Android Auto™: Getting Started & Best Practices

When it comes to safe driving, focus is key.
With “Android Auto” and the UVO link with Navigation infotainment system, you can stay focused on the road while having access to a variety of smartphone apps.
Android Auto is a phone interface that brings the key features of your Android smartphone to your head unit. -This is also known as phone projection; it means the screen on your Kia is basically mirroring the screen on your smartphone.
You can use it to access navigation, music, the phone’s dialer and more.
Start by downloading the Android Auto app on your smartphone from the Play store.
On your Kia, be sure you are parked before starting. Press the Setup key, and then select Device Connections.
Press the Android Auto button
Ensure “Enable Android Auto” is selected…
Click, Next and then Yes.
Connect your phone via your phone manufacturer’s USB cable and unlock the phone.
Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to the head unit.
Give the phone a minute to sync… then review the Android Auto message on the screen, agree or press OK, in order to use Android Auto.
You’ll then see a message on the phone screen letting you know Android Auto is available to use.
That’s all there is to it!
Once connected, from the Home screen, swipe left and press the Android Auto button and Android Auto will display on the head unit screen.
Once on the Android Auto home screen, you’ll see a map showing your current location and four selections at the bottom - Apps or Home, Music, Notifications and the Microphone.
The microphone icon is where you can get assistance from Google, make a call or send a message.
Press the Home button to display available apps, like Podcast, Pandora and Spotify. Here, you can also use the Phone app to make a call, access Settings and Exit to the UVO link Home screen.
Press the Play Music button to access several choices to play music or audio from your phone:
Radio, Recent Activity, Playlists and Podcasts
Press the Home button again to go back to the Home screen.
Now let’s review some best practices:
Make sure your Android phone is running the 8.0 Oreo operating system, or newer.
Make sure you have the latest versions of apps on your phone, as Android Auto and its related apps are constantly being improved.
Use your phone’s manufacturer’s USB cable.
And adjust your phone’s navigation settings to ensure optimal performance.

Talk to Google…
Get turn-by-turn navigation with Google maps…
And, listen to music.
