He could have mentioned his brand at any moment in this but chose to promote local skateshops and saw the positives in the cheaper option. Big respect. I still have a Target board I bought probably ten years ago for $40. The design is Tony Hawk Huckjam Series with an orange skull-shaped squid, however I was told by someone that those were only sold at Walmart? Either way, it was bad to ride, same plastic wrap issue and bearings don't want to roll. I didn't ride much at all on it, but still managed to chip the wood quite a bit. Also the trucks did not want to flex at all. I didn't have much money back then, but now that I do I have proper skateboards that I chose parts for myself and it's a huge difference. I don't recommend those boards unless you really don't have the money.

I was very fortunate that my father was in a position to buy my brother & I pro model boards from the jump. I remember hopping onto these “big box” boards and even as a kid I felt like I was asking for a hospital visit. They have def come a long way. It’s almost similar to the budget guitars nowadays. The super cheap ones are actually not bad at all.

Depending on the wheels but here and there you will find boards that can actually roll decent just I’d recommend getting harder wheels if your doing tricks and soft wheels for cruising

Back in the day I bought A board from Zellers And it was an 80's 1 kick board and got a pair of venture trucks and 35mm Mutant wheels for xmas. Boards have come along way since.

There are always problems with those boards but the trucks & wheels/ bearings etc are always f****d up. But I used those as parts if something went wrong while I was skating I would head over to Walmart or wherever and usually I would borrow some of the parts off of those boards that I needed and continue with my day. Take that however you like ☮️

I skateboarded as a kid, I was decent, not amazing, but decent. Want to get back into it and now that I'm an adult. Grabbed a ReDo skateboard from Target because it doesn't look like trash. No not pro, just not total junk. Like buying a Schwinn mountain bike instead of a Roadmaster mountain bike. It's a notable improvement, but it's nothing impressive. Same vibe here. There's better without trying, but again, at least this isn't total trash.

have a darkstar walmart board had it for quite a few years just a year or so ago got really into skating again got new wheels and bearings my board is chipped on both ends the tail is completely smashed there's barely any left the nose is my new tail but it's still missing like half of it.
