Great interview thanks. I have just returned to NZ after one month in Penang. Penang ticks all the boxes for me. The people are great, food fantastic and cheap. I also do the Dentist in Penang because the cost in NZ is obscene. I have been going to Penang for a month each year. Next year will look at three months. Keep smiling, Penang is my happy place also.

Hi Jill from a Kiwi retired in Thailand. I have visited Penang and loved it. The people and food a great too. I moved from New Zealand to Thailand at the age of 65 Been here a few years now and have no regrets. I shudder when I look at our beautiful NZ and see what has happened. I can understand your feelings about where you are now. I wish you every happiness in your retirement.

With the exception of a few Americans, British, and Australians, I rarely know that there are New Zealanders that choose to live here also. I believe as we become older, we learn to tolerate being alone ourselves more. Thanks to IT, we no longer experience isolation. We can still communicate with the outside world for free, watch whatever we want to watch anytime we like, and do whatever we want alone and without interruption. Living abroad in those times may have seemed very unusual because it was difficult to obtain our native goods, but now still buy durian even if you reside in the UK. Therefore, if you're not too picky and easily adapted, there are already no boundaries in terms of the standard of living around the world. I sincerely hope that you and Jill will enjoy your time here for many more years to come.

Nice to see an older (not trying to be rude) lady letting her hair go naturally gray/platinum/white. My long-term GF ditched the typical red--dye-in-a-bottle years ago, and continues to get compliments about her platinum hair every week. She and I are both 60+.

Another great video Taylor! Maybe not specifics, but I would have loved to hear about her apartment, how much she pays for rent and how hard was it to find her place(s) in her 8 years in Penang. Unfortunately, you are in KL but I would love some reviews on some of Penang's condo developments. Maybe some of these developments could hire you to do walk-throughs if they have vacant units that just need a little exposure.

Honestly NZ has got to be one of the most beautiful places on earth but unfortunately it's so expensive. I'm aiming for a SE Asia retirement at 50 that's the goal. In order for me to retire in Canada or NZ I'd have to work till 65+ EASY and my quality of retirement would be no better. Who wants to work all those extra years?!

Australiahas becomeunlivable for people on a pension especiallyif you are renting. Unfortunately the very high increase in the MM2H means they no longer qualify. Jill is in luck, Penang is going to start LRT construction end of this year and one of the lines cover Tanjung Tokong-Gurney-Pykett(Burmah Road).

@@jilltozer1918Sorry, two more questions: 1. How much do you pay for your apartment? Andrew showed us his KL apartment ($420) which I thought it would be a lot more. I have a smaller budget. 2. You mentioned that there are great quality dental care there. Can you recommend a dentist? I will be visiting Penang in January. Thanks so much.

The visa I have is called MM2H but they have recently changed the rules and upped the requirements to a ridiculous level. We are waiting hoping they reverse the changes as very few people are coming to retire now.

Great interview. I need figures. Does Jill draw on a New Zealand or Canadian pension? Where does her income from? What are the costs? Rent , monthly costs etc? Can we please have an update! Thank you. Love from New Zealand 🇳🇿

I believe Jill lives on investments. She doesn’t draw a New Zealand pension. Look at my cost of living video for costs here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIXHd5iZgdmSfpYsi=YV9KBQLNZSbxOBaa

I don’t draw a pension from NZ or Canada. I have to be living in Nz for 6 months before I can apply, so I am just living on interest on investments. It’s a small amount but I can live on it here and am better off doing that than living in NZ even on the full pension. My rent is about $700NZ per month (3 bedroom), electricity between $15 and $70 (if my 2 spare rooms have visitors), internet is about $50 per month, phone data about $10NZ per month and food is cheap.

Taylor, you need to get up from your comfort zone and travel around this region given the inexpensive Air Asia flights. One thing I can assure you is that you'll feel the warm hospitality immediately upon returning to KL after you visited those countries e.g. Hoi An Vietnam, India, Cambodia, Laos, Bali.

I don't know what ministers in the Malaysian government earn but to expect foreigners to have at least RM1 Million savings (GBP200,000) together with liquid assets of RM1.5 Million (GBP300,000) to qualify for the MM2H programme is outrageous. It seems the "ordinary" retiree (like myself) can forget all about retiring to Malaysia.

Yes they changed the rules to that a couple of years ago. And since they have had very few applicants, because it is way too expensive. There is talk that it may change back to what it was when we applied, or close to it. Here’s hoping!!

Oh well. I think even before the change, Malaysia has always been for a little wee well off retirees. Those on meagre pensions prefer the rest of SEA: Ph, Thailand, Vietnam and even Cambodia.
