It is fantastic how the face comes to life after you paint the hair and the scarf. Before the colors of the face, alone, looks out of place. But after you add the surrounding areas, everything comes together and “enrich” each other in a fantastic way. It is really a lesson! Thx for that!

As I watched this video in awe and, realised that, after witnessing an artist who's journey and strivings for perfectionist abilities, it reminds me of me! But, way beyond my creations. One thing struck me as I admired the painting being demonstrated and, that was, a thing that distracted me to analyse more, your art form of spoken words. Your clarity and perfection in the way you convey your speaking. All the way through you never hesitate nor waffle. You never throw in bridging words or noises. You are not just a modern day Master like Da Vinci in painting, you are a master of the spoken words. Unbelievable and a privelege to come across someone so unique as you.

Having invested in this video, it is one that I will watch over and over again. Andrew teaches in a no nonsense practical way. There are two painting sessions included for each of the two models, and the entire painting process is covered thoroughly from composition, sketching, block-in, modelling, to finishing touches. He discusses colour palette choices, colour mixing in detail, and achieving colour harmony with a limited palette. Starting with the end in mind, breaking down the complex into sections or phases which really helps me not become overwhelmed, instead absorbing loads of tips, brush techniques, importance of form, controlling textures, ambient light, deepening of shadows, saving the best for last in tonal highlighting. Includes discussion on mediums used. In summary this is brilliant teaching and very good value for money and I am putting these tips into practice with more confidence than before. He also mentions review, making corrections, painting loose and tight. My recommendation is simply this. If you want to learn portrait painting in oils, buy this video! Thanks so much Andrew for sharing your talent. :))

@davidthomas58965 жыл бұрын
It’d be really rad if you came up with something original. I’ve been following your stuff, and it appears most of your work has been reproductions of photographs. Is art the reproduction of photographs? Are your paintings an imitation of real life, or the imitation of photographs that imitate real life? Why paint when the image is already made? Does art stop at technical exercise? 🤷♂️
@AndrewTischlerArt5 жыл бұрын
David, the point is to reduce THIS painting down to a technical exercise to help others with their portraiture. It's just a demonstration of how to paint. The "nuts and bolts" if you will. I did this because there are many folks out there who are hobbyists who do not have the time, means and money to hire and work with models. Sometimes a photograph is all you are given. This is not my preferred method, but it was a conscious choice for this exercise. As for my other paintings, I like to make studies from the field and bring this back to the studio and use these with photographs to create something unique. Perhaps it's time to start voicing your artistic vision to an audience on your channel. The floor is yours. You clearly have a lot to say, and I think if you feel this is not an acceptable way of creating art, go and create something that satisfies your criteria, and please share your process. Whilst I love to help others, my paintings are only supposed to please one person - myself. It's the process I share with others, this is separate. I am trying to scratch the itch within and whilst I don't do that with every painting, I get close at times. I appreciate you taking the time. Thanks for the comment.

It’s an incredibly insightful video at an incredible price! It contains 7.5 hours of jammed packed information. Andrew walks and talks you through every step of his thinking and decision-making process from his conception of the idea, posing and lighting of the subject, working out the composition and value structure in a study, selection of paint colors and materials, all the way through executing the details of final paintings...and much more! I have bought numerous videos, often of shorter duration, from other accomplished artists for double the price with fewer lessons provided.
