designed to have a level of simplicity to make it easier for those that are intimidated by complex software.

@@MusicTechnologist I see what your saying, however I use studio one but not too it’s fullest, just enuff to make my beats but I have room to grow when ready to learn more, the limits that they have feel more like they want u to go for the bigger buy, 4 trks and no chopping in imaschine2 mean u just play what they give u , u have no real control, certainly if uncan handle four your ideas can open up with 8trks, and why no chopping, maschine is holding its own with the Mpc. But there app u can chop in , u can also use vst samplers to chop in it. And they have Mpcbeats for free, so u don’t have to buy a $1000 machine. Ppl want more even if there not ready for it all, beathawk is a dope app but we need to do more them just trim the front n end of samples, I want apps to be simple to, just let me chop things and get an 8 trk sequencer I think I’m good

Gadget and Cubasis are more expensive than Flip. THATS the deal with those limits

I don’t think the app would retain it’s intuitive and clear UI if Andrew decide to develop it into DAW. Good sampler with FX, convenient sequencer and mixer is all we need to play and have fun. As of today track length is increased already. However, there are few things that still need improvement: 1. More FX. We really need distortion/saturation. 2. Quantisation. We need more grid options (eigths, triplets) and most important - a slider to choose the quantisation amount to apply.

Hello At 10:00 you said you can’t quantize to anything under a quarter note Maybe I misunderstood what you meant but if you zoom in the piano roll your notes can actually stick to 16th notes (maybe even32th) Edit : yep, 32th
@fatphilg3 жыл бұрын
I think when clicking the Q to quantize it'll move everything to the nearest 1/4 note.
@Jmdeleeuw-3 жыл бұрын
@@fatphilg Nope it does not. If you zoom in on the timeline it will quantize to different amounts. It only quantizes to the 1/4th if you are zoomed all the way out.

when you say a sampler ..can you Muti sample into layers, ... can it auto-sample I'm comparing it with Audiolayer or sampler in logic
@MusicTechnologist3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t found a way to do either of those things in Flip. The BeatMaker 3 sample tab can though! Flip is more for creating individual samples for each of your 9 pads and then playing them in. It has some limitations for sure.
