I use the most fair approach. No prepayments. You get a free trial class which is an online class with my current students. If you like it, you enroll. But still no payments in advance. You will pay only after you start the course and you can do it during the first week of a month. Not in advance. Also we have monthly payments. So you don't pay for the whole course. I will be proving that it's the top quality education class by class to keep you enrolled in. 99% of students finish all 9 months of the course. I've been doing it like that for 8 years in a row. Get the Free Trial class - it's a fair approach! In this comment section I reply to those comments and specify the schedule of the commenter. So if you attend your free trial class with this group you can ask this guy for opinion in person. so much truth in this video. After revisiting old static mixes from my early teen years, prior to learning engineering, i noticed they were pretty good for not having plugins back then. It all made me realize how much we're being sold to the "magic bullet" plugins nowadays. Know/learn the tools u have and make the most out of them, kuz at the end of the day music has to move you and nobody cares what you used on that snare or vocal when they hear your music out there.

@@AndrewZeleno1 because you said people are very worried about room correction eq software and all of that, but people like serban and john say they've never even measured the rooms they work in, and they make chart topping mixes.
@AndrewZeleno13 жыл бұрын
I see you say by this that room doesn't matter. And in some nuances I can agree with that. But it's totally not the point of what I say in the video. I said you need to set up a studio properly to control the length of the room reverb and to avoid standing waves. And I show why and what flaws acoustics correction tools have. I never said it doesn't matter what room you have. All good man. You just shared that some guys don't care about their room. It's ok. I just don't want your comment to sound like it's a reflection to what I said it the video. I actually suggested to do opposite. To know your room and understand if you really can fix it with some tools or not.
@RipleySterling3 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewZeleno1 I get the misunderstanding I had there. I'm don't mean to say the room doesn't matter, or that they're saying the room doesn't matter, as i said in my original comment they're still in very well designed studios (built into a house!), just that they haven't used any software to "flatten" or measure their studios, and it doesn't concern them as much as the marketing of the plugins designed for it want people to think we should be concerned about, like you said. it's just a lot of marketing telling people the software will fix all their problems, but in reality it might not!

Hi Andrew thanks for the videos. Can you please explain why you say the software that increases the volume of the frequencies that go through phase cancellation will not be effective? From my understanding the phase cancellation is not complete but partial. So if you were to boost the volume of the frequency that is experiencing the phase cancellation yes there will be a proportional increase in phase cancellation but the overall volume of that frequency is boosted to compensate for this cancellation. Surely your logic only applies when a frequency is completely cancelled out. If there was complete phase cancellation we would not here that frequency at all.
@AndrewZeleno13 жыл бұрын
Even in partial cancellations positions you increase the amplitude by the plugin but the same waveform goes back with increased amplitude as well.

I agree. The sense of fantasy in the DAWsphere is amazing and disturbing. Sadly it seems to be getting worse, not better. People seem more interested in if your song used an 1176 clone than if the song is interesting in and of itself. Sure the 1176 was on "everything" for a while (apparently based on people selling clones) but that doesn't mean it was the reason that those songs were good. The 1176 didn't make them good songs. The songwriter, arranger, performers, recording and mixing engineers, and record producers were what made the great songs great. The 1176 was just there. If there was something else (like a ReaComp) that is what would have been all over those records.

It's like in guitar music nowadays. People don't appreciate songs. They are interested what guitar was used. And if the price of this guitar justifies its quality :) But hopefully we will change it.

These ugly truths can just be overcome with common sense. Yes, a lot of beginners will fall into these traps but once you get going and get more experience, common sense will take over and you will be immune to these marketing tricks. Of course that also depends on your talent level and how well you start understanding how everything works.

@@AndrewZeleno1 I'm just saying after a while and once you learn about what's out there, your common sense kicks in and you start having your own style and just take techniques that the pros use as guidelines and not hard rules.

I understand what you are saying. The problem is the majority still go "this legendary tool was used on countless platinum albums" or "The magic of this tool makes the whole difference". You can read all these statements on countless plugin promotions said by the most know audio engineers and in their own interviews. They don't go "use critical thinking and common sense and forget about hype".

i agree with you on most points, but i think the ssl native eq adds SOME saturation, just by messing around with the input volume, with the comp and eq passively engaged. but i agree with you, it's very clean overall. the ssl native is a 9000 emulation, though, which is cleaner anyway. in my opinion, the best ssl 4000 emulation, to date, is the cla mixhub, which has the separate line and mic preamps, just like the uad, but also adds saturation in every additional module, like brainworx, including the out fader, again, like uad. additionally, adjusting any knob, in any module, even if passively - meaning not actively affecting sound - changes tone, which is what it should do - here, again, similar to brainworx. so it's got what's missing in either. the fader saturation thing actually bugs me a little bit, cause i would like a clean out adjustment. but it sounds stellar, overall. and it's got some nifty features like soloing eq bands, the width of stereo tracks, and the bucket option - which could still be improved, though, in terms of controls. the only thing missing is some channel tolerance technology, to make it as close to a console as possible. and it gulps up cpu like it hates it. but, at least, you know why. all these strips that you can add 200 of, in one project, have to compromise somewhere.

It's not my opinion it's a fact that Native 2 doesn't add any harmonics. I measured it. As you say if you play with the compressor it adds some harmonics. It's because its a nature of any compressor to boost harmonics. Mixhub is far from SSL sound. One of the farthest actually :) But who cares. If you get needed results with i, good for you. Cheers man!
@Tryggvasson3 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewZeleno1 i don't have the 2, my findings were based on the 1. i did some testing, and i agree with you, and don't, at the same time. the native channel does adds harmonics, and quite a few of them, but you're right, they're not from the input, which is just a trim, but from the compressor. since i always keep everything engaged on the channel strip, for a more pronounced vibe, i always hear those. and i'm happy my ears didn't cheat on me. as for the mixhub, i think you're wrong. i've analyzed about 5-6 ssl channels/pres, and here's what i found - quite a few surprises. since the native doesn't have a preamp and only adds harmonics in the compressor, and the rest of the emulations were more or less preamp emulations (maybe with a transformer thrown in, faders, etc., who knows), the only direct comparison i could make was between bx 4000e and mixhub. first of all, among all emulations, no two looked even remotely the same :), but the interesting part is that they all convey that vibe, which is great, and, finally, is the idea. as for the bx - mixhub shootout, i was surprised to find a few differences to my initial impression, technically, but still confirming it, in the end, musically. first of all, both the dynamics and eq modules on the mixhub add harmonics, as i thought - but they're setting dependent - so the compressor doesn't add anything at a 1:1 ratio, and it progressively adds more and more as you increase the ration EVEN IF the signal is not actually compressed, while the eq increases the 1st and 2nd octave harmonics of the selected frequency, in relation to the gain setting, while leaving the others mostly unchanged. since my default ratio is 2:1 i could hear those harmonics, even with no compression applied, but i was surprised to find no harmonics were added at a 1:1 ratio. the bx's modules add harmonics, too - the eq more than the dynamics - but statically, regardless of settings, from what i've seen - i haven't insisted on that. so, to me, mixhub acts more naturally. the brainworx is a lot noisier - for the -90 db default setting - around -105 at 20k, against mixhub's around -128, so mixhub is a lot cleaner. of course, you can adjust the noise level on the bx. the noise curve on the mixhub is pretty flat, with bumps around 50 and 1100 hz, and going up from around 4k (about 6 db increase to 20k). the curve on the brainworx is a linear boost of the treble, like a tilt eq, and a lot steeper (about 12 db increase from 4k to 20k). the saturation is a lot more complex and balanced on the mixhub, as opposed to the bx, which only has a few harmonics, pretty unbalanced, and very pronounced - for -60 db thd, which is the default setting in the manual - that is adjustable, too. the fader on the mixhub DOESN'T seem to change the harmonics, to my surprise, but i'll have to look some more into that. I usually adjust it into a tape machine and some summing emulators, so that must have been it, even though i try to match the volumes. that's the analysis. beyond that, i like the bx, it sounds pretty good, still has that smack and that sheen, but it's a bit too transient spikey, for me, it's almost like a cosmetic effect. the transients seem a lot better saturated and balanced on the mixhub, without the mud that you'd get on the bx for a similar effect, and, overall sounds miles above pretty much anything else that i've heard. on the other hand, again, mixhub kills your cpu, whereas bx and the rest are a lot lighter. so, between the sound and the computer, i'd get a more powerful computer - i already have :). the bx has the advantage of the channel variations, which should be implemented on all console emulations, if you ask me, mixhub has the advantage of the bucket, the stereo width and band solo in the eq. finally, i don't think a spectral analysis can reveal all there is to a processor, since there's a lot of stuff, like phase cancellation, crosstalk, etc., which doesn't show up on a macroanalysis like this - you'd have to go at it microscopically, and with more complex signals than a sine wave. for instance, i have compared two tapes, with pretty much the exact noise and harmonics curves - both are my favorites, and now i know why - and they sound very similar, yet not identical. so that's it from me. take care!
@AndrewZeleno13 жыл бұрын
Any compressor bring harmonics up. It doesn't mean Native 2 has analog bus saturation emulation which is there in a real device which I have and I measured a real console too. Your analysis is not a comparison to a real SSL console. As I said in the video these plugins are questionable how close they are to the real device. It wasn't about waht somebody likes. Any plugin may be somebody's favorite tool but it doesn't make it better emulation. So when it comes to SSL emulation, I never mention Mixhub plugin because it's probably one of the farthest from the real thing. Anyway youtube doesn't show me replies so if you reply I will not see it. Anyway, no point to discuss it as the point was they all claim it's a real thing while it's totally not .Plugins are plugins which some similarities to the real device. Not more than that.
