What controversy does Immortal have? Don't get me wrong; I love Immortal but they're practically the Sesame Street of black metal.
@AndrewMarloweTV6 ай бұрын
Yea I agree haha I was making an example of a black metal band void of controversy like immortal. Although they do have personal and musical controversy like I mentioned

In an interview he stated that the blood that has been spilled over there is in the soil. I have never stepped on European soil, but I feel connected to that darkness in that I embrace it without fear as part of life.

There are NO bands that can touch the mighty Watain today. They are not just any other black metal band. They are a beast standing on their own solid fundation built by their own merit. Yes they have their roots in certain black metal heritage but they have become much more and their inspirations grasps far beyond just that. And when it comes to Lyrics NO artists of today come close the brillance of Eriks lyrics. Unfortunatly or maybe "fortunatly" most people of today will never grasp the brillance of his lyrics outside of people who have a understanding of the esoteric, occult and spiritual world. A world forgotten by most and almost always complely misunderstood by almost everybody who come into contact with it and think they understand. Like the empty headed Atheists making fun of religious texst or ancient mythologies and believes when its in fact they themselves who are the clowns who cant even begin two understand the complexities and deeper meanings found within those tales and what lies inbetween the lines and imagerys

I seen them 2xs live. Unfortunately they couldn't use the blood being as they where playing in Japan. They could use fire though.

Always intriguing to see americans explaining to us laymen about black metal, if it weren't for the fact that you do not really know what you are talking about, but likely regurgitating what the internet says. Watain did not pioneer theistic satanism. It stemmed from bands like Ondskapt & Ofermod etc. Their "theistic satanism" is nothing but a derivate of the chaos gnostic perspective that bands like Dissection propagated in the early 2000s which is really akin to a New Age concoction.
@AndrewMarloweTV5 ай бұрын
Yea, I'm aware they weren't the first band to pioneer theistic Satanism, and the dissection infleluece on watain is strong for sure

I mean Eric played bass in Dissection. No surprise.

Hmm Sworn to the Dark is not their most beloved album today. There is some aesthetic and spiritual(?) value to what they say and do. The takeaway is their holistic approach to art. Their way of life influences and is reflected in their art. As whether anyone decides to believe all their religious, ritualistic, and magic-related, stuff… well it is up to you. I have seen them live and there was no blood or vomiting. Just a passionate band giving their all on stage.
@AndrewMarloweTV4 ай бұрын
Yea like I said, I think they save most of the theatrics for special shows. Either way still a great band
@EzekielGoldbergII2 ай бұрын
Watain is anti cosmic. At least read Liber Azerate if you want to talk about their spiritual aspects.
@ian.swift.316145 ай бұрын
anyone who is reading this comment ought to try the live bassists other band, XALPEN. the past few albums have outclassed anything Watain has done since Wild Hunt, which was the last good album in my opinion. Nuclear Alchemy and Sacred Damnation songs are cool enough but the last couple of albums have been worthless as a whole with no good songwriting to be heard. just randomly scattered parts of a machine, connected to the wrong sections.

I like Watain's music, I find Erik's views interesting. On the other hand, they are showmen and businessmen and the fact that they have removed Set goes against the much-vaunted fuck-off attitude and freedom...
