Was a brill song to write as a young player , I read the chords written out , slight jazzy sound chords amazingly put together. It shows he had talent right from the beginning of his career , Not easy to play

This is a really beautiful song about booze's terrifying grip. If you really listen it's about a man in despair and I can relate to that - my old fellas boozing was a huge problem when we were kids when this was in the charts. And all of my major 'asshole' moments as an adult have usually involved heavy drinking.
