@@andygillion Speaking of guitar layers, you quad tracked your earlier MPE albums and Neverafter, but double tracked the last MPE album. Have you stayed with double tracking on the more recent albums as well? I've never done quadtracking myself, but I've always wondered about if I should do it :D

@@EsaValkama I've stuck to mainly double-tracking only since my Neverafter record (that one was quad-tracked and everything before it also). I realised that for a lot of my playing style, it doesn't add a great deal more, sometimes even detracts from the nuances and takes up a lot of orchestral real-estate in the mix! But there were a couple of riffs on Exilium that I added another two layers of rhythm guitar to make it hit harder, but this is rare for me now. I think with bigger, sludgier parts it can be effective.

I used to double track even leads back in the day until I saw your studio diary about double tracking the rhythms on Seven and switched to a more normal single tracked lead style (You mentioned nuances there as well I think, and that's the reasoning I used myself when making the lead switch).

I understand the idea for this and at times I feel the tug towards wanting to do it haha, but really, that album was always supposed to be instrumental, and although I can hear ideas now, I think it tells the story without vocals and adding them would cheapen the topline melodies that are already there
