Can you please include more documentation/samples in java as well. I am an old man, my brain translating from kotlin to java hurts my head. I cant help it that I am old and will soon be obsolete. I just want to make apps for my kids and also volunteer my old skills for underprivileged people in my community. I dont have energy to learn more new languages.

1.0 hit stable in may 2021 but camera-view is still in alpha which means we can't really use it in production

CameraX looks great. Does CameraX support external USB cameras? If not, is supporting external cameras under consideration?

It's really mind blowing how google don't give the importance this should have. Idk in other countries, but here in Brazil every single person that pays an exorbitant price on a iphone has one single reason= it's better on social media. And everyone else wants an iphone for the same reason but cant buy it. This goes as far as a very spreadout myth here that apple pays Instagram to make the camera bad on Android, most people think that's the case. This matter should be taken more seriously, so much time since the reveal of camerax, it should be already good and running in all apps that use cameras or else not even go up on play store. This should be running and be a minimum requirement for every developer. I'm baffled when I see headlines about dark mode, material UI, and all sort of gimmicky stuff but something basic like a camera working on third party apps runs like a Potato don't get attention at all.

Can cameraX stream video to the web?

I have no idea about programming and stuff... Only thing i want is to turn on my flashlight, at the same times as my camera opened to take a photo. Flashing is a way, but if i should have the lights always on, i can make better photos... I have no idea why this basic thing is something i need to ask with a A52s phone...

@@SolidCoreBlack Devices might be listed in the table due to it being either in our test lab or we have confirmed with OEMs that the devices support CameraX extensions. Please see whether columns of "CameraX lab" or "Extensions support" in the table are checked or not. For Samsung A50, only the "CameraX lab" column is checked. And sorry that Samsung A50s is not in our test lab and we didn't get information from OEM that it supports CameraX extensions. The table is not a real time-updated table. We may check with OEMs and update it periodically. Some new devices (or after ROM update) which are not in the list might support CameraX extensions. Checking the extension availability by CameraX Extensions API will be the most precise way to know whether the device is supported CameraX Extensions or not.

Is this going to finally allow apps like Snapchat and Instagram stream live on the front cameras at a full 30fps in low light, instead of 16 like they do now?

@@skeetsofrage The CameraX Extensions Night mode is majorly to provide the best still images under low-light situations. To achieve this, OEMs might need more time to apply their algorithm to produce the image. If the devices without applying the Night mode effect can only reach 16 FPS in a low light environment, the FPS won't be improved/increased to 30 FPS when OEMs add more calculations to generate better preview images. If OEMs can make the stream reach 30 FPS, I believe they will directly provide it to the end users by default, and no need to enable any type of effect mode.
