I had been living/working in Singapore and now living in kl, and it's so much better here: people are more friendly and relax, less crowded, more things to do.. And I wouldn't return to Singapore and live there anymore.. I can get so much more in Malaysia than in Singapore in term of prices wise and facilities !.

Thank you Andy and Erick. I very much appreciate the insights and perspectives. They very much concur with my recollections of living in Malaysia many years ago, and like Erick, the heat was the only overarching thing I recall wanting some reprieve from and that is of concern I would have about retiring back to Malaysia today. I do recall adapting and KL feeling hotter but a bit drier then Penang, and if anyone has any personal take on the heat when older I'd appreciate the insights as well.

You should make some time to visit one of the highlands in Malaysia, nearest is Genting Highlands or the Tropical French Colmar Village in Bukit Tinggi or few hours from KL are Cameron Highlands and Fraser's Hills, Kundasang in Sabah also looks lovely.

@@andrewtaylor4558 That sounds good. You ought to know that Genting Highland is the only legally permitted gambling casino in Malaysia. It's also an indoor amusement park and outdoor themed park. Recently, there are many new attractions in the themed park including a shopping mall. Awana Genting Highland is one of the best place to stay, but you got to take a cable car to the top. The hotel with the most hotel rooms in the world is also located on top of the hill. 😀

Hi, Taylor. I've been in communication with that agency you recommended. Unfortunately, Malaysia is going to tax all FSI (foreign sourced income), including pensions, beginning in 2027. Since Malaysia and the US don't have a tax treaty, that means I'd have to pay double taxes on my pension if I relocated there. It's not financially viable. I don't know if you've done a video on this issue yet, and 2027 seems a long ways away, but it seems like a topic worth considering.
@andrewtaylor45584 ай бұрын
Even so, the tax will probably be low, offset by the low cost of living.
@michaelhooi28564 ай бұрын
@Falconrnlibrary, are you sure about that FSI tax? You may want to verify that by consulting a proper tax agent.
@mohdyaseenshaikdawood38014 ай бұрын
there isn't such plan to introduce yet.
@Falconlibrary4 ай бұрын
@@michaelhooi2856 The agent confirmed it but you can Google "foreign source income tax Malaysia". I'm not here to encourage, discourage, or convince anybody. It was originally supposed to tax effect in 2022 and has been delayed to 2026. It might be a flat tax of 3%, which is low, as Taylor says. The Malaysian government seems to shift policies a lot, which makes me nervous. Anyway, I will unsubscribe from the channel and leave you guys in peace.

If you need to live and work in Malaysia but must live with the discriminatory practices, you will have different views. When you do not need to work, you are not affected by all the policies.

@@MarinaLaroche If you do not need to work in Malaysia, you are immune from the problems locals must face, so you have different views. That is what I am saying. So all is rosy for you. You do not even know they have tail lights cause they are too far ahead.
@nutzhazel4 ай бұрын
@@MarinaLarocheWhat he meant is since Malaysia is economically controlled by the Chinese, the local majority rarely have a chance to work with their companies as they would discriminate by preferring their own race over other, and even advertised so openly with "Chinese person only" or "Mandarin speaking only" in recruitment ads. And even if they do hire outside their race, the starting salary will be very different than what they will pay to their own people, with excuses like "lazy Malays", "stupid Malays" etc. Yes discrimination and racism is real in Malaysia. This is what separates Malaysian/Singaporean Chinese with other Chinese around the world, their race superiority complex.
