Nice one - my favourite home studio I've ever seen. He's basically got a real life version of the options we get from things like Fractal and Kemper lol. I like how in this video he talks a bit about the actual room itself and the house and about noise considerations.

Tim was a roommate of mine in 1979, and whether he was making coffee, on his way to the bathroom, watching TV, or anything...he had his guitar on. And if he wasn't doing something else with his hands, he was playing that guitar.

Tim is a wizard. His setup/gear is amazing. He can do anything. I don't think he could play a wrong note or a bad chord if he tried.

I think this is probably the most in-depth and full look at Tim's studio. It's definitely the best one I've seen. Others have been good, but there's always been some angle of the layout missing, and the way the cab room is laid out is awesome. Andrew, you've done a ton of awesome studio tours, but I have to say Tim's studio is probably the one I'd try to model mine after, if I ever have the opportunity to make a dedicated studio.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing. I feel like everybody else focused on the same 60% of his studio and we have finally gotten to see the rest. This is awesome.

Watching his videos I always envisioned Tim was set up in a small room in his house. This is definitely not what I expected. It's cool to see all the toys and how things were set up.

Everything in this video is correct and represents the correct set of priorities if you in fact intend to make recordings. Which isn't unexpected given this gentleman actually makes recordings people listen to, but is still rare for what gets presented on KZbin. I love the beautifully architected spaces you show, but this is what it really looks like, note the emphasis on getting things done and the elimination of every unnecessary movement.

This was a spectacular tour! Tim often talks about aspects of his setup, but we don’t usually get to see. I’ve always wondered about his mysterious amp cave below deck, lol. He always describes his workspace like an airplane cockpit, so I guess his amp setup is like the belly of the plane where many guitars sadly get damaged when musicians are forced to check them. 😉 😂

I've loved Tim since the 80s when he played and toured for Rick Springfield. He is top-shelf. I love that his studio is stacked yet very homey compared to other YTers that build out the ULTIMATE studio layout that looks straight out of the next century. It's a living room, bar, that happens to have all the top gear anyone guitarist could ever want.

of all the videos I've seen of Tim's studio, I've never seen one where the camera is pulled back for a total overview. Another great video Andrew. The only thing that scares me is the power cables bunched up in a pile mainly because I've seen a fire started from the heat generated from a single extension cord left coiled up but I'm sure Tim has insurance and a fire extinguisher.

Nice to finally have an idea how that cabroom looks like! Tim talks a lot about his mic’ed up cabs but he never showed them ;) Just wondering how the pencil mic performs when recording the low E string on an accoustic. I always have the impression they lack a bit of bass and you’re maybe better of with a bigger capsule. Or at least a mix of both.

When using two mics like a Royer and a 57, is the technique to pan left and right usually or combine both in the spacial field to have one signal with the lows and highs of both mics? I know it should be done by ear with no rules just curious on what the pros usually do most of the time.

@@timpierceguitar Your vertical setup confuses me so much :) Aren't the woofers reversed (one side on top, one side on bottom) if you set them up like this? According to the S3a manual, the A speaker has the woofer on the left side, the B speaker on the right side. Are they modified, or are you using 2 As (or Bs) - or does it simply not matter? OR did I "3D rotate" it wrong in my mind? :D

Yes, that surprises me too! On other videos he says that he throws a blanket over the cab and microphone. He gets amazing sounds and it's shocking to see that it comes from a cranked amp in a small room with absolutely no acoustic treatment.
