That’s precisely the problem, unemployment is being created from automation and many people don’t see this, they just accept it. My niece and 2 of her colleagues lost their job after their bank introduced automated banking.....but the bank said nothing about how much extra money they were making and none of the savings were passed back to their customers. Andrew Yang, I hate to say it, is too young, not white and too smart. Oh! Hang on.....we elected someone similar once before to become President. He turned out damn good!!!!

@sandragray45985 жыл бұрын
Elon Musk put the idea of UBI, relating it to automation,, in the spotlight a couple years or so ago. Mark Zuckerberg quickly followed. Apparently it's an idea that's been bouncing around the tech industry for quite a while. It really wasn't a surprise that he endorsed Yang. I honestly thought Elon Musk was the one who put it into Andrew Yang's head to run as soon as I heard Yang's main policy was UBI. An alternate take on UBI is that it's just crumbs tossed out for the masses to keep them from going all French Revolution on the rich. In other words, it a band-aid that's not going to do much. They throw us their pocket change and we should be okay with their million dollar cars and multiple mansions. It's just enough to keep people distracted from the winners-take-all approach that big tech and other corporations take now and will continue to take in the future. Personally, I don't know that Elon Musk is that forward of a thinker, maybe in dreaming and trying to get things done in tech but not on social issues. I've heard he hasn't necessarily been fair with his workers, possibly anti-union, which makes me question his promotion and support for UBI. Seems the skeptics of it may be right.. Then there was that rant where he called the fellow that went to rescue kids a pedo, and it didn't seem there was a good reason for it. That seems to show some instability. Just one incident that I know of, but still did not look good.
@Fractured6765 жыл бұрын
@@sandragray4598 He was anti some specific thing the Unions were trying to push. It could all be PR talk, so it's really hard to tell. Sometimes Unions are great, sometimes they are terrible. Kind of a gamble. Also don't forget that Elon Musk does not own Tesla. He is a majority shareholder, doesn't give him the entirety of the power. The board has also been trying to push him out for some time. Also Elon Musk has been pushing for everything the world needs, but has failed to do (My personal opinion being capitalism is to blame). Pushing electric cars, trying to bring us to space (If you didn't know, his rockets, and AI are both open source for anyone to view), and trying to give us more efficient both economically and environmentally transportation. He is also one of the leading runners for AI currently, while also being one of very few who are trying to enhance the brain. He may not be the scientist running all the stuff, but he is the guy who is funding, and starting up all these companies that are pushing humankind forward. I look forward to the day when everyone can feel that little extra stress relief, and I assure you all, Andrew is an amazing person face to face. His visit with us was super informal, he just sat with us and talked and explained his policies. Through my work and my bands, I have meet some of my favorite 'rock stars' over the years and it has never been a big deal to me. Seeing Andrew at my door, I was a little star struck. Here's a man that could change the world at my sad little broken down door. He was in no hurry, even though he had an event coming up soon. We joked, laughed, and the way he reached out and touched my mom's shoulder while telling her she has done so well fighting and beating cancer was an amazing thing to see and his praise for me being around and taking care of her through the whole battle every single day for three years now was an incredible feeling. Many out there fighting like we are. Many out there deserve and/or need this more than we do. This little extra bit of cash will allow my mom to be more independent from me which will in turn allow me to begin rebuilding my businesses to where it once was and acquiring some of the equipment I have sold over the years to make ends meet. Mom just got the all clear from cancer again yesterday. Doctor doesn't expect it to come back. So between that news, and Andrew's help for the next 12 months we are feeling pretty damn good about things for the first time in a few years. Thank you, Andrew. Slay at the debates!

*HERE'S THE ANSWER TO "WILL UBI CAUSE INFLATION?"* The US printed $4 Trillion for banks during the bailout (recession of 2008) and there was no inflation in consumer goods. Even though traditional economics says printing money causes inflation, this is funded by a tax which adds no new money into circulation. • In your own life a lot of stuff is getting cheaper and better. (EX: Electronics, Clothing, Cars, Media, Food (for the most part)). • It takes just one company/restaurant to not raise prices once UBI quicks in, and people will continue to consume where its still affordable. • Things actually driving up in price: Housing, Education and Health Care. Those 3 things are not driven by the fact that we have more money to spend. Health Care: Price has gone up b/c of the private insurance investment, opaque pricing and lack of negotiating the price. Education: College price has gone up 250% but has not gotten 2.5x better. Students and families feel like they have no choice but to pay for it, since getting a degree will give you higher employment opportunity. And a lot of the student loans were generated immorally to bank off students. Housing: People feel like they have to live in certain areas to access certain economic opportunities. Reason why housing has gone up in NYC & SF is due to: Local Gov. & Zoning ordinance not allowing for affordable housing.

UBI can be used to replace welfare, Section 8, or whatever. That means less bureaucrats to pay. That means a leaner government which helps pay for UBI too. And if people are making normal market decisions with their money, they'll tend to use it more efficiently. And no one is going to be living comfortably on $1000 a month. There is still lots of incentive to work. And for those that say, "people will just spend it on drugs!", well you're already paying for those people every time they steal your car or break into your house. You pay for them every time they get locked up or end up in the ER. At least with UBI you'll get the homeless and pan handlers off the street.
@OllamhDrab5 жыл бұрын
Well, in this case he' talking about running a skim off of huge corporate profits, yaknow, a penny here, a penny there., so it wouldn't even *have* to affect social services, but basic income's a real good basis for the costs not having to go *up,* at least. And a lot f people not needing to go on it, 'Welfare' barely exists at all, these days, but fewer people would need what's left. What we wouldn't want to see happen is to have absolutely every company utility and say social services agency deciding to grab up the difference between a recipient's previous intake and that 1000 dollars a month. but on the low end of the scale, it would really give the real economy a shot in the arm because everything wouldn't be going out the door to bills and necessitites and some people not able to work enough for corporate standards could be able to find their own economic niches, get any part time jobs available, and make their lives *better* instead of having to limit themselves for fear of losing what stability they *have* from benefits.
@LividImp5 жыл бұрын
@@OllamhDrab I didn't come up with UBI replacing certain social services, it is part and parcel of UBI. And you don't have to tell me about welfare, my mother was on it for a short period of time when my folks split up in the 70s, and more recently my wife and kids were on WIC after I got laid off during the last recession. It wasn't much, but when you're actually worried about having to skip food because you don't have the income, it's important. I am of the opinion that no one in this country should be without some very basic shelter and food staples (rice, beans, oatmeal, a little diary, etc.). Nothing fancy or even comfortable, but survivable. And yes, I do see inflationary pressures and companies/utilities/landlords trying to slice off a portion of that $1000 as a major flaw in UBI, and I am not sure how it can be solved. I am hoping for answers from people smarter than myself.

@Johnny Fishfingers Except that no state can pay 6 dollars an hour legally and many have already raised their minimum wage past that, plus UBI is like a 6 dollar raise. It isn't legal to pay that little and that's not going to change. I get that he does not want to raise the minimum wage on the federal level but again this is like a huge raise anyways and we can still continue to move up wages in the future. He wouldn't be president forever so even if he didn't budge on that that would be possible. Besides, we know that large corporations can afford to pay more than the minimum wage and most of them already do, but that's not necessarily true for small business owners. The margins are small for them and a lot of small businesses will go out of business or work their worker less hours thus basically offsetting the minimum wage. If someone works 40 hours on 7.25 an hour for me and then the minimum wage raises to 15 an hour I can just have part timers that work 20 hours a week I can just work more and only have part timers and only actually end up paying them slightly more. Many jobs will be gone and most of those are jobs from large corporations. St least with UBI the people will get a piece that and the large corporations will pay more than they did before. If anything raising the minimum wage will make them want to speed up the automation process even more.

That's all great and all but correct me if i am wrong but the population of united states is 330 million. If we gave every person only 1000 dollars not even a month just a 1 time payment. That is 330 billion dollars. He wants to do this a month (1 trillion dollars after 3 months) and i am a left leaning moderate and think we need more social programs in America and socialism is not an inherently bad thing. However this is prolly the worst kind of socialism. I don't want to sound like a republican because they say this talking point so much it is crying wolf syndrome but this time it would be true. Even if we cut every program the government pays for even military funding to 0 we still could not afford this a year. I am sure yang is a great guy but this is just Trumps Wall or Obamas Gitmo (Fun fact my picture you see is me serving in Gitmo when obama ran and won the presidency I knew he would never close us down because we did more than detain accused terrorists). All Yang ever seems to talk about is standing next to Biden so he is noticed and this 1k idea which is just not feasible at all to get noticed at all. Warren Sanders Harris even Mayor Pete seem to be much better candidates with rationale ideas. I am not trying to be mean just realistic. @AnalyticsHouse5 жыл бұрын
Dildonion a few things. 1. Not all Americans qualify, only adults, only those not incarcerated. Also it’s opt in and doesn’t stack with certain existing welfare programs like food stamps, housing assistance, etc. so the real monthly number is much lower. 2. Majority is paid for by VAT, which is half of the European level. This makes it harder for corporations to find tax loopholes since it occurs at each step of the production chain. So in reality this is a redistribution of wealth from the top most profitable corporations to all citizens in the bottom 95% of wealth. 3. You may think this redistribution is too drastic but not there has been a worrying trend for some time now, corporate profits as a percentage of GDP was 5% in the 1970s and is 10% today. In large part because large corporations are becoming more efficient. I’ll use manufacturing as an example. The number of manufacturing employees is half of what existed in the 70s but manufacturing productivity is at an all time high. This is due entirely to automation which enriches the owners of manufacturing firms but hurts those laid off. This trend will continue us as self driving cars and human voice AI take over transportation and call center industries. Corporation profits as a percentage of GDP will continue to soar, leaving less of the economic pie for US workers. So in effect, this is a slight reversal of that trend because companies that hire the best out of ivy leagues are only going to accelerate their efficiency in labor automation while the common citizen will struggle more and more to find employment for their labor.
