So just for me to get this right. You didn't have a radio with navigation or the Screen with the motor. You bought a used one from another car and the cables and all that for this screen are already existing? Or did you just gave the motor 12v to get the screen up and down and gave the screen 12v and a signal it can display? Because I don't get how you got it connected to the canbus system if the car hasn't got the cables already there even though you don't had this Navi option in your car before

Vet! Hoe lang duurt het voor dat de Pi is opgestart? Het is gwn composite naar de RTI toe? Hoe is de kwaliteit vanaf de bestuurders positie? Welke resolutie draait ie? Hoe heb je de achteruitrij camera aangesloten? En wat gebeurd er als je muziek speelt, en de navigatie begint geluid te geven?

De pi wordt uitgeschakeld met een relais via een ESP32 die zelf wacht totdat de CAN bus stopt en dan in deep sleep gaat 10mA. Als je het slot opent met de afstandsbediening dan gaat de CAN bus al aan en wordt alles wakker. Als je instapt is de pi meestal al opgestart. PAL composite voor zowel camera als pi. De ESP32 schakelt tussen de inputs met een 2de relais. Kwaliteit is best goed omdat het scherm klein is. Kleine text is ook te lezen. Android auto handelt de audio zelf af , Spotify volume wordt tijdelijk verlaagd als maps gaat praten. Net zoals bij normale android.

i saw this and did some digging around, i got a few questions id like to ask. does the esp32 run on its own software to communicate the canbus signals to the raspberry pi? do i need to flash anything onto the esp32? where did u get the canbus wires from, i got a 2001 volvo s60 without the rti build in so im pretty sure its the same as in the demo video, but did u pull the canbus wires from behind the radio? did u compile the openauto software and ran it that way on the raspberry pi? ifso how do i exactly compile the software to work with the raspberry pi? or would the openauto software called "crankshaft' work with this aswell?

If you're just shoving out a 480p stream, I wonder how hard it would be to adapt a Pi Zero to the task instead. it would take up less space and definitely less power. The only differences is that it's a 32-bit instance instead of 64-bit, and only single-core. Aside from that, it has most of the I/O and definitely fits the bill as it looks like only one USB port is needed for audio. At that, this could probably also be done with a first-gen Pi at that since it has onboard audio already, and a composite port.... but the external I/O pinout is different.

Hoi Luuk, Vandaag net een Volvo V70 uit 2004 gekocht en ik ga je setup gebruiken om de infotainment naar deze tijd te brengen. Hoe bedien je google auto? moet je daarvoor een touchscreen hebben? Er zit namelijk een afstandsbediening bij om het RTI scherm te bedienen. Daarnaast denk ik dat jouw stuur bediening moderner is dan die van mij, heeft dit nog gevolgen voor de bediening? Ben benieuwd of mijn project gaat slagen.

Hoi Jochem, in de video maak ik gebruik van de volume / skip knoppen om Android auto te besturen. Echter maak ik momenteel gebruik van de RTI knoppen die normaal standaard zijn gemonteerd. Mijn auto is hiermee niet geleverd maar de stekker zit al binnen het stuur je moet alleen wel een gat maken voor de knoppen. Als je de knoppen al hebt dan uiteraard niet. Het zal vast mogelijjk zijn maar omdat je bouwjaar 2004 is zullen er verschillen zijn met betrekking tot de CAN bus IDs. Dit betekent dat je deze zelf nog moet gaan uitzoeken.

Leuk project, Ik zat al een tijdje te zoeken naar een oplossing voor Android auto/CarPlay voor mijn S80, zonder de originele head unit te vervangen. Direct maar even een RTI van marktplaats gehaald, en wat onderdelen bij ome Ali besteld.

@@luukvideo Het is me inmiddels gelukt om het scherm aan te sturen, even snel gedaan met een arduino ipv ESP32 ivm de logic levels van 5v. Ik vraag me eigenlijk ook af waarom je voor een ESP32 gekozen hebt? Is dit puur omdat je in het project wifi en/of bluetooth wilt gebruiken, of heb je hier een andere reden voor?

@@odouma De ESP32 had ik liggen en de vorige versie had een Bluetooth Android app voor aansturing. Je kan zeker een andere Arduino gebruiken, wel maak ik tegelijk gebruik van twee seriële poorten op de ESP32 en ik weet niet hoe snel bijvoorbeeld een normale Arduino dit allemaal in combinatie met het verwerken van de CAN bus packets aankan.

Ook heeft de ESP32 een ingebouwde CAN bus transceiver die enkel met twee pinnen en een losse mcp2551 chip kan worden gebruikt.

Luuk jonguh, ik ken je niet, maar ik vind je nu al briljant! Ik heb RTI zitten in mijn V70NN uit 2008. Heb wel een ESP32 liggen ergens, nu nog even een PI 3 opsnorren (en wat andere losse componenten) en dan met de handen in het haar gaan bedenken hoe ik dit voor elkaar ga fietsen. Mijn ESP32 heeft bluetooth, is het ook mogelijk om dat als connector te gebruiken met de telefoon of moet het echt USB zijn?

Wow! Dit is echt dé oplossing die ik zocht voor m’n oude RTI. Ik heb in de zomer van 2020 de RTI eruit gehaald, scherm geswitcht voor een touchscreen, raspberry pi eraan gekoppeld, met CarPlay dongle van AliExpress, verbonden met Yatour CD Changer. Heb het er alweer uit gehaald, want het was een heel amateuristisch project en zag er niet zo mooi (OEM) uit. Maar dit is echt wat ik wil. Heb je een tutorial? Goed gedaan man.

Zo ver als ik weet is het niet mogelijk om carplay zelf te implementeren zoals hier gedaan met Openauto. Het scherm ondersteunt composite en RGBS dus als er een product bestaat voor carplay met dit als output is het mogelijk zelf iets te bouwen

Volgens mij beschikt het scherm uit jou Volvo over de zelfde stekker als die van mij net zoals praktisch alle Volvo RTI's. Dus het zou mogelijk zijn. De CAN bus is wel verschillend dus dat zal je dan zelf moeten uitzoeken

No worries. It runs Android Auto. You install the app on your phone plug in the usb and the rest is handled by Android. It uses the Google maps from your phone.

How did you manage to get the CANBUS addresses and their command parameters? I would like to add some behaviors of new vehicles, for example, self-closing mirrors.

You can sniff the normal CAN bus, log the data to a file, collect a list of every unique message ID, Filter them out one by one and start pressing buttons i.e. the steering wheel and see if and what data changes. If you own a VIDA / DICE you can also sniff the commands / activations. Every VIDA command is sent using something like ID 0xFFFE. You can simply replay those commands using your own system.

I just bought V50 (2006) with rti. I think it's the same as youts. i was reading about it i can't plug it into cd changer so is it possible to plug it into custom aux in? I'm not the best with electronics that's why i'm asking.

I've had a few people ask about these Volvo's (v50,S40,c70) and the rti should function the same way. Some have reported composite not working only rgb. About the aux if you have one you can use it. The cd changer method does not work on these radio's

@@bartomiejsuek1370 mine did not come with the rti and steering controls. But you can access them via the can bus just like the other steering buttons. I use volume up down and skip forward for navigation and skip between radio and pi control. You can tell the radio to ignore inputs so that's handy. Stock buttons would be better
