@Jim Stepp Freedom of speech has to work both ways. The daily news is, in fact, free to attack her to a degree. Advocating violence, like shouting fire in a crowded theater, is not allowed. Freedom of speech does have some limit. She also is free to defend herself within those same limits. Your criticism of her doesn't hold water. You and I probably agree that non white groups seem overly sensitive about things such as this. I have a hard time seeing any offense in the cartoon. But I have also never been subjected to racial epithets, let alone physical assault, as I walked down the street minding my own business. There is an old saying, don't criticize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. The daily news people were insensitive in their printing of this cartoon.

I remember when I was 7 yrs. old I went w/ my Dad to Look for new home to rent. As working middle class living in the Gold Coast area in Chicago we lost our apt. building to developers. The lady who answered the door said she could not rent to us. I chirped "the Civil Rights Act" just passed and was now law. My Dad shushed me. She informed us that it was only for Black Americans. As a person who ran for state office and supported other Asian American candidates, the "foreigner card" was always played by the opposing candidate claiming I was illegitimate daughter of a despised dictator and pulled precinct worker from their city-wide pool. Irony was I received 38 mainstream endorsements including the Mayor and Chicago's two major newspapers. Publications who did not endorse but rated candidates rated me Highly. Also had Democratic, Independent and Republican support in my district. Andrew Yan is highly qualified, has gumption, sincerity, all-American values and vision. Andrew Yang true to his word and predictions, should be the next Mayor of New York City.

I don't think everything is racism, but I have a pretty good idea something is racist when I experienced or see it. I think many racialized people have that sense of ability. Sadly, this "cartoon" episode on Andrew Yang once again confirm to us that prejudice and racism against Asians is still seen as permissible in Western countries, including the USA. The editor and the cartoonist of that newspaper knew exactly what they're doing when they published that cartoon. It casually played on Asian's stereotype that we will never belong, that othering, that we don't deserve to be treated as equal or as normal human beings. Not all Asians are the same and all races should be treated equally.

Ubi is a bad idea cuz its taxing the middle class and rich just to give some to a middle man redistributor just to give the tax payers back some of their money. I think a better idea with similar results would be giving $1000 to the poor who qualify, and just give everyone else a tax cut.
@realJosephChan3 жыл бұрын
What part of a VAT (value added tax) only taxes the middle/wealthy class? I think you have been fed some propaganda and should realize a percentage based tax coupled with a flat sum of money will ALWAYS benefit the poor more and yet be fair. Everyone pays the same VAT. I.e. You earn 20k a year, you get 12k a year in UBI, your income goes up big You earn 2000k a year, you get 12k a year in UBI, your income doesn't even blink
@bvegannow19363 жыл бұрын
@@realJosephChan im talking about taxes like income and property tax. But maybe they should just get rid of vat so it doesnt get passed down onto the poor. U dont seem to have understood what i said. Under what i suggested, People who make 20k a year and have under 100,000 worth of property wouldnt have to pay taxes like income and property tax, but maybe they would receive some tax money, maybe theyd get 10k a year in tax money if they qualified depending on their situation, so they can afford their needs. People who make 2000k a year would probably be paying income and property tax(includeing under yangs plan- someone has to pay tax if ur going to be giving out tax money), so it would be dumb to tax them just to give some of that money to a middle man redistributor just to give the tax payer back some of their money. It would be smarter to just give all tax payers a tax cut and it would have similar but better results than giving them back some of their tax money. For example if u gave someone with an income of 2000k a year who is likely paying more than 12k a year in property and or income tax, a 12k a year tax cut, it pretty much has the same effect exsept u dont have to spend tax money paying middle men to redistribute their money back to them, so its actually cheaper, faster and less effort with almost the same result, makeing that a better option. Many homeless and very poor people still wouldnt benifit much off just $1000 a month, thats usually not enuf to live off of, so instead of just giving them $1000 a month, id want to make sure they got their needs met. And many welfare recipiants under yangs plan would choose to stay on their benifits instead of get the $1000 a month cuz their benifits are worth more than that.

I love Andrew, he’s the only politician I’ve ever supported financially, racism agains Asians is real, 100%. However, I don’t understand why this cartoon is racist, I’m genuinely trying to understand. People have valid criticisms of him and all politicians gets caricatures with exaggerated features. And technically he’s not born and raised there so some people reject the idea that he’s from there (I live in Austin and it’s the same deal. If you’re not from here, even if you moved 20 years ago, people from here will say you’re not from here, period.) And he specifically has monolids, any illustration of him would have similar eye shapes because that is his eye shape (I also have eyes like this and when I smile my eyes close but I’m latina). I didn’t interpret this cartoon as a racist representation of all Asians, just making fun of him specifically as any candidate gets made fun of by people that don’t like them. I respect that most people see this as racist and so I will support them, I’m just saying I don’t see it. Is it more the combination of the way his eyes were drawn and the fact that white people were calling him a tourist? If it had been other Asians calling him a tourist drawn with a bigger eye shapes would that have been fine? I could see that. I also just think caricatures are all boring and outdated anyway, no one finds them funny.
@lexismith82063 жыл бұрын
The cartoon is racist because Andrew's face is disfigured in the cartoon. Monolids are also commonly used to make fun of the way Asian Americans look. The cartoon portrays Andrew as a crazy tourist who isn't from New York, which is racist to Asian Americans because it portrays them as outcasts of society. Thank you for Andrew, take care. ❤
