It's just incredible that he a) remembered it nearly a decade later and b) made something that sounded so shit into a magnificent closer of one of the greatest metal albums of all time. This applies to a bunch of the other riffs he recorded in James' (Edit: Ron's) garage in '82.

Four Horsemen is so much more interesting from the songwriting point of view...ok, credits for Dave, no doubt about that, but riffs is one thing...turning those riffs into really interesting songs is a whole different thing. Megadeth was (including in the eighties) more interesting in terms of technical ability, not in terms of songwriting. Period.

Rattlehead was muted because it’s joke that’s also a deep cut! VIC RATTLEHEAD who happens to be Megadeth’s Mascot suffers from the Biblical References of Speak No Evil, See No Evil, and HEAR NO EVIL, and so when it came time to play Rattlehead off of Killing is My Business And Business is Good, Andriy decided to have the song live up to its name and reputation which has everything to do with those Biblical References and Megadeth’s main man..... Although a lot of people like to deny it, Dave's sound mixed with Cliff's is what made up a lot of Kill Em All's vibe, and with Ride they started to go away from that and Kirk and James's artistic visions became to show a bit more, along with Master of Puppets, which was their all too early Magnum Opus, in my opinion. Not to say other albums are bad by them, completely the opposite, but people who are Metallica fanboys like to ignore Dave's contributions. Although that's not to say that Megadeth fans are completely honest with themselves about how much Dave really contributed either

Very hard to say that’s true when their most successful and influential records had none of his songwriting on them.
@TenWolf-wb7pc
@TenWolf-wb7pc 5 жыл бұрын
I said "influential", not "best". Cliff Burton had a huge influence on the group too, and non of his songwriting is on their most successful album (The Black Album). You can hear Dave's influence in songs like Leper Messiah, Frayed Ends Of Sanity, and others. He inspired fast and heavy songwriting on the group, which is why their first album is so much more energetic than anything after it.

@@caseywilhite6029 Lol, if Kirk hadn't joined the band 80 % of us wouldn't be even discussing Metallica... Of course, there would be a respectable underground group of fans. I love the fact that essentially the same riff in Megadeth's version (Hangar18) instantly brings out a "Roswell" atmosphere and Metallica's one (the Call of Ktulu) totally puts music to the album cover. It shows how much of a strong statement-personality both bands have, especially back then. My favorite metal album is 'Ride that LIghtning" that has some Mustaine in it but also marks the beginning of the "mature" Hetfield/Ulrich/Burton composing team era. I somewhere read recently that it's also James' favorite album when he could have easily said "Master ..." for example. So no need for hard feelings from anyone to anyone, this band Vs band scenario is fun at times unless it has a limit, based on logic and respect. Both bands rule and we are fortunate that after something so sad like being kicked out came out a band that's one of the best in the whole genre. Dave could have easily taken the downhill of no return back in the day but this guy is tough.
