If you want to get to the center of the Earth in a legitimate way, the best would probably be to just build an automated system with welders and grinders which creates a warhead attached to the end of a regular light armor block, and then destroys the armor block, thus dropping the bomb. I made a ship in creative which did this, and it blew itself to the center of the Earth in not very long, and it seems completely reasonable to do this on a Survival server where you've gotten to the point where resources isn't an issue. Would like to see you try it this way as well just to have it be a bit more legitimate!

In the early days, trying to go to the center of a planet, brought a lot of weirdness with it. I found it fascinating watching those blocks floating around. It was like watching the game's physics code actually at work. I wonder what it would look like if you floated batteries around with interior lights on them? Dang Nab It! Now I want to do that. : ) A little trick I learned. If you hold the left or right mouse button down and open inventory (I key) and then let go of the mouse button and press I again to exit inventory . . . You will find that your drills will continue to operate in harvest or excavate mode. It works with grinders as well. I have never had to assign a on/off key on my hot bar. It works with the 'K' key as well but you have to press the K key and then escape. The other way is easier because, with practice you can quickly double tap the I key to achieve the same effect. Addendum: I wonder what a base would look like at the center? Build a large hollow box around the center. The outside of it would become all floors. Then build from there. I imagine would it turn out to be a interesting design.

Ok crazy Idea but it requires fixing the memory leak at the very least! Starting in a "core void" like the one you made, place a "processor" (A drilling machine that can auto drill and process the material and spit it back out into the void) could you eventually consume the planet turning it into a cloud of refined material? I'm thinking maybe the machine would not move far enough from the core to actually consume the planet. Also the sheer number of object would seize up you computer. Fun video. Thanks!
@DERlpschauer5 жыл бұрын
what andrew hasnt found out jet is, that tgravity in this game is not perfeclty balanced. what i mean by that is, you will accelerate more and more the more you pass at the center of the gravity(tested with planet center and gravity generator) what i mean is that your "orbit" will go bigger and bigger until you get slingshotted out of the grav field. that is what we could youse the pendulum the void machine inside the cneter of the planet to consume it from the inside......jeah :D

24:50 In case you're interested, that's not how the physics would work in real life. In fact, inside of that hollow sphere surrounding the center of the earth the gravitational field would be zero. As you descend into the earth, the gravitational field would decrease linearly (not quadratically!). This is due to the shell theorem--any sphere of uniform density exerts no gravitational field inside of itself. This makes sense if you think of gravity in the same way you think of Gauss's law--the since gravitational field decreases by 1/r^2, its divergence is zero outside of the mass exerting the field. In a sphere, the gravitational field lines would have to diverge from the center of the sphere in order to exist, making them impossible. Your motion as you fall toward the center of the earth would be a sinusoid--it is a differential equation of the form d^2y/dx^2 = -C*y (the solution is an exponential function with period i*sqrt(C) which is equivalent to a sinusoid by Euler's formula).

Just imagine an imposible hypothetical situation: a space mission; an astronaut flies on a spacecraft through the unknowh area of cosmos. He constantly speaks what he sees, how he feels, and other stuff, which is all transmited to the earth to controll center, where dozens of people monitoring the flight and listening to his reports. Then, suddenly, there is a loud crack, the signal interrupts, the ship is no more transmitting... After a long moment of confusion and panic signal appers again. There is only sound. They immediately ask him what happened. And that is what they hear in responce... 26:39

Things you may not know; From a control seat / cockpit etc, start to right-click the drills, while holding right mouse button press i or f to open inventory menu, let go of right-click button then close inventory menu, the drills keep on right-click mining without holding any buttons (right-click again to stop them). This works for left click drilling too but so does an on/off command on the control toolbar. On Keen's official servers and custom game scenarios the centre of the earth-like planet is always exactly at GPS: 0,0,0, nice to know for lining up surface GPS's for drop pods, or for GPS's at opposite sides of the planet. There was (maybe still is) a glitch where wheeled vehicles at speed would fall through the surface of planets, if you stay with that vehicle it does fall all the way to the centre and when I got there I found a large spherical rock (roughly the size of the orbiting you did) and some other players' vehicles that had suffered from the same glitch. If you gravity align the Ikea drill ship during construction and do not fit a gyroscope, it would never deviate from the vertical, not even because of drill unbalancing, it eliminates the need for guide wheels too. Your finale reminded me so much of a windows 95 screensaver.

Gravity is directly correlated with the mass of an object, so if you were to dig to the center of the earth and have a hollowed out area as you've done, you'd actually be pulled to the walls slowly as the mass of the earth is now around you, wanting to pull you in all directions.

This is basically how the universe works, it is so accurate, I love the physics engine, it is amazing where it needs to be, some realism taken out (entire base can hang off a cliff from one block...but that's ok, life is hard, we need something simple). I was wondering this, cause I am building a giant underground bunker, but I am new, so I am experimenting and learning all the time...and in fact I might start streaming this cause it is quite big and I am a noob, so for all the newcomers, I might want to show how I learn things, cause this game is amazing, I am studying civil engineering, this opens up your imagination to anything you want, taking actually machines and their mechanics, but scaled up, I can't wait to learn programming, great vid, I will subscribe🤙

I don't know if you're still doing these video/myth busting, but; A.) This was fantastic, and I think SE should adopt your blocks floating around the core as part of their intro screens or something. B.) I've managed to built a very stable digger like your #2 rig, but unpiloted. It has full storage and refinery and assembler on-board and goes down very smoothly. C.) My goal is to keep that digger going, and have it create a conveyor out of it's back end, that remains connected to the surface. Similar to building a space elevator, but in reverse. I am having trouble creating this last piece though, as keeping it connected as it descends has proven quite difficult and perhaps beyond my limited feeble mind to produce. Any idea's would be phenomenal.

Well, that just gave me an idea. Several tunnels to the centre of the planet, from strategic points on the planet's surface, using very fast elevators (probably modded, don't think that fast elevators exist, unless you use some magic with grav gens). Voila, you got yourself a fast transport system between vast distant points on the planet. Add to that a distribution centre on the Moon for automated asteroid miners and a cargo shuttle between the moon and the planet, and you can distribute materials to any point on the planet automatically with ease. Sure, would take days, possibly weeks to set up, but after that...

Would be cool if removing enough of a planet changed the gravity. Could try on a moon to make it easier.

you said that this is what would happen in real live too if you were to go to the center of the Earth. Just for the physics interested, i would like to tell you that it would be a bit different: if you were hollow out the center of the earth and walk into it, the gravity would cancel out in every direction, not just the exact center. So if you were in a sphere at the center, no matter how big, you would have (in a perfect sphere) zero g in the whole hollowed out sphere. the two reasons that Space engineers doesnt simulate this are: 1) they simmulate gravity just from the single point in the center will all the mass. 2) they dont have the gravity law correct. For those trying to check for themselfes, try to integrate the Force over a spherical hull. you will see that the result is 0 for anywhere inside. If anyone needs help, comment and ill lend you a hand :) Just some Fun facts about physics :)

Can you mine an entire planet away?

The cubes would make an awesome wallpaper, or screensaver

When I dug to the center of the planet a few years ago my ship just stopped and wouldn't go any further than a certain point. You could not go any further than that point but when I set mine up if was automated with atmospheric thrusters pointing down and up so that it would descend faster but not to fast, I think I also put gyro scopes on it to help keep it straight as well thrusters on the sides to assist it even more. Also if you right click and then open the blocks menu for the ship your in it will keep the drills on.
