Andy Hurley on reviving metalcore act Racetraitor, talks politics and racism | Aggressive Tendencies

Fall Out Boy drummer Andy Hurley talks why it was the right time to revive his 1990s metalcore band Racetraitor, touching on politics, racism, slavery, the prison system, the NFL protests. Though he initially had reservations due to some members no longer being straight edge or vegan, the political climate made it important. He goes into the controversy the band faced, especially back when they were a grindcore band (before Hurley joined), concerning their more brazen messaging. Interview conducted October 25, 2017.

managed to catch them at Fluff Fest in the Czech Republic in July, it was fucking great. Last time i saw them was in a basement venue in Indy called Sitcom back in 1997 or 98, more relevant now than then!

@Midlife just because the tones and tunings are different doesn't mean much. take like a drum groove and slow it down, or a guitar riff and change the tuning. if you actually pay attention you can hear it....mostly in production stuff gets masked. they literally talk about it interviews

There are some "downvotes" because he is brainwashed left wing populist. Yes, he is a good musician but when musicians try themselves in politics sometimes it looks a little bit disgusting. They like to play a game of "fighters against racism" by justifying and not seeing racism in minorities they "defend" and idealize. For instance, none of them don't give a f...ck about white people who were attacked only because of being white by mexican or afro-american street gangs in ghetto, who are just the same racists and play "victims" when it's needed to pose, no one of leftists don't defend women who were raped in EU by those of refugees (i mean THOSE of them, not ALL of them, obviously) who are staying not for peace, but using a "refugee / muslim / minority status" to spread radical islamic movement ideology and live on welfer, no one of them does't know about an ex-muslims who were attacked by their parents and relatives for leaving this religion in poor Arab countries, but it's a pure religious fascism. By using "privelegies" and other terms they just idealizing a sort or an ethnic / religious / social group and dehumanizing others like "racists". So, in the fact we could see how people judging you a "victim" or "poor man" only because of your dark skin colour and religion tagging you as an "oppressed". It's some kind of a "left-wing", populist form of racism. And if Trump actually was a racist or a nazi, black conservatives, black republicans, hard-working asians, mexicans and other people who are not victimizing themselves were not be able to vote for him. But also people of a colour voted for him too, not only whites. Also, it's very illogically and therefore, it's very sad how can these so-called "anti racist" people "fight" with racism by dividing people who are living in US by judging, first of all because of their skin colour ("oppressed non-whites" / "priveleged whites") and say "black lives matter", banning BM gigs (like it was with Marduk when antifa banned them blaming this band in "racism") and using sometimes or wearing t-shirts w/ the soviet symbols, when this symbol historically was a tragedy and genocide, ethnic cleansing and camps for Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Romania, West Ukraine and Chezch Republic. Why are you not talking about racist terms like "snowflake", "white bitch", "white cunt", "infidel" in lyrics of arabian or black hip hop artists? Why are you not talking about "Nation of islam" and their nationalistic rheutoric? Why you don't talking about feminism and punk / metal musicians in islamic countries, when some of these people were beheaded or killed? The reality is not what this man thinking by "hating capitalism" by selling his music stuff in word wide web or posting articles about anarcho-primitivism. Too many idealization and populism in all of this political garbage. Just be yourself, the horrible fact of existing racism doesn't mean that you "(!!!)
