@@davidroberson1962 Well two weeks ago I pulled the 8.4 nav system at a junkyard to upgrade my 4.3 screen. ($200) I mistakenly thought these android units would not be able to handle the integrated climate controls. Then a week ago I ordered a Chinese module for injecting a carplay/android auto video stream into the OEM screen. ($300) - and this is after I've already added an AudioControl module for subwoofer/amp to integrate with OEM head unit, as well as another expensive module that injected a backup cam feed into the OEM head unit. After deliberating I have decided to scratch ALL my plans and ordered one of the units you linked above. I returned the new aliexpress carplay module since it arrived the same day I saw your post. Going to sell all the other modules individually and try to sell the 8.4 OEM Nav screen as well. You definitely saved me money but you may as well have made me money. I'll report back after install - the unit you reviewed shipped today.

update: I've installed the same one as you posted. I'm not fully done with the install as I need to finish troubleshooting a few things before snapping it all back together. Namely the backup camera I already installed isn't working properly. It's showing glitchy black and white image or no image at all. Another issue being that most radio stations don't have the same reception as before, hoping that just requires me wiring one more thing to the harness. I can't seem to get a USB flash drive to connect to the system either. I can tell it will take some tweaking for some stuff but otherwise enjoying the vastly upgraded system compared to the stock 4.3 unit. I noticed the climate control won't switch over to imperial/american units either, but I can live with that.

@@clintonbutler4503 The backup camera is because the power at the backup lights isn't 12v. It won't properly power the camera. You can use a relay hooked to the backup lights and a power wire to the 12v power outlet. I used the power off the radio and the orange signal wire on the rca cable since you don't need it because the canbus signals the radio it is in reverse without it. I just made it always on. It doesn't have lights and I can't imagine it staying on will hurt anything or that it takes any significant amount of power. A flash drive plugged in where? I'm not sure the adapter that makes the factory usb live is for connection. It might just be for power. Did you use the harness for the USB too and try that? I didn't bother attaching it since I don't have any use for that and I never used it on my other radios. It does wifi surprisingly good to update and download songs if that is the goal. I had no issue with the FM. Did you hook the antenna wire up to the adapter and make sure it didn't pull out as you installed the radio? I definitely pulled it out accidentally when I installed it but noticed I did it. I'll admit I only checked a few stations and only because I wanted to make sure I hadn't pulled it out again before I buttoned it up. I only listen to Amazon music and KZbin but I've definitely had some weird power issues due to not having an antenna hooked up in the past. The channels I do listen to locally were all there and clear and I live way out in the mountains where reception isn't great.

@@davidroberson1962 Oh nice, I'd like to have the option of looking at the camera feed even when not in reverse so I'd love to power it somewhere else. I can't remember where I tapped power when I installed it 3+ years ago. It's worked in this configuration with a factory head unit and a separate module (Nav TV UConnect RVC) for injecting the rear camera feed to the screen since then. But I'm willing to accept that it may need a different configuration in order to work with this android unit. I will change my power source and see how that affects things. Thanks for that. I haven't attached the "ANT POWER" wire on the new harness but have plugged the factory antenna up no problem. I don't listen to a ton of radio but enough to want it to work normally. Hoping its just a matter of tapping a 12v power source for that. USB issue is from me hooking up to the USB input coming out from the back of the new unit. It picks up a connection to my phone just fine. I'm still chatting with the seller about this. If I can't use the USB drive to load music, so be it. I'll find another way. But I'd love to be able to read from USB drives for my music library. I'm actually able to use the USB input inside the center console with one of the adapter they provided. I believe it was a 4-pin input to the head unit, and a mini-usb female input which mates with the factory USB mini male port in the dash.

Hey, David! Thanks for the video. It was most helpful, and I used it as a reference. Is there anything OuDi does not cover for you? I have a 2018 Journey SE, and there's not a protocol that covers everything. The BSJ protocol is the only one that has car settings that are handled through radio. The Raise protocol is the only one that has working steering wheel and A/C controls. The OuDi is the only one that correctly supports Fahrenheit units on the A/C screen. Also, the only button remapping that works is on the unit itself. The steering wheel or knob panel button remapping doesn't work at all. What do you think about any of that?

There are multiple ram/storage depending on what you want. This is the 4mb one. It has pretty much immediate response. I can't recall ever waiting for the radio. Please post a video on how to do this when you do your rear view camera. Tag me please. I have a 2018 journey and I tried doing this. I'm stuck. It doesn't even turn on. I did not remove the CD part so I think that's where I messed up.
@davidroberson19627 ай бұрын
You could leave the CD part in there if you unplug it. You need those plugs to make the radio function. If it turns on then you did that. I just took it out to make it less crowded to put it back together. Does the screen turn black when you put it in reverse? Did you set up the canbus options like I did in the video? The camera requires 12v. Dodge doesn't run 12v to the backup lights, so if you hooked it up to that as power it won't work. You have to run power from a 12v source. The orange wire on the backup camera wire(the yellow RCA one with the orange wire) is what I used to power it. I just ran that orange wire for the power on the camera(orange to red) then I ran the ground(black wire on camera) to a screw on the latch for ground. I spliced the other end of the orange wire to the red radio power wire. Though you should probably use the 12v accessory power that is under the CD player(cigarette lighter). It will leave the camera on whenever the car is running but the radio knows when to go into reverse from the canbus signal, so it will work.
@crodr0777 ай бұрын
@davidroberson1962 I did everything as he did on this video except the camera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX2TiZiJedR8sNU. I will try splicing the orange cable to the radio end like you did, and if that doesn't work, then I'll do it like he did to the cigarette lighter.

@@davidroberson1962so I got the camera installed and working. I used the extra USB connection for power since I installed the factory one, I saw no need to have an extra USB cable in the glove box. Now, new issue. When you go into reverse (and even from P to D), the unit shows the camera and lowers the volume. I hate it. I just want it on when in R and with whatever volume I have. Have you found a setting to change that? If you do, please let me know. Oh, another thing. If you have polarized sunglasses, the screen will be black, so now I have to install a polarized screen to cancel it out.
@davidroberson19626 ай бұрын
@@crodr077 I'm glad I could help with the camera. I hadn't looked for it. However, I doubt there is an option to not flip going into drive since that is how all backup cameras work in my experience. I can't say I noticed that though. The volume thing is annoying though. There might be a setting to stop it from changing the volume though and that is what bothers me most. Since it is my wife's car it hasn't bothered me enough to look though. I'll take a look tomorrow and see if I can figure something out. I have seen that option on a head unit before, not this one as far as I looked.
