Such a cool guy, great song writer and wrote fantastic bass lines. So sad that Free didn't achieve the global game they so deserved.....had they had the right management they would have .....Bad Company that should have been. God bless ya Andy

agreed he is no Paul Rodgers - but neither is anyone else except Paul Rodgers - what disappoints me is that nobody has yet managed to capture this man's life moment on film - you usually get a didn't know TV producer or camera shifter that concentrates on Kossof not realising that the magic at the moment is going on with the bass or for instance here where the sound mixer has either had a bad day or i don't know - that bass shouldn't be struggling to be heard, this is THE world's best bass guitar solo - the free live version is still the best there is.

Makes me feel sad watching this stuff when you have seen the original line up live several times and the power of Paul Roger's voice playing against Koss all a bit sad watching this. As Paul said in one of his interviews "Koss was his guitar soul mate"

To Joe Irvine, hope you enjoy the gig, August 4th, try to remember Andy doesn't really wish to recreate the old days of 40 plus years ago, only we want him to. His aim is to promote Tobi in a proper manner for a lasting career (with a slight nod to Andy's past for OUR benefit) rather than the current method of record company promotion of a new artist for about 6-12 months and if you don't have a million seller then "Goodbye." Regards.

This isn't bad. But I think Paul Rodgers is such a brilliant vocalist that to do a song he's known for is a very brave act.

I was at college in the early sixties with Chris Spedding, we had a college band . I saw his at Ronnie Scotts in the early seventies with Gary Burton on vibes, and Jack Bruce on bass. The concert was stopped unexpectedly when Burton walked over to Spedding and fucked him off the stage for being stoned. Before that happened, Spedding was out of his depth anyway, Burton was playing stuff from his album with Keith Jarrett, and it was too difficult for Spedding to get his stoned head around. Since that time, I have only looked at Spedding with pity, he was not that good, he was good looking, that was his problem, VANITY.

Great story ! The best I can offer, on a somewhat lower level : - Twenty or more years back Chuck Berry was playing Liverpool with a local backup band. At some point the bassist got a bit carried away and threw in a couple of notes of his own. Chuck duckwalked over to his amp and unplugged his bass, leaving him to play the rest of the gig in silence.

I dig what you pointed out regarding Andy wishing to promote Toby, However; If that's the case, then maybe they should've done a different song, I'm with Joe Irvine's post.

Loved' FREE', and really pleased that Andy Fraser has survived all of his 'recent' serious health problems - but honestly think that his / his bands rendition of this classic Free / Paul Rodgers Classic is absolutely crap !!!! Going to his gig this Sunday (4th Aug 2013) and - before I listened to this KZbin clip - was really looking forward to it !!!! Now ....... the jury is out !!!???

Having started on bass in 1966 and seen Free, Peace, Toby and possibly ( ! ) Sharks, I think I can safely throw in a comment at this point. All the other comments here say " Andy Fraser is a fantastic bass player, but a shit singer, and he's too quiet in the mix " . Andy is in a world of his own on bass, and obviously has a sense of giving them what they want to hear. In my case, he fails, actually. When it comes to a bass " solo ", I don't want to hear what is on the record, I want to hear a bass solo. P.S. Mr. Big is a song, and anybody who wants to sing it is more than welcome. Lucky that not being as good as P Rodgers isn't a crime, or there would be a lot more people in jail than there are at the mo.

What can I say. I have seen Fraser - an EXCELLENT bassist - with Free and with Spedding - a briliant guitarist - with Sharks - but this does not add up to the expected total. Oh hold on, maybe these two superb instrumentalists need a decent vocalist. Or should rearrange thier numbers to not require one. Which latter would be Ok by me.

Fraser is a great bass player but he should stick to that, as his vocals are really weak, certainly in comparison to Rodgers. Good to see him with Spedding again, though.

Sorry Andy but I'm not that desperate to see an original FREE member do this song.It wasn't very good. Even worse with some old dude and some little kid. Kind of weird actually.
