The unit connectors all went together fine but it's that dreaded drain. Another video says that the 2 pin connector with the red and orange could need pulling apart or changing the 2 wires around. Just put a new battery in and want to solve this before putting the unit back in the car.
@richirich1 Жыл бұрын
Yes you can take it out if you don’t have a need for it. It also helps the unit understand when the lights are on so it can go from dim to bright, but if it’s functioning to your liking you don’t have to use it. However, you will need to confirm that the cause of the drain. If you can take the key out and use a test light to test the wires that are still providing power to the unit while it’s off will pinpoint the cause of the drain.

Try this it works. The head unit receives constant power for memory and presets from the dash side of the harness ( Yellow Wire ). The head unit also receives switched power via the Red Wire. The red wire turns the unit on and off via the key operation. When the unit is shut off, the unit still receives power from the yellow wire. Now !! due to this constant power from the yellow wire, the canbus also receives this constant power . So the unit is live, and also the canbus is live ( Constant ). So, to fix this issue , cut the yellow wire on the canbus and splice it into the red wire on the canbus. What this does is , it stops the canbus from having constant power once the key is turned off. Now, because the yellow wire that is now connected to the red (acc), once the key is inserted and powered up, the red ( acc ) wire provides the yellow canbus wire power to operate. All sorted and no more flat batteries. The moral of the story : 2 units were receiving constant power, and now there is only one. Good luck.

I’m going to give this ago. Just to clarify the red wire will spilt in to two routes basically before it goes into the canbus . One route supplying power for the yellow wire and one route for the red wire?

I have a problem and would be very grateful if you could help me. I bought an xtrons head unit for my Jetta plugged in and it drains my battery let me explain how it’s wired to give you an idea. The yellow wire constant voltage runs from the car to radio, there’s a sub connector with a red and orange wire that connects cars harness to head unit and then goes to canbus. And then there’s the acc wire which is not connected to nothing. Yellow wire and red wire connected to head unit drains my battery. I took out the canbus out overnight thinking it was the one that drains my battery. It still drains my battery. Disconnected red and orange connectors and that cuts voltage to head unit and it stops draining my battery but head unit loses power even though yellow wire is still connected .so with yellow wire still connected but not the red head unit it should still receive voltage and turn in but it does not. It shouldn’t reset anything by doing this. You have a memory wire and fuse that keeps a little power while care is off. You’ll have to check you power wires if not coming on with the key. @richirich18 ай бұрын
Hey how’s it going. I don’t know how new yours is or which model but these things can be finicky. I don’t believe they have an internal battery, as they do have the fuse of the back which is used to keep it active in “sleep mode” to hold some charge while the car is off to keep the memory. Also, you do have a constant source of power which is your ACC and power wire that feeds it power when the key is on and when it’s off usually your yellow and/or red wire. I believe either your car battery is low and not fully charged to 12-14v or there’s an issue with the radio. Might need to factory reset it and also pull it and check the wires make sure none are melted or loosely connected. It could be the radio is going bad, mine in my Tundra the radio portion just stopped working, I hardly listen to radio because I Bluetooth so I don’t worry about it.

This is about a parasitic draw of power when the care is completely turned off. What you are experiencing if the car is off but head unit is on and working is simply you have a bad battery with low voltage. If you leave the lights on white car off or listening to the radio and it draws the battery down then that’s just a bad battery. A good battery can hold charge at around 10.8-11.5 volts continuously without draining down If just sitting with the radio on. If the battery drains overnight with the car off then it could be you have something drawing the battery down and in that case this is the video for you

It's possible. You'll just need to suss out the pin out/wiring diagram for the head unit. I mean for basic operation, all you need is B+, ACC, GND and L/R speaker wires. The (well... my) HU harness has all of these. I've got a 10" Chinese head unit that looks like it came off the same shelf in China as the one in this video (just slightly larger screen), and it never came with a CANBUS device like we see in the video, and hasn't needed it. However I am also having issues where it sometimes doesn't turn on/off with the ignition. ACC wire is currently connected through the CIG lighter circuit which seems to have improved the problem but it still occurs occasionally, usually after a day or two of functioning almost perfectly. Cutting the main yellow B+ wire cuts the power to the unit when it wont turn off by the key. This leads me to believe their is a software bug which is preventing an internal switch from activating/deactivating the internal power (so a software controlled switch isn't getting the memo that you've turned the key off and the software keeps providing power to the unit via the B+ wire). It has to be that. OP, I'm almost willing to bet you were still battling this problem after making this video? What I am finding is you think you have a "win" by changing something and it works, then a few days later, the issue returns with nothing being changed. It's like a time based bug in the software which reappears after you have cut power to the unit and then reconnected it again (resetting the time and date again). My unit also refuses to remember the date and time when I manually input them, but it remembers all my radio stations and other custom settings. Just about ready to explore options to flash the unit with a different OS to be honest.

there r two yellow wires
@richirich16 ай бұрын
There should be 2, one that goes to the main harness and one that runs to the canbus. If you can’t test it with a test light to determine which is hot, just cut it with enough space that you can rewire it back together if it isn’t the correct wire. Trial and error
