No, new EU law that came into effect this year is regarding phones and tablets - they must use USB Type-C.

And that's USB-C everything. The OnePlus charger is USB-A to USB-C, not USB-C to USB-C, but then again, Samsung doesn't include a charger in the box either, which is USB-C. So, who knows if OnePlus will actually switch to USB-C? I doubt it.
@TheFataltrain15 күн бұрын
yes its exactly this. EU law requiring USB C on devices also requires manufacturers not to bundle chargers. So wont see any phones doing this in the EU going forward.
@andyH_England15 күн бұрын
Yes, the EU made two requests: first, only USB-C, which had to be mandated in law as Apple did not want it, and second, chargers would not be included in the box to save on e-waste. The OEMs followed this voluntarily, so there was no need to dictate.

1st of all there are no EU regulations, nice fake news. The only regulation is support USB-C charging. though many brands followed the trend to remove the charger from the box to save cost, smaller box = more value for mass shipping + charger individual sale + sell the phone for full price. Apple did it first so save the envoirement & to say its gonna be cheaper (lmao) 2nd of all if u talk about "Display Mate" or whatever screen rating - idk DXOMark was also given phones a fair & accurate highest rating then. - DisplayMate is such an old forgotten site, i would take the money too if i praise a product with A+++++ rating so they can use it for marketing.

OnePlus are in a great spot to steal people away from Samsung, Google and Apple right now. At least for me, I've been excited to upgrade to the S25 Ultra, but from all the leaks we've gotten, it's just a bit boring. The OP13 has so many great quality of life improvements over the competitors. New battery tech, ultra fast charging, proper IP68 and IP69 rating WITH Aqua Touch 2.0 (you can just use this thing in the shower now). Even small things like extended Bluetooth connectivity that I deal with every day when I walk out to the kitchen and my earbuds disconnect and then I need to wait for them to reconnect. Also the screen has great tech that reduces eye strain compared to all the competitors who don't have this (yet). You said it at the start of your video, it's really the sum of all these little pieces that make it a great phone and why I'm switching from Samsung this year. I know it's more expensive than last years phone, but with it still being $300 or even $400 cheaper than other flagships, it's a no brainer for anyone looking for a change of pace and is bored with the stagnant smartphone industry as a whole.

Samsung User here. Just from watching the other One Plus 13 reviews, the photos look amazing. more the style I've been waiting for as Samsung always has the "mobile phone" look to its pictures - you can never mistake them for DSLR images. The OP 13 design is great. I hate the square brick of a S24 Ultra design. The price is the same as a Samsung base model after discounts/promo, and some markets will get the charger, a case and an applied screen protector on the phone. Personally, I love curved screens and smaller phones - up to 6.5". Considering the above, this is quite a harsh review - why is that that when Samsung or Apple decide to not include accessories and charge a fortune for them separately, its ok, but when alternate brands do anything different, they're portrayed negatively!? Samsung is still charging at 25W - yes the Ultra says 45W but its only about 10 min less, and the iPhone 16 still has 60 Hz refresh rate in 2025! One UI has great features, but can get really slow and laggy at times - as soon as you use another device, you'll realize how fast a different OS can be!

IMO OnePlus 13 is in most aspects better phone than OnePlus 12. It's main disadvantage for me compared to OP12 is flatter screen. It's a large phone and flat screen combined with slimmer body and slippery back make it way more uncomfortable to hold than OP12. Increased price and no included charger is for sure a problem in Europe. Both OP 11 and OP 12 could be called "best phone under 1000 €", but now the official starting price is 1049 €, which rises it above the magic 1000 € limit. But I had some physical damage from dropping it, and when I saw this come out I figured this was my chance. But I could have easily gotten another few years out of that phone. I can't say I've even noticed a performance decline. But getting on the 13, it's noticeably faster. And not just a little noticeable, but very noticeable. And then there's just lots of nice little features that I'm finding day-to-day. I don't understand these reviews. These are viewers focus on things like weird subtle aesthetic design choices. I don't care about the exact curvature of the bevel. I'm not sitting there staring at the camera bump deciding how I feel about it. I think this is an awesome looking phone,but that's not what interests me. That said, I don't get the criticisms. I got the wood grain case and I think it looks really elegant and slick and I'd be happy to carry this around for the next 5 years unless it breaks. The OnePlus 12, on the other hand, seem somewhat lackluster to me. I got the feeling they were focusing too hard on value to keep the price point low. I appreciate that, but then drop a pro version. Give us people who don't want to be on samsung, google, or apple another option. And for me it comes down to a phone with killer battery, killer performance, a killer screen, and one that I don't have to worry if I drop it in the sink while I'm doing dishes. I mean with this one I could probably put it right through the dishwasher and it would be fine, and hey sometimes overkill is the right answer. And when it comes to water protection I think that's one of those times. Your phone is an expensive piece of kit after all.

Loads of improvements from the 12 you didnt mention. Aqua touch, glove mode, way better haptics, ip68 and ip69 and a better screen. I own the op12, the colour science is awesome. I think the 13 has a poor camera experience as they binned the dedicated colour identifier sensor present in the 11 and 12 that collected colour data for processing and its not a gimmick, it works.

Performance is important and keeps us ahead with new apps etc. The thing you totally forgot to mention is the IP69 rating. This is extremely important as phone damage is highly likely if you hold on to a phone for a couple of years. In addition the wireless charging option is there too. Your review didn't really cover some important consumer needs.

I'm a part of a couple Oneplus Facebook groups in my country, and one thing that hardly reported is that since the OP 8 series, the samsung oled screens have been notorious for screen getting "green lines" after 2 years or so. Which is understandable why its not reported, since by year 2 of any phone life cycle, there's not much reviewers doing "x phone after x years" haha. The last OP phone I've seen getting oled green lines was the OP 11, hopefully the 12 doesnt follow, cause OP phones are really great! I have an 8t myself, it ran beautifully, until green lines started appearing by its 2nd year hahaha!
@PKD14514 күн бұрын

@PKD145 happy for you then, genuinely. But the Facebook grp I'm part of regularly gets post from users that are still experiencing this. Just cause it hasn't happened to you or a majority of users, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And it's just sad cause many of the people posting had saved and paid their hard earned money for the phone, expecting at least 3 to 5yrs of a functioning phone,only to break down at the 2 yr mark.

I don't see any paradox. Is it that you felt the OnePlus 12 was better positioned among its competitors? Just wait until the competition comes out. They'll be priced even higher and the OnePlus 13 will be exactly where the OnePlus 12 was by comparison. Also the charger cant be included, its considered e-waste by EU laws as most people have a charger already, like you with the OnePlus 12 charger. Of course, in a perfect world that should mean the price can be about 20 to 30 euros lower as well, allowing those that need a charger to buy it separately... If only..
@eoin459714 күн бұрын
The OV64b is better for long range zoom but the LYT600 is a bit better for lowlight at the default 3x. Basically the LYT600 uses 2*2ocl which is not good for cropped digital zoom whereas I believe the OV64b didn't so it's a better option for hybrid zoom. The Oneplus 13 is still using a periscope but it's OPPO'S new prism design that takes up less space. I think the Oneplus 12 is still a good option though in markets where it's still available.

OnePlus desperately needs new designers imo. the conrners aren't round enough like pre-pixel 9 era pixel phones which are psychologically aggressive. the camera is off-centered without being anchored to any edge so it only looks weird (its just there to avoid a whole internal redesign) and don't even get me started on oxygen OS these days. I'm gonna stick to my OnePlus 9 for another year since the new silicone carbon batteries and snapdragon processors made previous phones irrelevant and also I can't live without the alert slider. OnePlus, fix your design, I need a phone.
