I just love how great Andy is at telling stories. He's so good at getting the right message to come through. Such a cool dude. There's no denying that he is an amazing skater, but he's such an interesting guy aside from that. The amount of knowledge he can spew out is awesome. There's usually a cool history lesson in there. 🤙🏻

Boomerang was for hunting, and the shape allow it to have a heavy blunt and you didn't need to cut down a entire tree into discs to make it. People forget that childhood as we understand it is actually quite a recent thing, kids was trained to become strong and capable adults by the time they started to grow adult teeth by age 7. Basically when the Mother stopped being their nanny. Only rich kids experienced what we experience today back then.

In relation to why some places are the only ones to have smooth concrete everywhere is also partly due to the fact that California and other places like it don't get as much rain/snow/ice. Water is amazing at destroying concrete, especially if the ater freezes. It gets into the cracks, then expands and contracts which just makes them bigger. In the north east US, all it takes is a single snow-heavy winter to completely destroy the roads and create massive potholes in less than 3-4 months. It's impossible to keep up with.

My family and friends used to hang out with Pierre at the Huntington Beach Pier right in front of an arcade that isn’t there anymore, from 88-91, and he just disappeared. We all wondered what happened to him. We knew he started Etnies. You have to remember skating(skateboarding) came from surfing. Edgers came from a surfing maneuver called an “off the lip aka lip bash.” IIRC aerials in surfing came after skating, because of pools. Grinds (50/50’s) are “floaters,” in surfing. Anywho, if you see Pierre, tell him Chuck and Chenoa said hi, if he remembers us.

Ya I totally remember when those designs came out! I was a skate rat in the mid eighties, still roll around here and there. Man have things changed. Back then skating wasn't cool at all (at least in my home town) we use to get bullied by the jocks and metalheads...it was so diff...everyone was in there "group" sort of like the movie "the outsiders". If a guy was a metalhead he hated punks and skaters...then it started to merge and cross over...now I see rippers in these vids even in metal head like clothes and style. I still have all my old Minor Threat and Bad Brains records...hardcore and skate bands got us through the hardtimes and keep the stoke alive. We were spoiled growing up with the original Bones Brigade vids, to many to mention, Blender (love his art), Tod Swank, Salba, then with the North Van crew coming up, Sluggo, Danny Way and snowboarding was booming then to in the 1990's. The memories, loved the skate scene in Vancouver once I move out there, China Creek bowls, Whistler park, miss skating those lines. Anyhow, great seeing what the young rippers are pulling off. Amazing stuff guys! Thanks for honoring the past Andy! And ya most of us were wearing Cons for sure!

Homeless but not homieless. That's a big difference. I was without an address for a year in Venice, living out of my car and couch surfing til I found a permanent place. I thought I was homeless, but years later a friend explained that I was never "really" homeless because I had friends looking out for me.

The thing that made the skateboard wasn't the board and it wasn't the wheels. It was the roller skate truck. The ability to lean and turn is what makes the skateboard different from bikes, scooters, wagons and everything else. It's easy to just attach a wheel it's different to be able to lean and turn. That's why they were invented later.
@dadboard2 жыл бұрын
Hence the name “skate-board” a skate + a board. That’s why it’s funny when skaters throw shade at roller skaters, without them we wouldn’t be here.

I can explain, the original boomerangs were curved clubs for hunting, digging and fighting that did not return. Returning bookerangs likely predated modern frisbees made of plastic , but sailing a dish/disk back and forth likely predated sport boomerangs like everything in life it is purely semantics

Vulnerably housed , is the legal term used here in the UK. The boomerang was invented and used by Aboriginal’s to hunt . If it didn’t hit the target it would come back for another throw. Necessity is the mother of invention.

So with the boomerang / Frisbee thing. It's only weird when you view it from the perspective of the modern-day entertainment boomerang. The original purpose 20,000 years ago was for hunting & not designed to return to the thrower. And while the official purpose use Frisbee wasn't made until the 1950's, it seems unreasonable to think individual people throughout time never discovered you could throw flat discs back & forth. Hell even the Frisbee Co was originally a pie company that got the idea because people were throwing their pie plates back & forth.
