Thanks to WDR and Andy Haderer. Nice to finally see a portrait of one of my favourite big band trumpet players. Seems to be humble and focused to me. A great musician.

I can remember a concert by the WDR Big Band in the Oetkerhalle in Bielefeld. That was in the late 80s and I was 16 or 17. When Andy played I just got goose bumps. From then until today it has always been the greatest thing for me to play the trumpet in a Big Band.

Hi Andy! What a great piece! I still remember the privilege of playing/working with you and the WDR Big Band during the "JAZZPAÑA" project many years ago. I remember you as very kind and friendly during the whole process - but all of the members were great to work with. In this video, you and Leo sound great together. Congratulations!!! Warmest regards and congratulations on everything!!! - Steve

That is a delightful, informative and joyful video. Andy refers to Maynard Ferguson's ability with high notes, and clearly learned something from Maynard. You need chops like steel to play first trumpet, and he certainly has chops. Additionally, he has a refreshing approach to learning to play, and it was a delight to hear him together with his son, Leo, who clearly is destined to carry on the family musical tradition. Thank you for posting this one, and best wishes to the WDR.

I didn't know he was a lead trumpeter at Wdr big band. Because he was so good at playing solo. For some reason, it was strange that he, who plays solo so well, played solo sometimes. It's nearly impossible for a lead trumpeter to play most big band songs well while soloing. and.. The Andy I knew had good at high registers near High G, but weak high registers near Double C.(It was my mistake.) In recent years, when Andy was in the lead trumpeter position, the Wdr big band's performance was really powerful, and the best in the world. amazing. I mistakenly thought the lead trumpeter of wdr big band was Wim Both. I'm sorry to Andy.
