SONY MINI LED TV 2022 REVIEW
If you’ve shopped for a new TV any time in the past 10 or more years, most people would say the best TV you can buy is an OLED, but is that still true in 2022? Now that Mini LED is being used in place of full array, is OLED still best? Are Mini LED TVs as good as OLED? Can Sony’s new X95K TV beat or at least match the performance of an OLED? Let’s find out!

Are Vizio good for gaming? I was thinking about getting the new 55 inch M Series Quantum X TV with M Series Elevate Soundbar. 55 inch does 1080p 240 fps. I need 8 tv's for a Brooklyn Brownstone. Either these with a pc or TCL XL with the series x. Not sure what to get!

Yet once again, Sony completely knocks it out of the park with the X95K. Just an absolute work of art. There's a reason why it was rated the best non-OLED TV in the world. Hats off to Sony for what they managed to accomplish with it. Samsung and LG will clearly be in the backseat for the remainder of 2022.

My brother and I just ordered the Sony X95k for our father who always complains about dark scenes. We bought him a 50" Vizio M501d-A2, 3D TV somewhere around 10 years ago, so this should be a nice upgrade. Another reason I went with this Sony TV is the fact if can be set in Basic mode, something very important for older folks.🤣

No joke, the 85" X95K is on another level. The OLED can't compete with HDR impact of LED and the shadow detail on Sony. The X95L appears to be getting the flagship treatment and it's well deserved.

Thanks for this EXCELLENT comparison. This is the first of your videos I've watched and it inspired me to subscribe to your channel immediately. This video also made me very enthusiastic about investing in an LCD TV like the Sony X95K (instead of an OLED model). It's great knowing that today's top-of-the-line LCD TVs offer high brightness without sacrificing picture quality. I just wish that the Sony X95 was made in a 55" size (I live in a house that's 340 sq. ft. total and the largest screen I can squeeze in here is 55"). The Sony X90K IS available in smaller sizes (though it doesn't have the benefit of mini LEDs). In my specific situation, an OLED or QD-OLED TV may ultimately be my best option. But I know what it's like to experience "analysis paralysis"!

I was hoping for a significant amount of backlighting zones in the X95K and the Z9K but after reviews and also seeing how many zones they are using, the blooming is too bad. I was thinking about purchasing a Z9K which is better than the Z9J even in the amount of zones it has but it still doesn't have enough. I wish these companies would make more backlighting zones at least at a 1080p scale and a processor good enough to keep lag down. I would consider an OLED but not going to risk burn in since I use my gaming PC on my main TV too.

Hi Andrew, I totally agreed with your opinion. I love watching movies on my 85" X95K more than anything else. However, I also love watching movies and prefer to play games on my 85" QN900B. When watching movies in HDR, the QN900B pops a bit more than the X95K, but the color reproduction on the X95K is superior to the samsung. When it comes to upscaling, which I tested it with a bunch of downloaded videos in x264, h265, x265....In sum, when the video is in low bit rate, the samsung cannot upscale it properly, sometimes it looks very terrible losing a lot of details. On the other hand, the Sony upscaling everything I threw at it very very well. In addition, When you reviewed the samsung, you mentioned that the75" QN900B probably not as good as the 85" and you were right. I had returned my 75" and got the 85", and I can tell the 85" has slightly better picture quality. The 85" is very very bright and the blooming control is spectacular!! The 65" is not bad at all, I am using it along with my 42" C2 as my pc monitors. I noticed that the 65" has very so slightly more blooming than the 85", but the picture quality between the two are very very close. In my opinion, I don't think I will need to upgrade my tvs in a few years, the new ones are just getting brighter and brighter. Just buy the best tvs today and only upgrade when we see something that is significantly superior, for example, micro led tvs. I always enjoy watching your reviews :))

Thanks again for that great review on the awesome 85" X95K as I saw for myself it's stunning picture compared to other TV's at a local Best Buy...I don't care about critical settings or test patterns or such as the average viewer wouldn't care...don't even look for blooming as this 85" set has demonstrated that it is mostly non-existent..It basically all boils down to what looks good to me as the old saying comes to mind "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" ...With this year's addition of the mini LEDs and the return of that magnificent master backlight drive this year's Sony (85") has blacks that look as close to oled blacks as any tv I've ever seen PLUS a brighter, more vivid & impactful HDR highlight's experience... Most of our viewing experience is 98% 4k movies in a very much light controlled lower level...Very immersive tv watching for sure! It's current price of $3,999 for the 85" may be the lowest it'll go but I have been proven wrong before...

This guy is not lying. I struggle so bad with TV purchases and always try to buy top end. IT IS ALWAYS A TRADE OFF!! I own an oled for my side room and an x95j for my living room. If you want that hard HDR punch you better get an LED is all I can say. Oled's look fantastic almost like wet paint is the only way I can describe it DEEP blacks too. But if I am gonna buy a TV right this minute I could not tell you what I would buy.

I have the a90j and while it's solid... The HDR impact in a full bright scene just can't be touched by an OLED as compared to led tvs, especially for gaming. Too many times my tv dims down during a long race on Gran Turismo or during a sports game. I will be going back to led again for my next tv. Also, Sony's cognitive processor is the reason to pay the premium in my book. Next level immersion. I still run my x930e and at times I am taken aback by the brightness and how much more window like the image is

I came into some decent money so I upgraded to its big brother, except 75", in the Z9K top of the line mini led set. It has some minor blooming in certain situations with text but has inky blacks and HDR just has a wow factor and 3d you are there look that it blows away my previous TCL 65 825 mini led set which also has a excellent picture and I'm keeping for my bedroom 😁. The X95k has probably 95 percent of what the K brings to the table, just isn't quite as bright and not 8k. You can save a significant amount of money and get the bigger size going with the X95k 85, I just wanted the best led Sony makes to treat myself to a bigger major upgrade. Sony sets always have excellent color balance and just seem to hold up a long time.

I’ve been looking forward to this review and this TV sounds like it would be a great replacement for my living room display as the next year’s models are rolling out. I do have one question though. I watched both the LG review and this one, and it wasn’t clear to me why you ended up deadlocked between the two- maybe I missed it or wasn’t able to parse it out. But what aspects of the LG’s performance made it where you didn’t feel able to choose?

Everyone is entitled to there own opinions but "some" of the comments on here are downright disrespectful.. ignorant...asinine! I viewed the 83" LG C2..83" Sony A90J oled from last year, and this year's 85" Sony X95K & "in my opinion" not only was the X95K more vibrant & vivid compared to those 2 which were all next to each other showing the same content BUT it showed greater detail in the dark scenes...I saw no blooming...point dead on was the color accuracy... HUGE improvement over last year's X95J with the mini-leds & the brilliant master backlight drive technology! We're 98% 4k movie watchers & non-gamers and looking at the 85" set which did get down to $4,499 recently...Thx sir for your continued excellent reviews!

I love retro gaming and OLED is out of the question, I know many of you say no burn in but reading 100s of reviews doesn't inspire confidence at all. Plus jutter and motion issues? Not good for fighting games on modern systems. So I'll probably be getting the Sony X95k.

It really is 1st world problems these days with top tier TVs. As the price of the A90J falls I almost pray it does not get in my lets buy it happy range LOL! If you do any research these days its almost hard to get it wrong. Great video and I feel the same about it.

Yes motion on an OLED is truly terrible unless your willing to use some interpolation. The incredibly fast pixel response just makes low framerate content look awful. Without good motion interpolation, I'd rather have an LCD. I own a C1 and I couldn't imagine using it without interpolation and enjoying it. It's like being drunk.

You hit on several good points in this review which question the value of a Hisense: 1. Mini LED is getting so good that most wouldn't know it's not OLED. 2. Margins between LG, Samsung, and Sony are very thin but the price is not. 3. You have to really try, to Not get a good TV these days. So with that said, how does the Hisense U8H stack to the much more expensive competition from Samsung, LG, and Sony? Are the Sony X95k, LG C2, or Samsung QN90B or QN900B really $1000+ dollars better than the Hisense U8H and would average friends and family notice?

We recently finished our basement and moved our x90j to the basement. It’s awesome down there! For the upstairs I went with the x95k. the added brightness is welcomed over the x90j because of how bright our living room is. I did consider oled but brightness won me over along with keeping the google operating system and loving Netflix calibrated mode. Just like you said, it’s a buyers market. We get to decide what works for us and in any budget you can get a great tv.

I will be honest, I have owned both the LG and Sony 4K options mentioned in their smaller brother forms and when it comes to the 50s Sony Vs LG, Sony’s technology and clarity and even built in tv speakers right out of the box are far superior to the LG tv’s. There is no doubt in my mind that LG and Sony are the tv kings on the market right now but if you have the extra coin to drop on the TV then pick the Sony. I know I will every time. But if you are on a budget but still love 4K clarity, LG is not a bad choice at all. Leave samsung alone.

Great review as allways. I bought an Oled a week ago. I have decided to return it because of the biggest disadvantage to Oled, which I didn’t know about, and nobody is talking about. Image stuttering, it is crazy annoying to me. Watching dolby vision or hdr content, one would expect the picture is smooth. But on Oled, it stutters, picture lag. It does it because oled has crazy low latenzy, so frames are shown longer timer on 24 fps content. Oled is no go for me now, I am actually sad, it was my dream to have one. And now I am looking for a LED TV instead, a week after my dream came true This Sony looks amazing, but the price😅
