Android 13 has been released and it brings a few interesting updates to Google's Pixel devices, and eventually to other phones too. The main thing is more privacy, more customization and more Bluetooth. Take that iOS 16!

Clarification: The "At A Glance" features of the "At A Glance Widget" can be turned off in the widget's customization menu. But that doesn't stop the date from holding my top row of icons hostage. Google, let me have the top row of my home screen for my apps or widgets plz.

The fact that now permissions are more separated is a huge lifesaver for developers, too. Before, we were forced to request location permissions for things that weren't related to actual location, giving us lots of bad reviews from customers thinking that we were harvesting location data. This is great!

@@AlphaSnowLion Well for starters, they removed portrait video from Oneplus 9pro in Android 12 also they removed nightscape video ( a feature someone will never use cause it is crap but it was still cool cause they are trying something new ) then they removed it. They completely changed the simple and great looking camera app interface into Oppo's camera interface. They removed "parallel apps" in Android 12 and many more features that made Oxygen os "OXYGEN OS". To be fair they did add some new features that made things better but it is no use removing OS DEFYING features and adding imitations of other OS features (ahem ahem color OS) and their Oxygen OS 12 was a disaster with a lot of bugs that made me regret purchasing a Oneplus mobile overlooking Samsung's flagship. In my opinion, Oxygen OS 11 peaked so hard that it had to fall down into Oppo's hands to kill itself. Hope the coming Oxygen OS 13 will be bug-free at least, I am not looking forward to the flashy new features they announced, I just want it to be flashy, simple, and light just like how Oxygen OS was.

Quick tip for everyone who wants to use the languages feature but can't find the app they want to change the language off. It works for most apps, but the menu only shows apps that have written in their manifest that they support multiple languages. If you use ADB shell and disable the flag settings_app_locale_opt_in_enabled, it will show all apps and work for most apps (in my experience). Here's the command to do that if you wish (it's safe): adb shell settings put global settings_app_locale_opt_in_enabled false

Having the option to choose language per app is useful for those limited apps that doesn't have your language or missing certain strings, and defaults to English. Something that should have been fixed in Android 7, but apps like Google calendar still defaults to English if it doesn't have a specific string in your language. What I mean is that if language 1 isn't available, it should go to language 2.

It disabled all vibration on my Pixel 4XL and added more unnecessary animations that slow things down. They also need to let us just pick our own colors for Material You, I have a synthwave styled wallpaper, so the one color selection with shades of pinks and blues look nice, but it makes text windows and other things this sickly pastel yellow/orange color. The media player got bigger to show off art while shrinking the buttons (or clumping them closer together), making it more likely to hit a button you didn't wanna press when you simply wanna change songs in the car.

7:06 Hey i remember that from Moto X4, it had a feature from Tempow, called Tempow Audio Profile (eg, TAP), that allows the phone to send Bluetooth audio to 4 completely different devices, whether speakers, headphones, earbuds, etc. It actually works damn well, even today, you can control volume on each device individually, from phone and the Bluetooth device (changing volume will show change on phone too). And audio is synced very well too, so you could make a DiY TWS earbud, using 2 completely different earbuds (Though likely, without the battery case and cool features of today's TWS buds). Moto X4 was also basically the only device that had that multi Bluetooth feature from Tempow, so everyone with a Moto X4 was basically a exclusive early adopter of that cool feature ^^.

From the android we had on the samsung s4 until now, the graphics in android have become more and more simple and black and white! It's a trend many software are following, something I personally don't like For me, it is also important that you have the option to adjust screen coolor, red blue green in a proper way and that you can completely turn off split screen so you don't accidentally press the function with accident. if you need a good video player or music player, there are many good apps. As it is, its a janky patch work system of some peoplue using older blutooth protocols that can only communicat to one or two other devices, or cardo and senas propirtary proximity party chat system. It would be cool to have a proximity party chat via something like auracast, that works seamlessly with all helmet intcoms.

Waiting since 2019 for LC3 plus codec that would allow sub 20ms latency (ideally 5-10ms is the best, like standing 5 meters from the cabinet) in bluetooth audio devices, so I could finally play guitar processed by VST without any wires! Right now I have to use APTX LL (low latency) devices (transmitter + receiver) which have 40ms just for sending audio, plus you have processing chain that could take away 10-20ms, and it's still hard to play sixteenth notes above 120-150BPM A quarter note at 60bpm will last exactly 1 second. Sixteenth would be 250ms (formula for 16th is: 15 / BPM = seconds). 120bpm @ 16th is 125ms. 150bpm @ 16th is 100ms. So if your signal is processed and sent back to you at 50-60ms after you pluck the string, it means you would have trouble playing anything faster than 120-150 BPM, since it would be taking almost half the time of the note.

Things like the app permissions, opt-in notifications (surprised that wasn’t a thing in android already), the shared clipboard, QR code in the quick toggles, home controls while unlocked (note on iOS you can’t control security devices without unlocking the phone), etc. Also it’s weird you only have 8 colour options (was 4) for the Lock Screen clock and other stuff, iOS 16 lets you change to any colour you want and this is a brand new feature this year, it’s weird google didn’t included it on first release as well.

i think it would be cool if being in a "call" didnt automatically tank audio quality across the device. if you try to listen to music or watch a video while something is using the "call" audio channel, the audio gets destroyed to sound like a call. which also probably means that call audio isnt nearly as bad as it sounds, its just being crushed for some reason? this has been a thing since i got my first phone and i never see anyone mention it. i was in a playstation party a few days ago and the stream audio was terrible because the voice chat is categorized as a call.

This is an issue with Bluetooth. The Bluetooth "music" mode uses bandwidth allocated for the microphone, once in call you lose this bandwidth. I think this has been fixed in Bluetooth 5 but to take advantage of this you need both a device and headphones that are Bluetooth 5 compatible

paul already said why it crushes other audio, but call audio is just that bad. basically to save bandwidth back in the day they would cut your audio down to a small range (that voices usually fall into) and then shift it up or down so they could fit multiple calls on one wire. when mobile phones and digital calling came out a lot of it was on the same infrastructure, and if it wasn't they wanted to be compatible with older phones, and now were stuck with low quality calls. this is also why hold music is very hit or miss, as if it goes outside the range its awful, but some companies get music specifically made to be in that range so it sounds ok (usaa is notably good)
