Carplay with iphone 15 will only set up through USB apparently and not the high speed cable. Thanks for ppointed this out.

Really helpful video, Can I ask a question? Your introduction mentioned that when connecting to a mobile phone, you can choose to play audio alone. Does this mean that when Bluetooth is connected or Android Auto is connected, the APPS ringtone can still be sounded through the mobile phone? In fact, I just want to listen to SPOTIFY, but I want the notification ringtones of other APPS from the phone. Looking forward to your reply, thanks!

Usually when you're connected over Bluetooth you would get a ringtone with incoming calls but it would be a ringtone set through the screen of the truck and not a custom one you might have on your phone. If the phone is connected over bluetooth it'll play all incoming sounds.. unfortunately can't select which ones you do and don't want playing

You can stream audio over bluetooth no problem but all the apps through CarPlay or Android Auto need to have a USB connection and you need to be in the app for them to work

Hey, you'd need to have a USB cable connected for CarPlay and Android Auto to work. If it's not working, you can try to delete the phone connection from the phone and the phone connection from the vehicle. On the iPhone go to Settings --> General --> CarPlay and delete your vehicle. Then reconnect. If that doesn't work, replace the USB cable with one that supports data transfer

What a shame, I really wish I didn't need to connect my phone via USB to access CarPlay. thank you and a hug

If you want to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in the Niro you have to be connected over USB unfortunately

Pretty sure the USB-C ports in the Niro are for charging only. You'd need a USB-a cable to use CarPlay or Android auto

They are still USB A for CarPlay. I bought a UsB A to USB C cable for my new iPhone ( and new car). These cables are called “CarPlay cables for USB C”. Why USB C is not the connector? Probably a warehouse full of them. At least the input is not Lightning.

Yeah that's frustrating for sure. I've found a lot of manufacturers only have the usb-a port for data with usb-c for charging only which is odd. But I also had a car years ago where the usb port would only charge and wouldn't let me transfer data at all

I appreciate this video, but in our Kia Niro we just bought the map doesn't work. It won't let me use the voice option to get directions while I'm driving, I have to pull over and stop the car to get directions. It also wouldn't work with my iPhone, it kept telling me I had to download a different map program. So I can type in a destination on my phone, but the map app on this screen doesn't show what is on my phone at all. Is this a typical problem?

Hmm that's odd.. Never had an iPhone telling me to download a different map program. So you're connected through CarPlay by connecting a USB cable and it won't let you use navigation at all?

I bought a used 2021 Kia Niro EX(?i - the one with all the bells and whistles) HYBRID (no plug-in) and the salesman forgot to show me how to set up things like this marvelous video (boy, are you fast!), I really appreciate your videos! However, it has a smart key and try as I may, I can't get the "doors" choice on my display on the steering wheel to try to get my power liftgate to work with the fob. Could it be that it's not a feature of my car OR do I just need to install a new battery in the fob to get it to work? I saw on a different video that it can be done directly from the fob itself (outside of the car) but even that didn't work. Any suggestions?

I keep trying to slow down with every new video I shoot.. you should see how fast I used to talk when I first started the channel ;) The liftgate settings are found in the infotainment screen.. If you have the smart liftgate feature it would be under that screen in Settings --> Vehicle Settings --> Door --> Smart Liftgate. Power liftgate would be in the same section of the screen. Just make sure that they're enabled!

Thanks for reply so quickly. Your videos are great. But the one question that no one can answer (not even the salesman) is: if the liftgate option doesn't appear, does it mean I don't have it. My Niro is an EX PREMIUM. There also isn't a button on the liftgate to close it. But the window sticker does say it has SMART KEY.

Thanks! The smart key doesn't mean that you have all the available smart key features, it just means that you at least don't have a traditional key to start. If the liftgate option isn't there and you don't have the button to close than you only have a manual liftgate

If it's this screen there's unfortunately no way to use wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.. only a USB connection

It's Hyundai AutoEver which I'm pretty sure is their own proprietary map system

@@CarsWithSteve If you got the big screen, as far as I know, it's TomTom. Our car dealer told us that's why it doesn't have wireless Android Auto. Because of restrictions from TomTom, but if it's true, I don't know?

​@@Martin_Level47 it's not true. it's because their system can't handle wireless charging and wireless carplay/android auto at the same time due to certain restrictions they have with their infotainment. Nothing to do with which map provider it is.

No way that I know of. The screen doesn't support video playback from the factory and Android Auto and CarPlay don't support playback yet

Might be because there’s no data connection. Does your Niro have the data symbol next to it or is it just a charging icon? If it’s a data icon and it won’t connect it might be the usb cable that needs to be replaced with an Apple Original

Trim levels would be Wind or Wave for the Niro EV 2023 models.. Hybrid is LX, EX, SX etc. Either way if your Kia has this larger 10.25" screen you should have the Kia Connect option there under Setup. But Kia Connect is region specific so depending on where you are in the world it may not be available

Sometimes when I connect my phone via charge cord to the KIA, I don't get the Apple Car Play on the screen.....all the others are there but not Car Play. Why does that happen?

Is the wire frayed or still in good shape? CarPlay typically doesn't auto play but once you're connected over USB it should pull up your Setup screen. Is that not the case for yours? On your iPhone under Settings --> General --> CarPlay is it toggled on or off? If it's off that means CarPlay won't work when the screen is locked. If you toggle that on and it still doesn't work then delete the vehicle connection from the phone's bluetooth settings and the phone connection from the vehicle, then reconnect

I show how to do it in this video.. As long as it's on your phone, connect over USB and it should pop up. If it doesn't, then remove the phone connection from your vehicle and the vehicle connection from your phone's bluetooth and then reconnect over USB. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to replace the USB cable with one that supports data transfer

@@CarsWithSteve so basically what happened was that when I was connecting my charger to my phone it wasn't giving me the option of transport files so basically I noticed that little bar then I pressed it and I went from charging phone to transport files and then it started working correctly cuz usually it pops up in my big screen on my phone and it basically charge phone transfer files and I'll transfer the files but for some reason I was plugging it in and it wasn't giving me that option but basically I press like the battery button and it said transport files charge phone and I pressed it and it did it worked perfectly but thank you for everything

Acabas de usar cables USB-C o USB-C a USB-A? Pocas cosas más para probar... 1. Reinicio de pantalla. Hay un pequeño agujero con un botón entre el control de volumen y el botón Mapa justo debajo de la pantalla. Presione eso y la pantalla debería reiniciarse. 2. Elimine la conexión telefónica del vehículo y la conexión del vehículo de su teléfono. Luego, en tu iPhone, ve a Configuración --> General --> CarPlay y si tu auto está allí, elimínalo. Hmm.. the cable would usually be something that I would recommend. If you have a spare USB cable give that a try but if the car isn't recognizing any USB cables there could be a wiring issue in the USB port

What is the (alleged) logic behind them putting a smaller screen in the base model (as per usual), WIRELESS carplay, and no wireless charging and then putting the bigger screen, WIRED carplay and wireless charging? It makes no sense. If my phone is plugged in to use carplay, I don't need the wireless charger. The wireless carplay is usually the upgraded option and wired is the base system.

I heard rumblings it had something to do with privacy concerns between data agreements for factory navigation and the way data is transferred. Some 2024/2025 Hyundai models now have wireless across the board which means it'll probably be coming to Kia models in the next year or two as well as the interiors get an upgrade

Just a little bit. There are some 2024+ models that have wireless CarPlay/Android Auto now but the tech won't be backwards compatible
